Jennifer Garner & Robbie Amell Joining Kevin Spacey in 'Nine Lives'

April 9, 2015

Jennifer Garner / Robbie Amell

Just after hearing that Christopher Walken would work with Kevin Spacey for the first time in the comedy Nine Lives, the cast has just gained two more members. TheWrap and Deadline have two separate reports saying that Jennifer Garner and Robbie Amell both have roles in the goofy-sounding film from director Barry Sonnenfeld that follows Spacey as a workaholic businessman looking for redemption himself after an accident leaves him trapped in the body of his family’s cat. As we've noted, this sounds plain silly, but with Europa Corp. involved, we're not sure what to expect, especially with this kind of cast aboard. Read on!

Garner has been pretty busy the past couple years with films like Dallas Buyers Club, Men Women & Children and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, but the premise for Nine Lives seems to call back to her work in films like 13 Going on 30, which is actually a pretty fantastic update of Big. Meanwhile, Robbie Amell may not be as well known as his brother Stephen Amell, who plays "Arrow" and just got booked to play Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, but he's been rising steadily with roles in The DUFF as well as CW's other DC Comics inspired series "The Flash." Again, we have no idea what kind of comedy Nine Lives is aiming to be, but count me intrigued for now.

Amell could be something, but his turn in THE FLASH has been less than revealing. Garner could use some more work.
  • When I saw it was called "Nine Lives," I honestly thought it was going to be a horror/thriller, so I got a bit excited because I've always been curious how Garner would do in one. But then I realized it's a comedy. She really needs to branch out.
