Even though Captain America: Civil War is still over a year away, directors Anthony & Joe Russo have been working on the film since Captain America: The Winter Soldier debuted last April. Production is actually gearing up to begin this spring, and we already know a decent amount about the film. Despite a lack of specifics, the title tells us that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) will come to blows with Tony Stark, with Robert Downey Jr. playing a major role in the film. And we'll also see the introduction of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther as well. And now the Russo brothers confirm Scarlett Johansson is back.
In case you need the evidence, here's the news from an interview in Beijing (via Comic Book Movie):
This isn't much of a surprise, but at the same time, the end of Winter Soldier made it seem like Black Widow had her own agenda while Cap and Falcon went looking for Bucky (Sebastian Stan is also back for Civil War). But maybe whatever her plans involved, they happen in between the events of Winter Soldier and The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Or there's even a good chance that we'll see what she's been up to early on in Civil War before things start heating up between Rogers and Stark. And let's not forget that Frank Grillo will be back as the villain Crossbones as well, so that's going to create some issues.
Speaking of the issues in Civil War, there's been some curiosity about just how the Civil War will unfold. There have been seeds planted about government oversight when it comes to The Avengers, especially now that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been revealed to have been corrupted by Hydra, and that may be the cause of disagreement between Stark and Rogers. But let's not forget that in Winter Soldier, we learned that Bucky was responsible for killing Stark's parents. And we're betting that when Tony learns that, he's not going to be too thrilled with Rogers' plan to save his friend turned foe. Thoughts?
