ENJOY THE SHOW
It's that time once again where we eat ourselves into a food coma resulting from turkey, various casseroles, seemingly endless pumpkin pies and the best cooking a home can offer. Thanksgiving isn't just a time for satisfying our appetite for delicious food though. It's also a time to feed your eye and mind with some great movies. This week new releases like Rise of the Guardians, Life of Pi and Red Dawn arrive, and you can still check out Skyfall everywhere, Silver Linings Playbook in limited release, plus plenty of other films. But if you just want to stay at home and enjoy an excellent movie with the family, then we've got yet another Thanksgiving feast of films now available Netflix Instant to enjoy quickly and easily. Look below!
While the rest of the world is busy dealing with July 4th as another humpday, here in the United States, it's Independence Day. Plenty of people will be quoting Bill Pullman's speech from the sci-fi blockbuster of the same name, eating ribs, hot dogs and hamburgers, blowing stuff up and getting drunk, just as the founding fathers intended. However, I think we've celebrated enough to rub our victory in the faces of those who oppressed us from across the pond. Today, I say we celebrate our British brethren for being worthy opponents, and letting us have a day off, by watching some of their recent great films on Netflix Instant.
Now is the time for families to get together and enjoy food, football, fun and hopefully films. How's that for a feast full of alliteration? Therefore, we thought now would be a good time to also bring back our Netflix Instant feature so that you and your family and friends might enjoy some good movies across all sorts of different genres. Most of the featured films you'll find below are from this year or last year and include everything from documentaries (both musical and Sundance selected) to foreign films, a British comedy, an animated take on Shakespeare for the whole family, plus even a list of some old favorites. Check them out!
Ah Netflix, who doesn't use it? Time for another infographic to kick off your day, this one via GigaOM, all about that fantastic video service. As many know, Netflix recently exploded into the digital realm, becoming the largest user of bandwidth on the internet (to distribute streaming movies), and growing subscribers substantially by launching accounts for those streaming online only. Who still gets the discs anyway? (I'm only kidding, or am I?) This infographic is based on real traffic data and is impressive when you think about just how huge Netflix has become and how it really is the primary movie-watching method for many people.
It's been awhile since our last update on the new titles in the Netflix Instant library, so this week we have some great stuff for you to check out. There's quite a few hit movies and low key praiseworthy flicks from last year that include a comedy reminiscent of John Hughes' past work, the most recent Academy Award winner for Best Animated Feature Film, a time traveling jacuzzi and more. There's also some great indie gems from years past, a couple of stellar documentaries to see, a film from a time before Steve Martin made terrible family comedies, and the whole lot of classic James Bond films. So what's in our queue this week?
It's that time of the month again! A whole slew of great new Netflix Instant titles have been dumped into the library for your viewing pleasure. We've got some great movies from last year and decades past. One of them appeared on our list of movies you may have missed from 2010 while another showed up on my list of the worst five films of last year (if you're interested, it's in honorable mentions). There's a few comedy faves, a recent remake of a certain 80's flick, a couple films which are getting or have already received the remake treatment, plus plenty more for you to sink your teeth into this time. So what's in our queue this week?
It's been about a month since we've had a decent dump into the Netflix Instant library, but we've got a whole batch of new titles for your enjoyment this week. There's definitely something for everyone, even people who like terrible movies such as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. There's a couple of ventures back into history, two great works from Baz Luhrmann, some decent flicks from 2010 and plenty oldies but goodies. As a bonus, if you're a Kevin Smith fan, you should probably check out his newest pseudo stand-up special Kevin Smith: Too Fat for 40. Otherwise, there is plenty new to enjoy. So what's in our queue this week?
It's that time again! As soon as 2010 came to an end and 2011 kicked off, a whole slew of new titles dropped onto Netflix Instant - so let's get into it. From Best Picture nominees like An Education to winners like Platoon, there's plenty for awards lovers. If you're looking for low-key indie gems you'll want to bask in the glory of Assassination of a High School President or Exam. Or maybe you'll just want to enjoy some classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey or catch up on potential 2010 Oscar nominees like Shutter Island. This time there is something for everyone and plenty to keep you entertained. So what's new in our queue?
What would your holiday break be without movies to pass the time and enjoy with your family? This week on Netflix Instant doesn't have a huge amount of variety, but there's still some great stuff. From a couple really great documentaries to one controversial faux documentary and some holiday comedies, the selection this time around isn't as plentiful as usual, but it should help keep you occupied amidst all the family meals, opening presents and holiday shopping. For an even larger selection of Netflix Instant titles, make sure you check out all of our previous installments of this special feature series. Now what's in our queue this week?
While it's most certainly the time for snow and shopping, this winter weather and busy season for the stores is reason enough to stay home and enjoy some movies curled up on the couch next to a roaring fire. That's why we're back with yet another batch of new titles that recently hit Netflix Instant. Remember, we're not looking forward to titles down the road anymore, but just letting you know what recently became available so you can watch right away. This way you're not stuck waiting for a film to arrive along with your Christmas presents. This week's latest new additions have something for everyone - so what's in our queue this week?
Since the news has been slow this past week and everyone is still on Thanksgiving vacation, we thought now might be the best time to pick out some new Netflix Instant titles for you to sink your teeth into along with some delicious turkey (leftovers). There haven't been a ton of new updates, but it seems like we have at least one pick for everyone's own tastes. There's a Best Foreign Film nominee, a sci-fi action favorite, a Sundance indie, and a feature length behind-the-scenes doc, plus even a holiday comedy. In addition, I've tossed in a few recent favorites to keep you and yours busy over the holiday weekend. So what's in our queue this week?
Looks like we unknowingly timed the return of our Netflix Instant feature pretty well since Netflix announced (via their company blog) that they're now offering a streaming only subscription service. Anybody who wants all the benefits of viewing movies via Netflix Instant, but doesn't want to deal with those pesky disc mailers can now join the club for a price. However, this new benefit comes with a bit of a downside for existing members. Since the streaming service is apparently good enough to stand on its own subscription plan, all of the other subscription plans will be given a price increase. See details on the new subscription costs below.
It's been months since our last update regarding the growing library of titles available on Netflix Instant, and for that we are dreadfully sorry. But we're back with a vengeance and a slightly different format. Before we used to highlight the forthcoming titles heading to Netflix Instant over the next week, but to make things easier, we're going to take a look back at the previous week (or some golden oldies) and let you know what's available to start watching immediately. This way you're not overflowing with eager anticipation, and we can make sure our fresh picks are available before we tell you about them. So what's in our queue this week?
Hot on the heels of the application update allowing Netflix Instant to be used on the iPhone/iPod Touch, here's a big update to let you know about the plethora of titles that will hit the library next week. The huge chunk of cinema comes courtesy of Netflix's deal with the cable channel Epix who has provided plenty of classic and recent releases for Netflix subscribers to enjoy almost anywhere. Just so everyone's aware, all of the titles listed below won't be available for streaming until September 1st, but there's so many of them we just wanted to get them out there ahead of time so you're prepared. So what's in our queue this/next week?
