Kodi Smit-McPhee to Play Young Nightcrawler in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'
After Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, and Tye Sheridan were cast as young versions of Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops respectively, we didn't think X-Men: Apocalypse would have many more younger versions of familiar mutants joining up with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters from X-Men: Days of Future Past. But director Bryan Singer added one more young mutant to the mix as he revealed that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Let Me In star Kodi Smit-McPhee will play Nightcrawler, the blue-skinned, teleporting mutant from X2: X-Men United.
Here's the update that director Bryan Singer posted on Instagram:
Nightcrawler has always been a fan favorite mutant, and Singer even mentioned that he wanted to figure out how to get him into the film back in the spring of 2014. The director almost brought him into the fray earlier saying, "I was going to have Nightcrawler [in 'Days of Future Past'] and even wrote a scene, but I felt that we were forcing too many mutants into the story." In addition, Singer was also hoping to introduce Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse, and since the Cajun mutant is slated to be played by Channing Tatum, with his own film arriving on October 7th, 2016 , maybe we'll see him pop up as well. Stay tuned for more.
