Back in February we brought you news on a project starring Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg called The Fighter. Today the real good news comes in about this project, and it's that Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain director Darren Aronofsky himself is in talks to direct. As a recap, it's about two real-life fighters from Massachusetts, 'Irish' Micky Ward (Wahlberg) and his half-brother Dicky (Damon). The focus is on Micky's unlikely path to the world lightweight title.

The world of boxing movies just got a whole lot more exciting. I thought I loved boxing movies before, now I really can't wait to see this! Wahlberg and Damon are ready to commit to making Fighter their next movie if they like a rewrite that Paul Attanasio is doing. Filming could begin in early summer in Massachusetts. I hope he does a good job because I definitely want to see this one soon!

Ok, if this pans out as true, this immediately skyrockets to the top of my anticipation list. I think Aronofsky has shown himself to be extremely talented, especially when it comes to more abstract and ethereal work. I'm absolutely fascinated to see what he does with what will be a comparitively straight-ahead story.
