'Napoleon Dynamite' Director Set to Stay 'Overnight at 42nd Street'
After Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink and Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer were linked to direct the Disney family comedy Overnight last year, it appears a new director will get behind the camera instead. The film, which is now called Overnight at 42nd Street, will be under the direction of Jared Hess the man who brought us Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre and Gentlemen Broncos. For those just joining us, the film is described as Home Alone in a toy store where a father and son win the chance to sleepover at an incredible toy store, but it just so happens to be on the night that some guys try to rob it.
That's a fun premise for a comedy, maybe even inspired by Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, where the toy store Duncan's Toy Chest comes into play. Variety reports at one time, Will Ferrell was going to play the father, but that was also when his Gary Sanchez production banner was producing the film, so the role is once again open as the studio tries to find the right father and son combination for the film. This could be a good move for Hess since his films that he's written himself haven't been as successful as Napoleon Dynamite. This sounds like it could be a lot of fun, but with Disney live-action films, you never know.
