Bridge of Spies UK Trailer

"Every one deserves a defense, every person matters." Damn this looks so good. 20th Century Fox UK has debuted the full UK trailer for Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, starring Tom Hanks as a lawyer stuck right in the middle of the Cold War. This trailer begins the way the first US trailer ends, then rebuilds that momentum and it's fantastic. This looks really, really good - almost better than everything else coming up this fall, but then I remind myself oh ya, it is a Spielberg movie. Makes sense. The cast includes Amy Ryan, Mark Rylance, Austin Stowell & Alan Alda. I love the way this trailer is edited, showing the beginning at the end yet giving us so much more in the middle. Only three more months until the new Spielberg hits.

Here's the new official UK trailer for Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, directly from Fox's YouTube:

Bridge of Spies, originally titled St. James Place, is directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg (of Lincoln, War Horse, The Adventures of Tintin and The BFG most recently) with a script originally by Matt Charman and rewritten by Oscar-winning writing/directing duo Joel & Ethan Coen. The film follows James Donovan, an attorney who negotiated the release of downed U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers, who was held and interrogated by the KGB and imprisoned for espionage after being shot down for flying over Soviet airspace in 1960. Amy Ryan, Alan Alda and Mark Rylance also star in the DreamWorks film. Walt Disney's Touchstone Pictures will release Bridge of Spies in theaters this fall on October 16th, 2015.

not my cup of tea, I've had it with Spielberg and his personal choices the last 10 years or longer. He must go back to his roots and make damn good science fiction or action movies... I will watch it over two years on a TV channel....
    • oh Ari. Why you have to always be such a twat? 😉

it's in my genes to confront people with there own ignorance.... :)
    • Amen! That the Coen's RE-wrote (hmmm) the script makes me want to see it, plus even on Spielberg's worst day his stuff is watchable, but he needs to leave these period drama's to others. Getting tired of Hanks as well. Not to mention a lot of these movies smack of propoganda.

this is guy unbelievably rich he can make every movie he wants but still he goes back to the past for stories. Where is his 'new' close encounters of the third kind or 'new' duel?

I think Speilberg desperately wants another oscar before he retires. I think if this one wins he will be ok with making fun stuff again. Hope that robot movie gets made soon after the BFG. Would like him to finally direct Chocky as well, he bought the rights to it years ago but I haven't seen any updates in years. We must remember that Speilberg directs drama. ET, Close Encounters, Color Purple, Schindlers List, Amastad, Empire of the Sun, Always, Catch me if you Can, all dramas with historic or Sci Fi elements. I think this has the potential to be one of his greatest films especially with the Coen Brothers involved.

Interesting but stopped the trailer with a minute to go as it seemed to be showing the whole film.

this is known history though and just like Apollo 13 where we knew how it all ended the characters, dialogue, etc will carry it not the actual plot

It's about the acting. I agree.

It will be all fine technically with this one, but I don't understand why anybody needs another piece of such a movie full of doubtful charge of American fight for freedom and its 'dark' components ...

Interesting, Alex. The Coen brothers and Spielberg...who'd a thought it? Plus, the great Amy Adams. It's good to see her get these roles in a big film. My interest is what's the angle on this whole U2 Powers debacle. I was like 14 or 15 when he got shot down and a senior in high school when this spy swap was made. I remember. It was a mess. The USA threw Powers under the bus from the get-go. First they claimed it was a weather plane because they didn't know the Russians recovered the whole U2 plane and had captured Powers. Then Powers was smeared while in captivity, by us, for not destroying the plane and taking his suicide pill to avoid capture. Just google Powers and read about him. He was later fired by Lockheed for writing a book that questioned the CIA. And, oh yea, he was killed in a helicopter crash where the FHA labeled it pilot error due to misreading his fuel gage. He ran out of fuel? This experienced pilot? Can anyone say CIA? Not me...lol... Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what kind of script the Coen's fashioned on this whole affair and what Spielberg's angle and take on it are. If it's just another rah rah rah US of A thing that'll make it not worth while. I can't see that due to the Coen's and Spielberg having made the great film Munich. Oh, plus it was shot on film...so that's a plus.
    • Amy Ryan, not Amy Adams.

Thanks for the heads up. You are so right. My bad!...lol...Amy Adams is the red headed one in The Master and that superman movie. Not sure I even care for her work; certainly not like I really appreciate Amy Ryan. She was excellent on In Treatment playing a shrink. A terrific actress! In everything she does. Also, thanks for the compliment regarding my comment. Hey, you're pretty good at pointing out errors with a bit of grace and then a compliment. I like that. Thanks again on all accounts.

Wow. Stunning work from all the talent involved in the project. So freaking good.

    Nice...
  • Must see of course. I mean, heh. Its Spielberg. Any movie fan will watch this. But I really disliked the trailer editing and music IE constant percussion hits. Just annoying. Needs the Williams touch. Still, will see this on day 1.
