"Never get out of bed. Never go to the window. Never look behind the curtain." Disney has debuted the first official teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg's new movie, an adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG. We've been hearing details about this for the past few years, as it's Spielbergs next movie following this year's Bridge of Spies. Ruby Barnhill plays a young girl named Sophie who meets a Big Friendly Giant that comes out at night. This is just an early teaser meaning we don't get to see much beyond the first scenes of the movie, but it certainly looks like a Spielberg movie again. The full cast includes Rebecca Hall, Mark Rylance, Bill Hader, and Jemaine Clement, none of whom are seen this yet. But I am definitely interested. Take a look below!

Here's the first official teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg's The BFG, found direct on YouTube:

A girl named Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) encounters the Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kindhearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because unlike his peers refuses to eat boys and girls. The BFG is directed by Steven Spielberg. "In more than 40 years of making movies, I have been on the producing end of a number of films for The Walt Disney Company, but never as a director," said Spielberg, making his first kids movie for Disney. The screenplay is by Melissa Mathison (The Black Stallion, E.T., Kundun), adapted from Roald Dahl's book of the same name. Disney will release Spielberg's The BFG in theaters everywhere on July 1st, 2016 next summer. Anyone?

    • Agreed. This is one that I will try to embargo myself from any more trailers or info.

I am not interested in this one. What a disappointing trailer!
    • You thought so? I thought it was filled with wonder & anticipation. I think this was a perfect example of a what a teaser trailer for a movie should be. Not just an icon of the movie, or a name of the talent or a shadow of the giant, but actually some beautiful looking footage. But hey, that's just me...

It doesn't made a impression on me. Of course great story but i really don't get why Steven Spielberg is directing a child's book. Looked a bit like Nederland, also a disappointing movie...
        • Well Steven Speilberg did direct "Hook" which took place in Neverland...also he notably makes movies with kids in them in a major role or with a strong father figure (or lack thereof) i.e. E.T., Jurassic Park, Close Encounters, Artificial Intelligence....

There is no discussion about the fact Spielberg is the best director ever...

"Obviously my hyperbolated vanilla opinions are fact!!1 No discussion" Also it's not "a child's book" but a children's book. Ya think Dahl had no pleasure in the process of writing this book, or that it wasn't important to him, even though he's an adult? And what about his and other children's author's (C.S Lewis, Tolkien, etc) adult readership?

      So disappoint!

But is it a disappointing trailer if it's technically a teaser?!

Just a question: Doesn't this remind anyone else of the trailer for "A Monster Calls"? Right down to it ending with a giant hand reaching in and taking a child, cutting to the title card Really looking forward to both.

    Great trailer.
  • My son will be excited for this. Hope the character design is good.
This looks like they nailed it. This was a great trailer as well. I also dig the slight HARRY POTTER-ness the music had.

No demons?! No giblets?! And I didn't see a big f*cking gun ANYWHERE in this trailer! What a misleading POS!

Ok, I didn't read past the first sentece before I started playing the trailer so I was like "BFG? B...F...G...? Big...Fucking... Big..." and then I gasped as it hit me and I had 4th Grade flashbacks. EXCITE is what I'm trying to say here.
  • looks great.
