Even though we're all getting pumped about the summer movie season, in the coming months, we'll start to get a first look at the films that will arrive in theaters this fall. One of those films is Suffragette, the period drama from Brick Lane director Sarah Gavron that sees Carey Mulligan as part of the early feminist movement to get the right to vote. The film also features Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep, and a teaser trailer has just surfaced online to tie in with the real life "Voting Matters" campaign for the next major election in the United Kingdom. It's only a brief glimpse, but it looks like a solid drama to see. Watch!
Here's the brief teaser trailer for Sarah Gavron's Suffragette from Pathe UK:
Suffragette is directed by Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) and written by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady). The film tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for. Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Meryl Streep, Brendan Gleeson and Ben Whishaw also star in the film which hits limited theaters in the United States on October 23rd.
