'X-Men: Apocalypse' Adds Another Mutant: Lana Condor as Jubilee
Another day, another mutant adding to the extensive line-up in X-Men: Apocalypse. Even though Jennifer Lawrence seems to be departing the X-Men franchise after this forthcoming sequel, it sounds like there will be plenty other mutants to help carry the franchise without the presence of one of its biggest stars. Director Bryan Singer made another post to Instagram today to announce that newcomer Lana Condor would be taking the role of Jubilation Lee, better known as Jubilee. The character has appeared ever so briefly in the original X-Men franchise but has never been a staple of the X-Men team. Could that change?
Here's what director Bryan Singer posted on Instagram today:
We don't know how pivotal Jubilee's role in the film will be, but if Singer felt like he should announce this casting on Instagram, she must have a pretty key role. For those who don't know, Jubilee has the power to create and control energy plasmoids, which often resemble sparkly fireworks. Katrina Florence and Kea Wong played Jubilee in previous big screen appearances, but she never used her powers, though she did wear the trademark yellow jacket.
Condor joins an intimidating cast that already includes returning cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Rose Byrne, as well as new talents to the franchise like Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Storm, Jean Grey, Cyclops and Nightcrawler respectively. Evan Peters is supposed to show up as Quicksilver as well, and Oscar Isaac takes on the role of the title villain. I'm not sure if the film can handle many more mutants, but there are rumblings of plenty of cameos, including Hugh Jackman, who may not have as big of a role as we thought. Stay tuned to see just how much bigger this mutant team can get.
