The Lady in the Van Trailer

"Would you like to push me up the street?" Today's trailer selection is for an adaptation of a play about an elderly woman named Mary Shepherd who lived in a battered car on the driveway of the writer Alan Bennett for 15 years. Oscar winning actress Maggie Smith plays Miss Shepherd, a character she has played before on stage and on the radio, and she looks like quite a hoot. She's joined by Alex Jennings as Alan Bennett, with appearances by Dominic Cooper, James Corden, Jim Broadbent, Frances de la Tour and a few others. The film won't be released for another 8 months, so this is more of our first teaser, but it's also just a fun introduction (for those unfamiliar) to an odd story that should make for an amusing film. Enjoy.

Here's the first UK trailer for Nicholas Hytner's The Lady in the Van, from Sony's YouTube (via TMB):

A writer (Alex Jennings) forms an unexpected bond with a transient woman (Maggie Smith) living in her car that's parked in his driveway. The Lady in the Van is directed by Nicholas Hytner (of The History Boys, Center Stage, The Object of My Affection, The Crucible), adapted by Alan Bennett from his 1999 play of the same name, which was nominated at the Olivier Awards for Play of the Year. Hytner directed the original production at the Queen's Theatre in London. Maggie Smith has played Miss Shepherd twice before, in the 1999 theatrical production and in a 2009 Radio 4 adaptation, and is reprising her role again here. This film has yet to premiere at any festivals, and isn't set for release in the UK until November this year.

Seemed a sad story the real life version of the concert pianist that lived the same way and died quite recently.
