The Girl With All The Gifts Trailer

"She saved me, and you're still afraid of her?" Whoa! Where did this come from? Warner Bros in the UK has debuted a trailer for an adaptation of a book called The Girl With All The Gifts. The best way to describe this would be to call it a post-apocalyptic zombie movie meets the X-Men, with a young girl who has a special ability. She seems to be the best hope for the human race in a world overrun by the living dead. The movie stars Sennia Nanua, Gemma Arterton, Glenn Close and Paddy Considine. There are some fantastic shots in this trailer, and it sets up the story in a very thrilling way that makes me intrigued to find out more. I'd never heard of this before seeing the trailer, and now I'm more than interested. See below.

Here's the first UK trailer for Colm McCarthy's The Girl With All The Gifts, direct from WB's YouTube:

The Girl With All The Gifts

A scientist and a teacher living in a dystopian future embark on a journey of survival with a special young girl named Melanie. At an army base in rural England, children being studied attend school lessons daily, guarded by the ever watchful Sergeant Parks. But one little girl, Melanie, stands out from the rest. Melanie is special. She excels in the classroom, is inquisitive, imaginative and loves her favourite teacher Miss Justineau. When the base falls, Melanie escapes along with Miss Justineau, Sergeant Parks and Dr. Caldwell. Against the backdrop of a blighted Britain, Melanie must discover what she is and ultimately decide both her own future and that of the human race. Directed by English filmmaker Colm McCarthy (of Outcast, "Peaky Blinders", "Sherlock", "Doctor Who"), adapted by Mike Carey from his own novel of the same name. Opens in the UK this September, but the movie doesn't have any US release date. Thoughts?

  • Looks a bit of a Zombonus. The creepy school at the start had me wondering what kind of magic they had.
  • I can't figure out what are these gifts the girl is supposed to have. Zombie eater?

That's The Point You're not supposed to know yet, have you never seen a trailer before? Idiot
      • Thanks for your useless contribution Genius.

The less you know the better. If you enjoy zombie stories, you definitely want to see this and you should go into it with as little information as possible. Just to satisfy your curiosity, The Girls With All the Gifts is the meaning behind the name Pandora (from "Pandoras' box")
      • the point is: there is nothing in that trailer that triggers my curiosity. there is a difference between smart hints that makes you wonder and want to see more, and a collection on scenes that spread confusion in your mind.

Well said Tarek, but bad trailer doesn't necessarily make bad film. Or the other way around, as we know it. I'm slightly intrigued and hoping you to be wrong. But then again, you certainly have the point ... .
          • I too hope I'm wrong. Good movies are so rare nowadays...

Loved the book! Zombies movies are my (not so-) guilty pleasure and this story is a blast. The trailer is keeping my hopes really high for the movie. Imagine a cross between 28 days/weeks later and The Last of Us, with an ending that I enjoyed very very much.

Hey little girl, I want to be your girlfriend...
  • Miguel Hernandez
X-Men? Sorry don't see the connection

Lol, it has absolutely nothing to do with X-Men, have no idea where Alex took that from 😛
      • The wheel chair probably.
  • David Diaz
Definitely looks like a different kind of zombie film. I'm interested.

I'm looking for a zombie movie that can use all the potential there is in a such kind of narrative. Hope this will bring some of it ...
