Sequel Rumors: Pixar Planning Cars 2, Danny Boyle Wants 28 Months Later
A couple of sequel rumors have popped up this weekend, one from Pixar and the other from Danny Boyle. With the summer of sequels coming to an end and a rather mediocre set of movies, it's interesting to see that Hollywood is still pushing for more sequels.
First up is a blog site called JV Pixar News thats says that "a very reliable anonymous source" has told them that Cars 2 is coming up after Toy Story 3. They say that they are aiming for back-to-back sequel releases with Toy Story 3 in 2010 and Cars 2 in 2011.
Secondly is a report on Bloody Disgusting that says Danny Boyle has an idea for 28 Months Later and that he may want to direct it if he can fit it into his schedule.
Neither of these rumors seem like they're fully confident enough to go through. As for Cars 2, Pixar has continuously said that they're not in the business of making sequels, except for Toy Story (and a lot of people loved the second one). Although they are making Toy Story 3 for sure, Cars doesn't exactly seem like the right movie for a sequel. However I've seen more kids wearing Cars t-shirts than any other Pixar movie, so that may say something for the kid demographic.
As for 28 Months Later, Boyle did say that he has an idea, which means it could come together. And interestingly, I'm all for it. I loved the second one, 28 Weeks Later, more than even the first one. Hopefully if it comes together under Boyle's direction it holds up as well as the first.
I am so excited! I really hope Danny Boyle goes through with his idea. I absolutely LOVE 28 Days and weeks Later.

Cars doesn't need or deserve a sequel. It was my least loved Pixar film. As for 28.....Well the first one was better. The second was a generic action film full of holes. The only way it would be good is if Boyle did it.

I'm with you on this one Alex, 28 Weeks Later was even better than the first. It's a shame it didn't do well in the box office 🙁 On a brighter note, I once met Jeremy Renner at a restaurant and he was cool down-to-earth kind of dude. Kinda shocking when you consider stereotypical hollywood ego's these guys are lauding around.

What I would really like to see from Pixar is INCREDIBLES 2. The first INCREDIBLES is one of my favorite superhero movies ever, live-action or animated, and unlike Cars it just cries out for a continuation.

Cars is my all-time favourite film EVER (aside from Titanic), but... it doesn't seem right to make a sequel. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more of Cars. It's just that it didn't do well enough at the box office to become sequel material, and everyone keeps doubting it.

I would really love to see a 28 months later. I love horror movies and zombie movies. If they make a 28 months later they would make so much money off that!! Screw the other movies, this one if going to be the bomb if they have alot of scenes of the infected VS non-infected and the army. Box office is gay if they thought that 28 days later didnt make alot of money, they got that it mixed up with another movie. To me it should of made over a billion man.

I loved both the 28 weeks/days later films, I hope a 3rd is made, perhaps it could be bridged with dead set with perhaps a flashback from one of the survivors, I rarely go to the cinema but i would go and see 28months later, so come on Mr Boyle, pull your finger out!
