Final Watchmen Video Journal: Societal Parallels

Although I know that Watchmen is out in theaters today, it would be wrong of me not to finish this series that began a year ago. It's that time of the month and that means we've got the very last Watchmen video journal to share with all of you. MSN presents the very last behind-the-scenes video journal chronicling the development of the film. Today's video journal focuses on the various parallels between the graphic novel and our own society today, and even how, as described by Time magazine book critic Lev Grossman, it reads with the exact same devastating effect today as it did back when it was first published in 1986.

Watchmen Video Journal: Rorschach's Mask

It's that time of the month and that means we've got the latest Watchmen video journal to share with all of you. Empire presents the 11th of 12 behind-the-scenes video journals chronicling the development of the film. Today's video journal focuses on the character of Rorschach (played by Jackie Earle Haley) and his ever-changing ink blot mask that wears throughout the film. This was one of the biggest challenges for them to pull off because the ink blots are constantly changing shape. It's fascinating, as always, to watch this and see all of the little elements of design and detail coming together in such a grand way. I love these videos, because they capture the true filmmaking essence of what is the Watchmen movie.

Today's video journal focuses on the Minutemen - a group of "costumed avengers" that was formed before the events of Watchmen in 1939 and disbanded ten years later in 1949. It does a great job of explaining the overall concept of Watchmen - the idea of what if people dressed up in costumes and got into the vigilante business? For fans of Watchmen and newcomers alike, this is a great intro video.

SciFi presents the 7th of 12 behind-the-scenes video journals chronicling the development of the film. Today's video journal focuses on the one true superhero from the Watchmen universe - the blue man known as Dr. Manhattan. It's obviously a monumental task integrating a giant glowing translucent blue man into nearly ever last scene, but Zack Snyder and crew knew it was an integral part of pulling off a literal adaptation of the graphic novel. Billy Crudup stars as Jon Osterman / Dr. Manhattan and gives us an intimate look at the process of making the CGI superhero come to life on the big screen.

With each month that we get closer to seeing Watchmen, the film starts to look better and better and these journals definitely continue to show more and more. Larry Fong's cinematography and the colors of the set and everything all look fantastic. I really can't wait to see this film all put together.

It's that time of the month and that means we've got the latest Watchmen video journal to share with all of you. Yahoo presents the fifth of 12 behind-the-scenes video journals chronicling the development of the film. We're now in the second phase of promotion for Watchmen after the first teaser trailer debuted and after the San Diego Comic-Con, where this Owlship could be seen in all of its glory on the show floor. If you were impressed at the design in those photos, you'll be even more impressed seeing this thing being built and in action while they're filming. While a few Owlship scenes will be done in CGI, seeing this built as a practical set piece is quite amazing - so check it out!

Today CHUD presents the third of 12 behind-the-scenes video journals chronicling the development of the film - this time it's a short featurette on the flaming man stunt. I think Zack Snyder introduces this journal the best. "It's the 6th again. We've spent the last few blogs examining the details of making Watchmen. So, this month I thought it might be fun to take a break from all that and just set someone on fire." I'm really getting energized by the buzz that's starting to build for this movie. Maybe we will see the epic and incredible Watchmen movie we've all been dreaming of seeing. Enjoy!

Interview: The Man Behind Watchmen - Zack Snyder

Zack Snyder

This is the interview you've all been waiting to see. Zack Snyder, the man behind the cinematic version of Watchmen, who filmed what was said to be unfilmmable, not only an incredible filmmaker, but a visionary and an all-around great guy. This may only be his third feature film, but he pulled it off, he did what most thought was impossible. I've had a long history with Zack, so heading into this interview, I didn't want to waste my time on the usual questions, I wanted to instead focus on the few important things that have been on my mind since I saw Watchmen last week and since I first visited the set of Watchmen back in 2007.

New Watchmen Footage From the Scream Awards!

Zack Snyder, Malin Akerman, Carla Gugino, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan showed up premiere some brand new footage from Watchmen during the Scream Awards on Spike tonight. This is the first public footage that we've seen since the trailer premiered in front of The Dark Knight in July and in addition to the various Video Journals we've seen. They've taken a mix of some of the scenes from that first trailer, some I was shown at a special event a few weeks ago, some from the Comic-Con footage, and a few more that even I haven't seen, and put them together into one extended and fantastic new trailer. Yes - this movie is going to be amazing. It just looks better and better every single day. Drop everything and watch this!
