Tom Hardy Leaves 'Suicide Squad,' Jake Gyllenhaal May Step Up
Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne were all ready for the Suicide Squad in the Warner Bros. Pictures production of the DC Comics property. However, THR reports that the film has lost one of those key players with The Dark Knight Rises villain Tom Hardy dropping out of the project that will be directed by David Ayer. However, the studio isn't wasting any time finding a replacement as they already have their eyes on Jake Gyllenhaal to take the now vacant role of Rick Flagg, the leader of this group of villains forced by the government to carry out dangerous missions. Read on!
Hardy reportedly couldn't make the film work with his schedule since he's currently in production on The Revenant with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and the film will be shooting a little longer than initially planned. So Hardy wouldn't be available to shoot Suicide Squad in time for the film to meet the August 5th, 2016 release date. That's a shame since Hardy was certainly one of the biggest selling points of this film, but the cast is still fantastic, and if they can get Gyllenhaal, who worked with Ayer on End of Watch, on board, then that will be just fine. Otherwise, we'll see Tom Hardy this summer in Mad Max: Fury Road.
