Peter Dinklage Joins Melissa McCarthy in 'Michelle Darnell' Comedy
Even though Melissa McCarthy was just recently confirmed as one of the new Ghostbusters in director Paul Feig's all-female reboot alongside Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, she's got another comedy that will get off the ground before then. Michelle Darnell is another comedy set up at Universal Pictures with McCarthy in the lead as a character the actress created herself. In what sounds like a spiritual sequel to the forthcoming comedy Get Hard, the film is said to follow a titan of industry sent to prison after she’s convicted of insider trading. Once released, she aims to be rebranded as America's next sweetheart.
However, the plan isn't so easy to pull off because not everyone she stepped on during her career is ready to forgive and forget. The film will be directed by McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone (seen in Bridesmaids, Identity Thief and Tammy), who also wrote the script with the actress and Steve Mallory. And now Variety reports "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage has joined the film as the primary antagonist, though specifics on his character weren't revealed. However, Universal has been dead set on getting someone "who can chew up every scene" they're in, and other candidates included Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm and Oprah Winfrey. Universal has the comedy set for release on April 8th, 2016.
