A New Horror Comedy: Infestation
With the Shaun of the Dead team's latest film, Hot Fuzz, currently out in theaters in the US, it's great to think back and see the genre that they really helped boost with Shaun of the Dead pick up a lot afterwards with some great film projects in development. There's a new one that just made a debut in the news and is worth mentioning, as it sounds like it'll have just as powerful of an impact as Shaun did. It's called Infestation, and I know you'll want to find out more.
Just check out this plot description. Described as 28 Days Later meets Shaun of the Dead, Infestation follows a slacker who awakes to find himself weak, wrapped in webbing and cocooned to the wall of his office. After realizing that the world has been taken over by giant alien insects, he wakes a ragtag group of strangers and together they fight for survival.
I can already tell if you didn't like the sound of giant alien insects invading Earth, then you can probably stop reading. But if that got a smile out of you, then good news. Christopher Marquette (seen if everything from Joan of Arcadia to Alpha Dog) has been cast as the lead and indie filmmaker Kyle Rankin is writing and directing. I've got a good feeling this may be a horror comedy that'll rank up as one of the greatest we'll ever see, but we have yet to see.
