Ares 3 Crew

Meet the crew of the ARES mission to Mars! From astronaut Mark Watney, played by Matt Damon, to commander Melissa Lewis, played by Jessica Chastain, to pilot Rick Martinez, played by Michael Peña, to flight surgeon Christopher Beck, played by Sebastian Stan. There are a few more, but they don't make it into this video. In promotion for Ridley Scott's The Martian movie, which looks fantastic (see the first trailer), Fox has launched another viral video teaser. The description explains: "NASA offers a declassified look at the psychological testing involved in preparing the ARES 3 crew for their journey to Mars." It's a fun little viral video, and likely another tease for another trailer coming soon. Excited for this movie. See below.

Here's the new Ares 3 viral video for Ridley Scott's The Martian, direct from the Ares Live YouTube page:

You can rewatch the first intro to the Hermes and the rest of the Ares 3 crew here + the first official trailer.

The Martian is directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, Prometheus) and written by Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods). Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) became one of the first people to walk on Mars. But after a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, Sebastian Stan and more star in the film 20th Century Fox will release in time for Thanksgiving on November 25th.

In the trailer I cringed when Matt Damon's character said "Im gonna science the hell out of this"

Trey on Aug 4, 2015

I'm confidant it will feel much more natural in the context of the film. Mark's character talks like that the entire book, so by the time that scene should come to pass it should feel natural to the character.

Ryan on Aug 4, 2015

I hope so....

Trey on Aug 4, 2015

I'm halfway through the book now (got to finish it before the movie comes out!) and this is how Mark talks, I think he said that exact line.

Lagoya on Aug 4, 2015

It is verbatim. Though, they really should not have included that in the trailer as I am sure many people shared Trey's sentiments. Watney is a bit of wanker in the books, but a wanker with advanced degrees in botany and engineering.

Make it a saga, I want more!

Alex Billington on Aug 4, 2015

Alex - Have you seen "The Oceanmaker"? It's an animated short....really impressive visually.... I saw it here: Only guys like you can get things like this out to the general public....

True dat!

Bounty 4 Zuckuss on Aug 4, 2015

One question though... Why oh why have they cast Chiwetel Ejiofor as an Indian character? Venkat Kapoor. eh?! He's black! Just as bad as casting a white man as an Indian in Short Circuit!

Lagoya on Aug 4, 2015

Yeah, I agree. Surely they wouldn't be completely egregious and have him speak with an Indian accent. If Scott wanted Ejiofor in the film so badly, surely its easier to just change the name of the character. Or better yet, cast a kick-ass Indian actor.

T. Hakeem on Aug 4, 2015

But Chiwetel is a helluva good actor.

Walter Sobcek on Aug 5, 2015

O yeah definitely! He's one of my favourite actors at the moment. But just don't really get why they'd leave themselves open to that kind of criticism. Would be infinitely easier to just alter his name, and leave the rest of his character as it was adapted from the book.

T. Hakeem on Aug 5, 2015

Oh shuddup and watch Redbelt. Enuff said.

I love that they included the Aquaman line. I had hoped it'd be in the film but oh well. I laughed out loud when he said that in the book. There was a better setup to the joke too. The cast really seems to be hitting their characters exactly how they were writteb

After the last 3 Ridley Scott movies I'm sad to say...I dont care anymore. Plus not a fan of Matt D at all. The dude is highly annoying in every movie he is in. But I like the rest of the cast a lot and I heard good things about the book. So, meaning I will of course still see it. 😉

Sascha Dikiciyan on Aug 4, 2015

I am also burned out on Scott. But this just looks like it is going to be so faithful to the awesome book, I can't help but be excited.

DAVIDPD on Aug 4, 2015

He touched me in bad places also.

Comments_Usually_Suck on Aug 5, 2015

Damn this is good. I love that they spent the extra time to shoot this little video. This is looking like the redemption we deserve for Scott's recent shit shows.

DAVIDPD on Aug 4, 2015

Doesn't a video have to, you kow, go viral before you start calling it a "viral" video. But I am looking forward to this. A movie without monsters, dinos, vampires, superheroes, robots or superhero vampire robots. Who would have thought?
