Briefly: Magnolia Pictures has confirmed official US release dates and details for Lars von Trier's already-controversial Nymphomaniac, the sexual biopic starring Charlotte Gainsbourg. The film is first hitting theaters in Denmark at the end of this month, leading into 2014. Magnolia says Nymphomaniac: Part 1 will open in US theaters on March 21st, 2014, hitting VOD earlier on March 6th. A month later, Part 2 will open in theaters on April 18th, 2014, also hitting VOD earlier on April 3rd. This should cause quite a stir. I expect the film community to be abuzz with Nymphomaniac chatter throughout March and April. Part 1 deals with her adolescence and young-adulthood; Part 2 tells the story of Joe's adulthood. First trailer here.

"Most people don't scream until I hit them." It's time. After all the teasing between clips and posters, the first full trailer for Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac has finally arrived online and it's every bit as absurd, intriguing, stimulating and wacky as you're expecting (or maybe not). The film will chronicle the life story of the nymphomaniac Joe, played Charlotte Gainsbourg (seen above). Along the way she meets the likes of Uma Thurman as Mrs. H, Shia LaBeouf as Jerôme, Jamie Bell as "K" and Stellan Skarsgård as Seligman. The young version of her, first introduced earlier in the summer, is played by Stacy Martin. This trailer doesn't hold back with the sexual footage so watch out. I'll admit I'm a bit more excited for this now.

Let the hype continue. Two more posters have arrived online for Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac starring Charlotte Gainsbourg as Joe. We've been featuring the teaser clips and other genius marketing art for this so far, and things keep getting better. Another new erotic poster has arrived, and another brings together most of the character posters. Commenting on the existence of a 5 1/2 hour director's cut version, producer Peter Aalbaek Jensen said one does exist "and it contains deeply explicit scenes", but "we signed right from the beginning for a 4 hour version and that’s the one we decided to release in two parts." So that's what we expect to see in theaters. The film will release in Europe starting January, but still no US dates confirmed.

Put the kids away to bed/send them to school. Make sure your boss is in his office. Then show us your best "O" face. Continuing the brilliant marketing campaign for Lars von Trier's new film Nymphomaniac, a series of character posters have arrived online to introduce us to the entire cast of this sexual adventure. What better way to introduce us than show each in a state of ecstasy - reaching climax during sex. Aside from Charlotte Gainsbourg as the main character Joe, we get to see Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin (as Young Joe), Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Jamie Bell, Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, even Udo Kier and plenty more. There's 14 of the posters in total, and damn are they something else. See below.

"I had been passing alone on horseback through a singularly dreary tract of country..." It's the end of the month, which means yet another teaser has debuted for Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac, showing us bits of each "Chapter" of the film. Today's clip features a voiceover on B&W footage of a woman walking towards a building. The title for Chapter 4 is Delirium, and the description explains why she's feeling delirious: "the nymphomaniac's father dies." Unlike the first three clips which had a much more exciting sexual feel, this one is bleak and depressing. Though it is a beautiful crane shot and another curious tease for the film.

"After all, you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs." Hah! Yes! Another one of these amusing, buzz-worthy, sexual "appetizers" for the (controversial) new Lars von Trier film Nymphomaniac, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg as a nympho. This is one of the only marketing campaigns involving clips that we make an exception for, just because I think these teases are genius. This latest tease for Chapter 3, titled "Mrs. H", features Uma Thurman (as Mrs. H) and the younger version of Gainsbourg's character Joe showing a "whoring bed" to children. Only from the mind of von Trier. "Let's go see daddy's favorite place!"

"Love is just lust with jealousy added." Ohh, how true. The next seductive clip has debuted from Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac to continue teasing the sexual adventure and its various Chapters. A month ago they unveiled the very first clip, the first footage from Nymphomaniac starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, the (controversial) new von Trier film. This time we get a glimpse at "Chapter 2: Jerôme", which introduces us to Shia LaBeouf and his slick character of Jerome (also in this NSFW photo). It shouldn't take long to figure out what's happening in this scene, giving us yet another raunchy tease for this upcoming film. Enjoy!

"How does an ordinary bag of chocolate sweets become a symbol of sexual victory?" As expected, the first teaser has arrived for Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg. We usually have a policy against "clips" of footage, but this is more of a teaser and part of the incredibly unique promo they're doing for this film. Gainsbourg isn't in this footage yet, instead it's a tease for Chapter 1: The Compleat Angler (full chapter list) of this life story about a nymphomaniac and her erotic experiences. It is an odd clip, but the perfect first little tease. And if you get uncomfortable, just think of a bag of chocolate sweeties.

File this under "WTF?" Or maybe just the "wait - is this really happening?" category. You can always expect something subversive when it comes to Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier, even though his mouth has been taped shut for two years. A press release has been sent out today highlighting the beginning of von Trier's six month marketing/publicity campaign for Nymphomaniac, which begins with a look at the "chapters" in the two-part sex drama starring Charlotte Gainsbourg. "The film speaks for itself" they say, but one part talks about how von Trier "wants to introduce a new film genre: Digressionism." He might just pull it off.

Screw the MPAA! Only for a Lars von Trier film. While the Cannes Film Festival is now underway, Lars von Trier's latest Nymphomaniac wasn't ready in time to play, but that doesn't mean they can't steal some thunder. Our friends at The Film Stage have learned that Nymphomaniac has been scheduled for a release in December in Denmark (it doesn't have a US distributor yet), confirming they're still finishing the film despite rumors it would be released the end of this month. In addition, they found the film's website which contains a rather epic/glorious promo photo of the entire cast, and von Trier (with his mouth duct-taped), standing in lewd poses - all with their clothes on. It reminds me of when Lars got his own character poster.

Forget about love. Just sex. Lots of it. While we patiently wait for a trailer or footage or any actual release details for Lars von Trier's already-controversial new film Nymphomaniac, the first teaser poster has made an appearance via IMPAwards. The teaser features nothing but simple black text and two humongous parentheses which, inspired by internet ASCII art, together form a shape that looks a lot like something else. So ASCII art can sell movies nowadays? Why not. At least they're doing something unique here and making us and our own (vivid) imaginations fill in the blank, which is why this art works so well. Take a look below!

It's official. Magnolia Pictures has secured US distribution rights to Lars von Trier's already-controversial new film Nymphomaniac, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg as exactly that. Deadline broke the news last night after being tipped off to the late night sale following screening of footage at the Berlin Film Festival. Magnolia has followed up with a full press release today, confirming that they've jumped on this well before anyone in public has seen any footage, which must mean good things already. Along with that news, came a tip that it may not make it to Cannes after all, plus a "second still" showing Gainsbourg naked with two guys.

What the? As much as I really don't think this is a very good first look at all, it's just too interesting to pass up. UK distributor Artificial Eye, via The Film Stage, has unveiled an odd first look at controversial Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier's new film Nymphomaniac. Starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, it's an epic erotic chronicle of a "self-diagnosed" nymphomaniac named Joe. This photo just shows Gainsbourg as Joe beat up in a mess in some snowy, gritty alleyway. It's likely the opening shot or taken from the first few scenes, where she's first discovered by Stellan Skarsgård, before it delves into the story of her life. Take a look!

When Danish director Lars Von Trier became persona non grata at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011 after announcing his next project would be a sexually explicit movie called Nymphomaniac, it's safe to say he got everyone's attention. By casting Antichrist star Charlotte Gainsbourg and Stellan Skarsgard in the lead roles, along with Shia LaBeouf in a supporting role in which he'll reportedly have unsimulated sex, Von Trier raised the bar even higher, and now THR reports that Kill Bill star Uma Thurman is coming along for the sexually charged ride too, making this the first time she's working with the controversial director.
