Jakku Star Wars Fan Film

"Why'd you join?" There's tons of Star Wars fan films out there, but it's nice to see something brand new that connects directly with The Force Awakens. Jakku: First Wave is a quick, 3-minute short film made by filmmaker Benjamin Eck about three Stormtroopers about to land on Jakku (the desert planet from The Force Awakens) for the Battle of Jakku. It's a simple concept and was made on a very small budget, but it's an engaging and effective little short that provides yet another unique perspective from the Star Wars universe. The dialogue is what stands out the most, with a tiny bit of levity and a lot of emotion. Take a look.

Description from YouTube: "Jakku: First Wave is a Star Wars fan film centered around three Imperial Stormtroopers right before the battle of Jakku." The short is both written and directed by young filmmaker Benjamin Eck (follow him on Twitter @BenjaminEck), with cinematography by Andrew Brinkhaus, and music composed by Justin R. Durban. Jakku: First Wave stars Joseph Bearor, Aaron Goddard, and Tyler Wolfe; with Stormtrooper armor provided by 501st Legion members Taylor Fiore & Rudy Contreras. Fan costumes are getting so good. I saw that a few companies are selling high grade replicas. This was good.
  • Well...This was a missed opportunity to make a good parody with dialogues full of puns and witty references. I thought clone troopers were...clones. Brainwashed clones.

Well these are Stormtroopers and by the time of the OT some Stormtroopers were recruits.
      • Ok. thanks for the info.
    • This was one of the key changes in The Force Awakens, as Stormtroopers are now individual and can be recruited and so on... Different time from three prequels where the clones are first introduced.
      • It was a smart move. Being individuals with their own will offers much more compelling ways to tell stories from both sides.
        • Which is why this is such a cool short film, because this is one of those stories from the "other" side. 😉

Ok, that was enjoyable and really does make you see the whole war from a different angle. The troopers are no longer just clones marching to orders, but are now influenced by their own experiences and what they perceive as right or wrong. Fascinating, but now may ruin my experience in future movies as I think about each person's motivations vs just siding with the rebellion. Dang it....

Afraid......be very afraid going by my appalling gameplay on Jakku!! Nice shirt though and gives insight also to how the First Order could rise from the fall of the Empire.
