Pete's Dragon TV Spot

"Look all around you and see… Deep in the forest, there dragons will be." Oh my goodness, this looks soo wonderful. Disney has unveiled a new TV spot for David Lowery's live-action take on Pete's Dragon, and it's an extended 60-second spot. Oakes Fegley plays Pete and we actually get to hear him singing in this trailer and it's so magical it will make you smile instantly. There's also a few new shots of Elliot the dragon, but this is really just an exciting little glimpse of the movie. The full cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Karl Urban, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley, Oona Laurence, Craig Hall and Isiah Whitlock Jr. It seems Disney is very confident with the movie that Lowery made, and is happy to start showing more and more of it leading up to the release later this summer. I'm pretty damn excited to see it myself, if I may say.

Here's the newest TV spot for David Lowery's Pete's Dragon, direct from Moviefone's YouTube:

You can still watch the first official trailer for Pete's Dragon here, to see even more footage from this.

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Directed by David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints), Disney's Pete's Dragon opens in theaters on August 12th this summer. You in?

Today, they started showing a ten minute preview at Disney theme parks so yes I think they are confident. I am hoping that we get some Internet reports from people who have seen that sneak preview. Also, I am not sure if it's that song that Pete is singing (pretty sure it is) but the Lumineers sing "a key song" on the soundtrack. Disney obviously loves what Lowrey has written and directed because they've rehired him for the new live action Peter Pan. This summer has pretty much been one bomb after another. It's amazing that I am looking more forward to this movie than all the rest... Bourne is second.

Now that's how you make a trailer. I want to see this so badly now. Somehow brought back nostalgia of the original when I was about my sons age, despite being a very different look. Day one, 3D customer. With his son.

    Whimsical. Beautiful. Magical.

If they had made this film a year later, they probably would've cast Jacob Tremblay in the role of Pete.
