Keanu Reeves & More Find Nicolas Winding Refn's 'Neon Demon'
Towards the beginning of 2015, we learned that Elle Fanning was going to lead Neon Demon, the next film from Drive and Only God Forgives director Nicolas Winding Refn. Now the rest of the cast is filling out as Variety has word from the European Film Market in Berlin that Keanu Reeves and "Mad Men" actress Christina Hendricks (who just happens to star in Drive star Ryan Gosling's directorial debut Lost River) have joined the cast of the film about an aspiring model (Fanning) who is caught in a world of beauty and demise. The film is still trying to get a buyer in the United States, even though production begins in March.
Reeves was previously slated to work with Refn back in 2009 on a new adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but that project never came together, so it's nice to see they still found something to collaborate on. In addition, the cast will also include Abbey Lee (Drive), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), though their roles have not been specified. The film will reateam Refn with Lene Borglum, who produced Valhalla Rising and Only God Forgives for the filmmaker. Plus, the film will also see Refn's previous collaborators, editor Matthew Newman and composer Cliff Martinez in the same capacity on Neon Demon. Helping Refn behind the camera as director of photography this time will be The Grandmaster cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd.
