We've seen the lives of musicians like James Brown, Ray Charles and Johnny Cash played out on the big screen in the past decade, and now one more iconic act will have his story told too. Brian Wilson was the frontman of the iconic pop rock band The Beach Boys, and now we'll see his life played out in Love & Mercy, a film that sees Paul Dano and John Cusack playing the singer at different points in his life. We go from his early days starting the iconic band to the later years of his life when Wilson struggled with mental instability and substance abuse. The film played at TIFF last year, and now a teaser trailer is here.
Here's the teaser trailer for Bill Pohlad's Love & Mercy from the film's YouTube page:
Love & Mercy is directed by Bill Polhad (producer of 12 Years a Slave and Brokeback Mountain) and written by Oren Moverman (The Messenger, Rampart). Under the visionary leadership of singer-songwriter Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys redefined the sound of American popular music in the 1960s. But their joyful harmonies and ingenious arrangements concealed Wilson’s private struggle with addiction and mental illness, and by the early seventies he had descended into drug-fueled isolation. Paul Dano and John Cusack bring Wilson to life at different stages of his career with Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti also starring. The film premiered at TIFF last year, and is slated to hit theaters this summer on June 5th. Interested?
