Therefore I Am Short Film

"I'm not here to amend my own life in some way, I've made peace with all my failures…" Get ready for a mindf*ck with this one. There's a cool short film we highly recommend watching called Therefore I Am, a sci-fi psychological thriller from the McCoubrey Brothers - the same guys who made that dark comedy The Grey Matter. The film is set around a conversation between a man and someone claiming to be himself from the future, but everything changes with every word spoken. It is a "a time travel story", but not in the way you think. It reminds me a bit of that short Interview With a Time Traveler, but even more intelligent.

Description from Vimeo: "A mysterious encounter between a man who claims to be from the future and the man that he claims is his former self. A surreal psychological thriller about loss and regret. All set within the framework of a time travel story that loosely operates in accordance to the paradox-less MWI (many-worlds interpretation) in quantum mechanics." Starring JD Taylor and Kevin Breznahan. Therefore I Am is directed by Peter and Luke McCoubrey, or The McCoubrey Brothers (website), the same filmmakers behind that dark comedy last year The Grey Matter. The film is showing at the Nitehawk Shorts Festival. Thoughts?

When you say new, you mean 5 months old right? You are making a website, not a quarterly magazine 🙂

I guess you're right. New enough this year. 🙂 I didn't see it until now though. If you find anything else cool like this, send it my way.

It's brand spanking new. We released it online publicly Monday. It was password protected on Vimeo in various rough cut forms for 5 months.

Ah, that makes more sense!

Still doesn't work. WHats to keep all the previous ones from approaching after that one. I mean in theory he keeps going back a moment earlier, to beat the last person to himself, but how does everyone else know they're not the one anymore, and to go back to the meeting place.

God you sound like an imbecile

EggRoll on Nov 7, 2015

That doesn't seem fair.

Very cool - love a good time travel story, even if it's a short one.

Dotpols on Nov 7, 2015

Awesome I'm glad you liked it, Dotpols!

Peter McCoubrey on Nov 8, 2015

Very much so - in particular liked your creative and concise take on the butterfly effect (with each incarnation looking so different). I've shot it off to a bunch of mates. Was this entered into any short film awards?

Dotpols on Nov 8, 2015

Thanks so much for sharing. It hasn't really been entered into any contests for awards, but it did receive a Vimeo Staff Pick which is type of award!
