TV Star Jessie Usher to Play Will Smith's Son in 'Independence Day 2'

Jessie Usher

Even though Will Smith may not be showing up for Independence Day 2, that doesn't mean there won't be ties to his character in the developing sequel at 20th Century Fox. After Michael B. Jordan was previously rumored to play the son of Smith's character (or step-son if it's the same character from the first film), THR reports it will be Jessie Usher taking the role. You might not know Usher by name, but he's the star of the Starz series "Survivor's Remorse," so this promises to be quite a breakthrough role for the actor, not unlike what Independence Day did for Smith's feature film career as his first blockbuster nearly 20 years ago.

Otherwise, details on Independence Day 2 are being held pretty close to the chest. Liam Hemsworth was previously said to have an offer for a role, and he's reportedly in final talks for the role now. So with this news coming to the surfaced, maybe we'll start seeing the whole cast revealed. After all, the film is still slated for release on June 24th, 2016 so production is going to have to begin in the next few months to meet that date, which will be just a week before the real 20th anniversary of the original Independence Day. Are audiences hungry to see what happens next after two decades? We'll find out.

Why Didn't they use Jaden? He looks like Will and is really talented actor. He would have crowned this movie.
    • Brian Sleider
If you say so, I personally think he is card board.

besides 10 000 bc is every Emmerich movie fun to watch, but it will never beat the first one because the gimmick of gigantic space ships above city's is gone. But I will watch either way...

I'm glad someone is playing his son and that it is not will smiths own son playing his son in the movie. Thank God
  • Bill
His own son is terrible and always has that "Are you going to hit me?" look on his face. As far as movies go, besides the way-cool effects of Independance Day, the story was silly. I couldn't care less about a sequel... maybe a whole new non-related but similar movie?

Last payment i got was 5 thousand dollars for working 12 h on weekly basis doing a home based job. My sister's friend has a profit of 11k for months now and she works for about 20 hours /a week. I didn't beleive it at first but later i couldn't beleive how easy it was after I tried it. The sky is limit here... This is what I am doing>

Independence Day is the best alien invasion movie ever! Hopefully the sequel does it justice.

I love the photoshop job up top. He's like "yeah boy! Alien invasion! Selfie!!"

Hey, look on the bright side - at least it's not Jaden Smith. Or even worse - Willow.
