Paul Blart Director Steve Carr Hired for the Short Circuit Remake
This right here, this is when we know this movie is going to suck. Say what you will, but there's no giving Steve Carr the benefit of the doubt on this one. Besides directing the pile of crap known as Paul Blart: Mall Cop, his other credits include Are We Done Yet?, Rebound, Daddy Day Care, Dr. Dolittle 2, and Next Friday. Sure, the script, written by "Robot Chicken" writer Dan Milano, might not be that bad, but Carr is going to screw it up. This Short Circuit remake is going to go onto his filmography right there along with the others as yet another piece of crap. This finally confirms what we knew all along - this remake will suck!
Hitman's Xavier Gens Set to Direct Action Thriller 'The Fallout'
After previously directing Hitman and at one point being rumored to direct the new Conan movie, it looks like French filmmaker Xavier Gens' next project will actually be The Fallout, set to start shooting in February, 2010 in Eastern Europe (via ScreenDaily). The film, being produced and sold by ContentFilm, is set in a post-apocalyptic New York. Story details haven't been officially revealed yet, but it's being called "a thriller that combines elements of Assault on Precinct 13 with Lord of the Flies in a story of survival." From the mind of the guy who brought us Frontier(s), this project sounds like it'll be something very unique.
Bruckheimer & Straczynski Adapting 2K's Shattered Union
Seems like Jerry Bruckheimer is excited to adapt even more video games. Variety reports that he is set to adapt Shattered Union, published by 2K Games, and has hired screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski to write the script. In the game, states secede from the US and form their own governments that wage a civil war against each other after Washington DC is wiped out in a nuclear blast and chaos ravages the nation. Players control one of the warring group of states, like the California Commonwealth, Republic of Texas and New England Alliance, or a European peacekeeping unit sent to reunify America. Sounds like fun war action.
Watch This: Stunning Samurai Sci-Fi Trailer The Cup of Tears
I don't exactly know what's going on in this, but I must thank Quiet Earth for finding this beautiful trailer and sending it my way. Tonight I'm featuring the trailer for Gary Shore's The Cup of Tears, a gorgeous CGI hybrid samurai sci-fi movie being made in Ireland. This was shot on the Red camera in Slovenia and is simply referred to as a "visually rich modern fairytale." That's all you really need to know before watching this, just let the visuals take you in from there. It looks kind of like a stunning combination of Sin City, an anime, and Speed Racer, in a way I suppose. Really, I don't know what else to say, so just check this out!
Jason Reitman Calls Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim 'Matrix for Love'
This right here is over-hyping at its finest, but I love it, and I'm glad it's spreading like wildfire across the web. While in London to premiere his film Up in the Air, director Jason Reitman met up with director Edgar Wright, who showed him 30 minutes of his new feature Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Its been rather quiet on the Scott Pilgrim font because Wright has finished shooting and is now currently in London working on post-production and editing together the film for release next year. But that didn't stop Reitman from writing some five tweets about what he say, calling it "a game changer for Edgar and the genre." Whoa!
Finally, An Official Theatrical Sherlock Holmes Poster Appears
Finally! I say that because Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes hits theaters in two months and we haven't seen a real poster besides the character one-sheets released in June and the never-used one from ShoWest. I was hoping I'd be able to say they fixed the proportions of Robert Downey Jr's head on this new poster (via Cinematical), but I was wrong, as his head on this poster looks just as weird as it did before. Besides that though, I'm digging the style of this, especially with all the other "trinkets" along the sides. Although I'm not sure about that tagline either: "Holmes for the Holiday." Really? That's the best they could come up with?

They're back! In this episode of The Film Feed, Will, Sean, and Clark return after a hiatus of more than two months and ramp things up with three in-depth and exciting reviews, starting with Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, followed by a moral discussion about F. Gary Gray's Law Abiding Citizen, ending with a long talk about the Coen Brothers' brilliant A Serious Man. Of course, you can expect the usual spirited discussion from these guys as they cover those three films and chat about the latest Netflix Instant Watch titles and the newest theatrical releases. Be sure to tune in next week for yet another new Film Feed episode!
Woody Allen's New Film Titled 'You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger'
It's not often that movie titles make headline news, it's something that only people like Woody Allen and Michael Bay can actually pull off. And here's an example - THR reports today that the title of Woody Allen's new London-set film is You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger. The film stars Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, and Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto, seen above shooting a scene for this in the rain in London (via Zimbio). You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger revolves around different members of a family, their tangled love lives and their attempts to try to solve their problems.
Keira Knightley Reteaming with Joe Wright for My Fair Lady
Well it looks like Keira Knightley really has given up on contemporary films. The 24-year-old actress is reportedly going to star in My Fair Lady, the latest adaptation from English director Joe Wright, whose other project, Indian Summer, fell apart just last week. England's Daily Telegraph reported last Friday that they had gotten word from "a friend of the director" that Wright would be directing My Fair Lady next with Knightley starring in the read role as Eliza Doolittle. This remake has been around for a while, with Scarlett Johansson also rumored for the role, but apparently it's now in Knightley's hands with Wright on-board.
First Look: Ray Winstone in Ian Sharp's New Zealand Film 'Tracker'
Earlier this year I featured a few trailers for the film Van Diemen's Land about convicts on the run in the Australian wilderness in the early 1800's. Empire has premiered a few new photos for a different film called Tracker that's set in the New Zealand wilderness around the turn of the 20th century. Not the same, but similar ideas. Tracker stars Ray Winstone and Temuera Morrison (who played Jango Fett in the Star Wars pequels). Winstone is chasing Morrison in a "cat and mouse pursuit through the varied landscape of New Zealand." These aren't action photos, only character shots, to give you an idea of what the two look like.
Indie Trailer Sunday: Hal Holbrook in That Evening Sun Trailer
Earlier this week I was introduced to a small genre of film that I didn't know existed - Southern Gothic. If you're unsure of what exactly that means, like I was at first, just check out this trailer and you'll completely understand. Russ from SlashFilm recently pointed out this trailer for That Evening Sun that stars Hal Holbrook, Ray McKinnon, and Mia Wasikowska (who plays Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland). It looks like Hal Holbrook can still deliver an oustanding performance. I was moved by his work in Into the Wild and it looks like this will be great thanks to him as well. Anyway, I've said enough, just watch this.
Shane Black Writing a Doc Savage Script for Kurtzman/Orci
Anyone a big fan of the 1930's pulp comics character Doc Savage created by Henry W. Ralston? According to Ain't It Cool News, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang screenwriter Shane Black will be writing a Doc Savage script for Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Eagle Eye, Star Trek) to produce. Harry Knowles ran into Shane at a party recently in Austin and was told by Black that "he is preparing to write the script." Apparently a Doc Savage movie has been in development for a long time without much real progress, but with Black on-board working on a new screenplay, and with Kurtzman/Orci producing, it may actually get somewhere this time.
Might Tobe Hooper Return for More Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
Should the father return home once again? It was announced a few weeks back that Twisted Pictures, the company behind Saw, had acquired the film rights to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise from Platinum Dunes. Twisted is planning to create a new 3D film in the series that would be a contemporary reboot, throwing aside the recent two films that Platinum Dunes made and continuing on with a sequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4. Now ShockTillYouDrop is saying that the creator of the series, filmmaker Tobe Hooper, is apparently considering returning and that he's even been talking with the new owners.
Stallone is Going to Make Rocky 7 After Finishing Rambo 5
Damn you Sly Stallone! There's a story making its way around the web right now that features a few new quotes from Sylvester Stallone that say that he just announced that he'll be going back to playing Rocky Balboa yet again in Rocky 7. Apparently Stallone was talking with Tele 5 in Germany and the quotes ended up online at places like TeenSay.co.uk (via SlashFilm). We already know that Sly is now finishing up The Expendables, due for release next August, and got a greenlight from Nu Image to make Rambo 5 next year. If all this is to be believed, then he'll follow that up yet with Rocky 7, presumably in late 2010 or early 2011.
Mad Max 4: Fury Road Confirmed, Budget of $100 Million!
This is the weekend that Mad Max is making its return. Yesterday morning a rumor hit saying that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy were director George Miller's top choices to star in Mad Max 4. Later in the day, THR published a story confirming that Mad Max 4, now officially titled Fury Road, was actually already ready to go into production in Sydney and in New South Wales next year. They did not confirm any of the actors, but did mention that the budget would be close to $100 million, despite having no studio funding or backing for the project. That is some impressive indie financing. Obviously the locals rule in Australia.
