Must Watch: Trailer for Our SXSW Fave The Promotion
The first trailer for Steve Conrad's indie gem The Promotion has arrived. Both Ken and I saw this at the SXSW Film Festival in March and loved it! It is easily one of the funniest movies of the year that you won't forget by the end of the day and is destined to become a cult classic. Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly star as two assistant managers at a corporate grocery store both battling for the same job - the manager of a new grocery store soon to be opened. This two hit it off perfectly as competitive businessmen and they rival the chemistry of Peter Gibbons and Bill Lumbergh in Office Space. There is so much good humor in this that I can't stress enough how important it is you watch this trailer!
First Trailer for Animated Igor Movie
The first trailer for Igor has finally debuted online after originally showing at the New York Comic Con. Igor is an animated movie starring John Cusack as the voice of Igor. In a world filled with mad scientists and evil inventions, one talented evil scientist's hunch-backed lab assistant has big dreams of becoming a mad scientist himself and winning the annual Evil Science Fair. Remember Arthur and the Invisibles? Didn't think so. Unfortunately Igor is destined to also get swept under the rug this fall after it hits theaters. It also features the voices of Steve Buscemi, Eddie Izzard, and even Jay Leno! Wait - maybe I'm wrong, maybe this will be good, but who knows - could this be the next Nightmare Before Christmas?
Worth Watching - May 7: Trailer for Noise Starring Tim Robbins
THINKFilm is releasing a new indie movie called Noise starring Tim Robbins. Also starring alongside Robbins are Bridget Moynahan and William Hurt. Get this - the movie is about a guy in New York City who can't stand car alarms so he makes it his mission to attack every car he can. He calls himself "The Rectifier" and leaves his superhero-like calling card in every car that he destroys each night. Yes, it's a radical idea, but it's got an indie touch so it might not be that bad. Well, the trailer makes it seem not that bad, but I'm not sure I'd say it really looks that good either. Take a look for yourself - seem like a fun flick to you, too?
Must Watch: Rainn Wilson's The Rocker Trailer
The first trailer for Rainn Wilson's The Rocker has debuted. "Office" fans are definitely going to enjoy this. The movie is about a drummer from a failed 80's band that joins a high school band to live his dreams of becoming a rock superstar. It stars Rainn Wilson as Robert Fishman, the drummer who joins the band. Superbad's gorgeous Emma Stone also stars and even Will Arnett has a cameo, too. I'm not sure this is going to be one of the best comedies of the summer, but I definitely think it'll be one of those better-than-the-others comedies. It also reminds me a lot of Hot Rod but with Rainn Wilson as a rockstar instead of Andy Samberg. Take a look at the badass new trailer below and let us know what you think!
Watchmen Video Journal: Costumes
Over the next 12 months we're going to see an ever-increasing amount of media related to Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen - primarily because this is the epic adaptation of one of the comic book world's greatest assets and Warner Bros wants you to know that. In addition to all of the plentiful coverage we've already shared, including the first look at the costumes, today JoBlo presents the second of 12 behind-the-scenes video journals chronicling the development of the film. Today's video journal focuses on the costumes, as spearheaded by costume designer Michael Wilkinson. If you want to be a costume designer, watch this. If you love shoes, watch this. If you just want to kill a few minutes and be impressed by the work that's going into Watchmen, watch this. It's not the best video around, but it's definitely still worth watching!
First Twilight Teaser Trailer - Freaky?
The Twilight hype is currently at crazy levels of intensity and it probably has to do with the fact that the first teaser trailer has finally hit. If you're not familiar with the film, Twilight is based off of the best-selling series of novels by Stephenie Meyer about a teenage girl who falls in love with another teenage vampire. Our writer Kevin Powers has been fruitfully covering the film so far, but now I'll be the first to say this teaser trailer doesn't look half bad. But then again, Kevin makes a great point - the whole concept is really designed for teenage girls and just watching the trailer it feels like a mix of The Covenant, Never Been Kissed, and 30 Days of Night, and not in a good way. See for yourself below…
So Indiana Jones is Even 'Gramps' in the Movie, Too!
As we near the May 22nd release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the marketing saturation is beginning to pick up and the hype continues to build. I know each and every day I get more and more excited. I'm hosting my own Indiana Jones marathon this week and will be going all out in the next few weeks in preparation for Indy's triumphant return. One aspect that so many people can't get off of their minds is how old Harrison Ford looks. He's now 65, but that doesn't mean he still can't kick ass. I stumbled across this brand new TV spot this morning and discovered that even in the movie, Shia LaBeouf calls him "gramps!" I've heard other people call him that on their own, but apparently it's actually a joke in the movie, too! Enjoy the new TV spot below.
Must Watch: Second Full Trailer for The Dark Knight!
A second full-length theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight has finally debuted online. This is the same version that was bootlegged online and shown as part of last week's Joker trailer hunt. This trailer is absolutely perfect - it shows the perfect amount of new footage to tease us beyond the first trailer and yet doesn't show us too much so as to prevent the movie from being ruined in July. I know I'm not the only one incredibly excited for The Dark Knight and I know that just about everyone is looking forward to one hell of a phenomenal theatrical experience this July. I don't know how there is any way Christopher Nolan could let us down at this point, but I'll continue to hold my breath. Without any further delay, it's time to enjoy this new trailer as we count down the days to July 18th!
Final Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Trailer!
The second and final official theatrical trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has finally launched. As we all know, Indiana Jones is returning again after 19 years with Mutt as his new sidekick. This trailer looks absolutely phenomenal - I can't even contain my excitement! Now with both Iron Man and Speed Racer out of the way, this has shot to the top of my most anticipated list. The Dark Knight can wait, right now I'm all about Indiana Jones! This is the first time for me that this movie has really felt like a real sequel to the other Indiana Jones movies. The chemistry between Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf seems to get better and better and I love all the great lines and action scenes. Fire it up and enjoy and let us know what you think below! Only 18 more days left…
Chilling New Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
At this point leading into the summer, M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening doesn't have much buzz. But all that is about to change. A very chilling new trailer has launched for the film and it definitely ramps up the excitement for Shyamalan's next. I first saw this new trailer show in front of Iron Man last night and all the sound effects, including the dead bodies and banging on the walls, are that much more heart-pounding in the theater than here online. You really need to give this a chance - Shyamalan is really going to scare the crap out of us this time, like he normally does, but with a twist (of course). I'm pretty sure Fox made a smart decision releasing this during the summer - it's going to be a very refreshing thriller compared to comedic and action flicks that otherwise crowd the next few months.
Worth Watching - May 1: The Duplass Brothers' Baghead Trailer
What is with this week and new trailers for all of my Sundance favorites?! First we had The Wackness, then my fave of the fest, The Escapist, and now we've got the trailer for Baghead! The film is a great little indie about four wanna-be actor friends who go off on a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods and encounter a freaky guy with a bag on his head. Well, it's part comedy, part horror, part drama, but overall awesome. I really had a great time with this movie - it was a very enjoyable experience that I came out of late one night at Sundance. Sony Pictures Classics really does not know how to market a movie - but I'm going to try and forget about that this time. As odd (or just plain bad) as this trailer may seem, just know that it is a great movie that I really hope everyone sees!
First Short Babylon A.D. Teaser Trailer
Yesterday we debuted the newest international poster for Babylon A.D., now today we debut the international teaser trailer. There really isn't much to this - it's quite short and doesn't show too much, but at least it's our first finished look at what we can eventually expect to see in Babylon A.D. I'm a big sci-fi nut and this movie has always reminded me of Vin Diesel's sci-fi roots in Pitch Black - one of my all-time faves. I'm really hoping Babylon A.D. will make it on my top ten of the year just because I've been following the buzz on it for over a year now. Check out the very short teaser trailer below - we can except a full one sometime this summer.
Must Watch: First Trailer for My Sundance Fave The Escapist
The Escapist is an absolutely phenomenal movie. It was my favorite film of Sundance, hands down, and has been one of the few I've been very anxious to see again. The film follows Frank Perry and his escape from an underground prison in London. I really can't say enough good things - the soundtrack in it is incredible, Brian Cox is amazing, and everything else is pretty damn perfect. The Escapist will probably still remain one of my favorites all year long and is guaranteed to end up on my best of the year list. I really don't know why this is an indie movie - it definitely feels much more like a full on studio thriller. You need to watch this trailer!
New Full Length Incredible Hulk Trailer Finally Released!
We finally have a full length trailer for Marvel's upcoming The Incredible Hulk. Definitely give this new trailer a shot - I'm certain you will probably find something you really weren't expect. Something about this new trailer and the footage I saw at the New York Comic Con has me very interested in Hulk. I've got a feeling that this could turn out great, but I'm still not 100% sure. I definitely love the fight scenes and I can only begin to imagine that if this is just a tease, how much more we'll actually get in the actual movie. How does The Incredible Hulk stack up in your line-up for this summer now that you've seen this trailer? Drop off your thoughts on this beast below…
The Joker's Defaced Dark Knight Trailer!
If you were following the Joker's trailer hunt on Monday for The Dark Knight viral, you may have heard that one winner in each of the 12 cities received an actual 35mm copy of the new trailer. Besides being a pretty damn nifty gift, given studios usually never let anyone keep any actual film prints, everyone was excited that it featured the awesome new trailer. Unfortunately we won't be able to see a high res version of that new trailer until Sunday, however something interesting was discovered on the reels - every last frame has been defaced by the Joker!
Second Wackness Trailer - Still Not a Great Trailer!
As much as I wished this new trailer looked really great to everyone who hasn't seen the movie yet, it really doesn't. We've been fighting against Sony Pictures Classics since the film was bought by them back during Sundance. The first teaser trailer was out a few weeks ago and now we have this full-length follow up trailer for the Sundance hit The Wackness. Despite how bad this may seem, you still have to hold out and understand it's a brilliant movie. At least you get to see some of the cool scenes, like when Shapiro dances on the sidewalk and the tiles light up. The least we can do is start warming you up to The Wackness through trailers like this so you'll be good to go by July anyway.
Wall-E and the Hula Hoop!
First Wall-E met a vacuum, then he met a magnet, now it's a hula hoop! I still can't resist posting these obnoxiously cute vignettes from Pixar's upcoming Wall-E and won't ever get tired of sharing them with all of you. I hope by the time we reach the release date in June, we'll have built a fancy collection of objects that Wall-E tangles with - because I know I'll still watch it and smile every day. And although it won't happen, I can at least dream that every time I post one of these, someone else out there decides to go see Wall-E this summer when they previously weren't.
Another New Indiana Jones 4 TV Spot - Unlimited Power
Although we're almost guaranteed to see a new, full trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by the end of the week (it's supposed to play in front of Iron Man), we'll kick this glorious week off with a quick little TV spot. It features a few new scenes, lots of punching, and a new set of phrases: A Mythical City, An Ancient Secret, Unlimited Power. This is really looking better and better every day and it's getting more and more nostalgic, especially since I just watched Raiders of the Lost Ark again last week. Stay tuned for a full trailer for Indiana Jones 4 later this week and a higher quality version of this TV spot as soon as we get our hands on one. Enjoy!
Worth Watching - April 27: Alan Ball's Towelhead Trailer
Towelhead is the feature film directorial debut of Alan Ball, best known as the screenwriter of American Beauty and "Six Feet Under". Based on the novel of the same name from Alicia Erian, the film is about a 13 year old Arab-American struggling with sexuality and her strict father. The film premiered at Toronto last year, where I missed it, and showed again at Sundance this year, where I missed it again, but I've heard nothing but rave reviews. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this trailer gives a great introduction and now I'm definitely much more interested. Although we're just about to start the summer, don't forget that this is an indie film.
Go Speed Racer Go Music Video!
This has got to be one of the catchiest theme songs ever! Warner Brothers has released the official music video for the newly revamped version of the Go Speed Racer Go theme song as performed by Ali Dee and the Deekompressors. It's a 3-minute video that features a lot of the greatest moments of the movie, so be warned, there are a lot of spoilers, but at least it's one of the coolest music videos you'll see. I'm hoping this will get a few of you much more excited for Speed Racer because it definitely keeps the excitement up. Check it out below!
