Universal Pictures Puts the Key in 'Furious 8' for April 2017 Release

April 23, 2015

Furious 8

Even though the Fast & Furious franchise lost a key part of the film series with the death of Paul Walker, they gave him a wonderful send off in Furious 7, and the film has already grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide. Previously we heard Universal already had plans to keep the franchise going, and with that kind of box office bank, there was no way they were going to let it go. So it's only fitting that the Universal Pictures panel at CinemaCon brought out Vin Diesel to announce that Furious 8 will arrive on April 14th, 2017, keeping the franchise in the spring. But the script still needs to be written, and we don't know who will direct yet either. But this is Hollywood, and release dates come first before having a quality story.

Fast and furious in space. or go home

Exactly what I was thinking... Either that or they'll be driving their cars back in time Delorean style. Seriously, where do they go from here? They've spent 7 movies just getting more and more stupid with the stakes of their stunts...

Older Vin Diesel from the future travels back to the past to warn himself of the apocalypse after he unknowingly makes a deal to race the devil around the universe for the fate of planet Earth.

O did you mean fast and furious 8 should divided into two movies?? i'm so there
      • NarcolepticNinja
Haha, nice! How about making "older Vin Diesel" be Richard B. Riddick, though! 😀
      • TheOct8pus
He would just have to go 88 mph in a Delorean

I don't if I heard this or if I was just hoping for it, but I thought FF 7 was the last one...

They should give The Rock his own spin off from this franchise. An Agent Hobbs movie would be awesome.
Bring it to NYC! More Russell. More racing. And bring back crazy Lucas Black's crazy accent.

Def hope in this one or in 9 we see both brothers as the villains.

Cars are antiquated. Why not make a movie about environmentally friendly electric cars. Instead of going on missions for the government they could do a bunch of recycling and spreading the word about how amazing Macs are

Finally! Thought i was the only one.

More people don't like it, but they aren't 16!:)
  • It would be better if Diesel played Groot instead of Torrettoe?!!!!

I believe they get the release date before the script so they can get the best date (in their opinion) secured for them. That's what pretty much every major studio does.

Oh for f**ks sakes, let it go already.

The stunts are getting more and more ridiculous with every movie. Why did they need to parachute the cars out of a plane? Or jump building to building in a car. I just looked at my step kid (who is 17) really?!! REALLY?!! Its to the point where the action is just laughable. I did like seeing the game of thrones chick in a bikini though. LOL
    • Nielsen700
      It's supposed to be ridiculous...
      • timnimbus
I get it. Its still entertaining to a point. Is Paul Walkers brother gonna be in the next one? Anyone know if they are gonna continue that character at all?
  • Nielsen700
Let the Crank guys direct it. Would be interesting.
