After following the Bryan Singer Mayor of Castro Street vs Superman Returns sequel filming debacle online for the past few days, some official confirmation comes out and it also includes a juicy casting announcement. First up is that Kevin Spacey will be returning as Lex Luthor again in the sequel now titled Superman: Man of Steel. The announcement also confirms that due to Spacey's busy schedule and the plans laid out by studios, Superman: Man of Steel will film after Bryan Singer completes The Mayor of Castro Street.

Despite that confirmation, like our previous news states, that does NOT mean Superman: Man of Steel is delayed. It's still aiming for a 2009 release and will start filming sometime in mid to late-2008. The screenplay for the sequel is being written again by Superman Returns screenwriter Michael Dougherty.

Spacey has also joined the film Telstar, Nick Moran's film version of Moran and James Hicks' 2005 darkly comic West End play about the flamboyant '60s record mogul Joe Meek.

please, no more Luthor. i am so sick and tired of him, yes he's awesome, but i want some action. Perhaps Darksied or brainiac would be a better villain. You know you can use these guys and still be artsy fartsy. that's what i love about the x men movies and spiderman movies, there isn't a normal human being villain. and that's why people loved them. well, liked! well actually spiderman 3 sucked! my opnion. peace!

I agree with Tiggity T. Money. No more Luther!!! Bring on Brainic and lead into the Doomsday Series. Man, I'm so sick of Luther he doesn't do anything besides look for what? Kryptonite, oh what a surprise I never would have guessed it. Superman is the greatest comic hero of all times. Stop making him so weak. Lets get some intense action sequences going, some brutal battles!

There are supposed to be two villains in the next superman movie and at least one is an alien of some kind. Just because kevin spacey signed on, doesn't mean he's a big part of the film. They left his faight open in the end of the last one and so he needs to be in this one regardless of wheather he is a villain or not.

We have had enough of Lex Luthor on Smallville and Superman Returns. The monster Doomsday would make a more action oriented story. If the story was well written and the CG done well it would make an excellent action flick. I thought Brandon Routh's portrayal of Superman quite interesting. Despite the fact that he is the most powerful being on the planet, he showed an emotional vulnerability that made him seem more human. However, I think its time to bring a little more action and emotion into the next installment. I read that Scott Parker was a possible replacement, I hope this is nothing more than a rumour, he just doesn't look manly enough, too cutesy, of course he might appeal to the girls. For those of us who have followed Superman for 50 yrs, he is a poor fit.
