First Trailer for Chloe Zhao's Phenomenal Docu-Drama Film 'The Rider'

The Rider Trailer

"Sometimes dreams aren't meant to be…" Sony Classics has finally revealed the trailer for the phenomenal film The Rider, which premiered at last year's Cannes Film Festival then played at every other major film festival - Telluride, Toronto, even Sundance this January. Written and directed by Chloe Zhao, this film is a "docu-drama" hybrid, meaning it's a fictional feature film but uses real documentary elements. The star of the film, Brady Jandreau, is a real cowboy and really hurt his head in real life, and the family in the film is also his real family. The Rider is about what happens when a cowboy is forced to figure out how to live a different life. I saw this at the London Film Festival last year and totally flipped for it, especially because it made me an emotional mess by the end. It is an extraordinary, breathtaking film that will touch your heart.

New International Trailer for 'Mary Magdalene' Starring Rooney Mara

Mary Magdalene Trailer

"We want the people to rise up…" Focus Features has revealed a new international trailer for the film Mary Magdalene, directed by Garth Davis, starring Rooney Mara as the biblical figure. The film has been pulled from the 2018 calendar in the US because it's being distributed by The Weinstein Company, and all of their films have been delayed until further notice. But it's still going to be released internationally by Focus Features, which is why there's this new trailer to give it that push. Mara plays Mary, and Joaquin Phoenix plays Jesus in this retelling of the biblical story of these two. The full cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor as Peter, Tahar Rahim as Judas Iscariot, Ryan Corr as Joseph, as well as Ariane Labed. This looks very powerful, very stylish, certainly not your typical biblical film. And the two lead performances look ravishing.

Come With Me & Enjoy Another Exciting Trailer for 'Ready Player One'

Ready Player One Trailer

"I just came here to escape, but I found something much bigger than myself." Warner Bros has revealed one more exciting trailer for Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Ready Player One, the epic sci-fi adventure into the virtual world of Oasis. We've already seen two excellent trailers so far, but this one really takes the cake, probably the best of anything we've seen yet. I'm so ready for this movie, bring on the nostalgia overkill! Young actor Tye Sheridan stars as Wade Watts, known in the Oasis gaming world as "Parzival". The full cast includes Mark Rylance as the game's creator, Halliday, as well as T.J. Miller, Ben Mendelsohn, Simon Pegg, Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, Letitia Wright, and Kae Alexander. Along with this new trailer, there's a killer new poster to see. It's an homage to posters from the 80s and it's pretty much perfect.

Official US Trailer for Kaouther Ben Hania's Film 'Beauty and the Dogs'

Beauty and the Dogs Trailer

"I wish we'd met in better circumstances." Oscilloscope Labs has debuted an official US trailer for a highly acclaimed film titled Beauty and the Dogs, which premiered at last year's Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews from critics. Made by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, the film is presented as a number of various long take shots, without many cuts in total. Beauty and the Dogs tells the story of a young Tunisian woman who is raped by police officers on her way home from a party, and looks back at the events of the evening. Newcomer Mariam Al Ferjani stars, with a cast including Ghanem Zrelli, Noomen Hamda, and Mohamed Akkari. The film is a very bold, raw, unapologetic look at the abhorrent culture of victim-shaming, conservative morality, and male hypocrisy prevalent in society today (and specifically in Tunisia). I heard so many friends raving about this film at Cannes, and I'm planning on watching it as soon as I can.

Sundance Interview: 'Minding the Gap' Director Bing Liu on Doc Films

Bing Liu Interview - Sundance 2018

"Feedback screenings are essential to get out of your headspace." One of my very favorite films of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival was a documentary titled Minding the Gap, made by filmmaker Bing Liu. It won over audiences and critics, and picked up the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking at the end of the festival. Minding the Gap follows three skater kids from a small town called Rockford, Illinois as they grow up and become adults and start to realize who they really are and how they were raised. It's quite a moving, powerful, remarkably aware film about American society and masculinity, and the struggle of breaking free from the world you were raised in, and much more. I made it my mission to meet filmmaker Bing Liu, and shake his hand, and talk to him about making this film. Bing's the real deal.

Luke Evans in Trailer for Kidnapping Thriller '10x10' from Suzi Ewing

10x10 Trailer

"This is only going to end one way…" Vertical Entertainment has unveiled a trailer for a kidnapping thriller film titled 10×10, the feature directorial debut of English filmmaker Suzi Ewing. This twisty, psychological thriller is about a man who kidnaps a woman and keeps her locked up in a 10×10 room/cell, hence the title. However, the reason he's keeping her there is not for the reasons you might expect. He's trying to "extract a dark secret from her past." Luke Evans stars along with Kelly Reilly; the rest of the cast includes Olivia Chenery, Jason Maza, and Noel Clarke (who also wrote the screenplay). This looks solid, though I'm wondering if the reveal at the end is really going to be that interesting or just forgettable. Take a peek below.

First Trailer for Psychological Horror Film 'Tilt' About a Doc Filmmaker

Tilt Trailer

"I don't know, maybe it's normal…? It's not normal. I know it's not normal…!" The Orchard has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Tilt, from Iranian-American director Kasra Farahani. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, but like most Tribeca films, we've never heard of it before now. Tilt stars the young actor Joseph Cross as an unemployed documentary filmmaker whose behavior becomes increasingly erratic in the months after his wife becomes pregnant. The full cast includes Alexia Rasmussen, Jessy Hodges, C.S. Lee, and Kelvin Yu. This looks like a chilling psychological thriller, for sure. I'm not exactly sure how the pregnancy story plays into things, perhaps it is what sets off his insanity.

The Parrs are Back in New Teaser Trailer for Pixar's 'The Incredibles 2'

The Incredibles 2 Trailer

"Help me bring Supers back into the sunlight!" Disney-Pixar have released another teaser trailer for Brad Bird's superhero sequel The Incredibles 2, which we've been waiting a long time to see. This teaser was debuted during the Olympics, along with a promo clip that integrated a few Olympics sports. The first teaser didn't show much but this one actually has footage and gives us a nice introduction to the story. Brad Bird directs once again, and the plot synopsis only states that it's about Bob navigating "the day-to-day heroics of 'normal' life", allowing him time to bond with Jack-Jack, "whose superpowers are emerging—much to Dad's surprise." Craig T. Nelson is back to voice Bob, with Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sarah Vowell. There isn't a lot here, but honestly I'm loving what we do get, feels like an authentic continuation.

First Teaser Trailer for 'Uncle Drew' Basketball Movie with Kyrie Irving

Uncle Drew Teaser Trailer

"Respect your elders." Lionsgate has debuted the teaser trailer for the full-length feature version of Uncle Drew, based on the Pepsi web series about the old timer basketball pro. NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving stars as Uncle Drew, with white hair and a white mustache, a masterful ball player who is recruited to return to the court and help a kid from Harlem win back his respect (and life savings). Lil Rel Howery also stars, with a totally rockin' cast including Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, Chris Webber, Erica Ash, Lisa Leslie, with Tiffany Haddish and Nick Kroll. This basketball comedy concept, Uncle Drew, first started out as a "digital episodic series" made by Pepsi, that ran for five years, and is now being made into this movie. Most may remember the commercials that aired. Damn, does this movie look like fun.

US Trailer for 'Batman Ninja' Anime Movie Arriving on VOD This April

Batman Ninja Trailer

"I have my mind, my spirit, and all of you." Warner Bros has unveiled an official US trailer for the Japanese anime movie Batman Ninja, which re-imagines Batman as a samurai warrior who must save a town. We posted two awesome trailers for this movie late last year, and it looks seriously badass. WB also confirmed an official US release date - April 24th on VOD, then May 8th on Blu-ray/DVD for those who still need a hard copy. Batman Ninja is directed by Junpei Mizusaki with character design by Takashi Okazaki, and is about Batman defending a town in feudal Japan after being transported there by Gorilla Grodd's time displacement machine. The English voice cast includes Roger Craig Smith as Batman and Tony Hale as the Joker, plus Grey Griffin, Tara Strong, and Fred Tatasciore. That voice cast is pretty good, making this actually sound slick in English. I'm excited to see this no matter what, hope it's as awesome as it looks.

New 50th Anniversary Trailer for 'Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach'

Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach Trailer

"The experience is both transcendent and material." Grasshopper Film has debuted an official trailer for the 50th anniversary re-release of the music biopic classic Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach, first released in 1968. Directed by Danièle Huillet & Jean-Marie Straub, the film is a meticulously recreated look at composer Johann Sebastian Bach's life, as told from the perspective of his wife, Anna Magdalena Bach. It features spectacular sequences with multiple trained musicians recreating Bach's live performances, and is shot in black & white as well. Starring Gustav Leonhardt as Johann Sebastian Bach, and Christiane Lang as Anna Magdalena Bach. Grasshopper will be touring a brand new 4K restoration of the film to a few cinemas around the US coming up. If you haven't seen it, this seems like the perfect opportunity to catch it.

US Trailer for Korean Action 'Golden Slumber' from Noh Dong-seok

Golden Slumber Trailer

"You're dead if you get caught!" CJ Entertainment USA recently debuted this official US trailer for Golden Slumber, a Korean action thriller hitting US theaters later this month. There's a different Japanese film from a few years back that goes by the title Golden Slumber (a reference to the Beatles song), however this one is a Korean action film, and they're very different. From director Noh Dong-seok, Golden Slumber stars Gang Dong-won as Gun-woo, a courier who is framed for a bombing that kills a presidential candidate. He then goes on the run and must fight with all his strength to stay alive and clear his name. The film's full cast includes Kim Eui-sung, Han Hyo-joo, Kim Dae-myeung, and Kim Sung-kyun. This looks like a solid action film, with some double-crossing major twists typical of Korean cinema. I'm curious enough to watch.
