Sometimes films that make the rounds on the film festival circuit just don't make it to theaters for one reason or another. There may not be appeal to a distributor to bring it to theaters, or maybe it just doesn't drum up enough buzz. In the case of Cub, we're not sure what the issue is, but the Belgian horror film from Jonas Govaerts played TIFF last year, and has already hit theaters in plenty of overseas markets. The film follows a group of young campers who end up terrorized in the woods. Sadly, it will only be hitting Blu-Ray and DVD here in the United States, but we still wanted to call your attention to the US trailer for the film that our own Jeremy Kirk has called an "envelope-pushing horror fan's dream" from Fantastic Fest. Watch!
Here's the US trailer for Jonas Govaerts's Cub from Artsploitation Films:
You can still watch the TIFF trailer for Cub right here.
Troubled 12-year-old Sam (Maurice Luijten) heads off on a summer camping trip with his Cub Scout troupe. When the highly imaginative boy claims to have seen a creature in the woods, his counselors assume that their campfire tales of a monster named Kai have gotten to him. But watching from the darkness is a real masked, feral child whose menacing snarl and quick movements go unnoticed by all except Sam. As the mocking taunts of the other boys isolate Sam further from his pack, he becomes convinced that a terrible fate awaits them all. Cub marks the directorial debut of Jonas Govaerts, who co-wrote the script with Roel Mondelaers. The Belgian horror film premiered at TIFF, and it hits Blu-Ray & DVD on August 18th.
