Rose Byrne is Back as Moira MacTaggert for 'X-Men: Apocalypse'
The cast of X-Men: Apocalypse just expanded the cast to include Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Alexandra Shipp as Storm. But it sounds like there will be an X-Men: First Class cast member that we missed in X-Men: Days of Future Past who will be coming back for the next chapter in the X-Men franchise. Entertainment Weekly recently sat down with writer and producer Simon Kinberg and he revealed that Rose Byrne will be back as Moira MacTaggert, a woman from the government who worked with Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) in First Class.
Kingberg says that MacTaggert will be "a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them.” There was already some nice development that was happening between MacTaggert and Xavier in First Class (something inspired by the comics) and Kinberg says, "It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one.” Perhaps there will be a bit more romance between the two this time.
As for the story of X-Men: Apocalypse, Kinberg didn't give away many specific details, but he did say that the film is seen as "is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters. They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.” He also doesn't count out the appearance of more mutants when asked about characters like Dazzler entering the mix, "We’re certainly looking at mutants that would fit into the period.” X-Men: Apocaylpse arrives May 27th, 2016.
