Check This Out: Early Green Lantern Movie Concept Art?!

Green Lantern Concept Art

Of all the things that could've showed up tonight, I never would've expected early concept art from Green Lantern to be the big news. We just finished featuring the Halo: Fall of Reach concept art, and now we've got new images from Green Lantern that were attached to the script in order to sell it. If you remember a couple of weeks back we posted a very brief update on Green Lantern, which mainly consisted a review of a new script written by Greg Berlanti. To be clear, these photos were part of that script, and not other drafts that have been floating around. Take a look at below and see if you can make some sense out of them.

These were drawn by illustrator Brian Murray and originally found on his website - They're apparently part of Greg Berlanti's "totally kicks ass" script, which is apparently circulating inside of Warner Brothers to be eventually directed by Berlanti, too. I can't exactly say these scenes will end up looking this way in a movie, if one ever gets made, but at least they're a start. Thoughts?

Green Lantern Concept Art

Green Lantern is a very popular DC Comics superhero. He's been embodied by various individuals, including Alan Scott and Hal Jordan. Each Green Lantern possesses a power ring that gives the user great control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it. While the ring of the Golden Age Green Lantern (Alan Scott) was magically powered, the rings worn by all subsequent Lanterns were technological creations of the Guardians of the Universe, who granted such rings to worthy candidates. These individuals made up the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps. With these images and a solid script, we many finally get to see a Green Lantern movie.

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAL JORDAN IS FINALLY GETTING THE SUPERHERO TREATMENT HE DESERVES!!!!! I just hope the script is as mired in the themes of willpower and sacrifice that the latest Hal Jordan focused Green Lantern comics are. Here's hoping!!!

Reza on Sep 4, 2008

meh, too green.

kevjohn on Sep 4, 2008

DAAAAAAAMN!!! I am so excited to see this brought to the screen. Finally, lets just hope t hey dont do a dragon ball on us!

THERBLIG on Sep 4, 2008

My fingers are crossed for this movie.. just hope that the right studio can do this project and make the green lantern a great movie... IF done right all 4 Green lanterns can be in the movie. From the Golden Age, Silver Age of Comics to the Modern Age. Like the other comments today... Its a good day to be green and hope for the Green Lantern Corps reign supreme!!!

Ryan McCarthy on Sep 4, 2008

Yeah, they better do Hal Jordan and he better be white. Sick n tired of that crap. You dont see Jack Nicholson as MLK Jr.!! Although, I would like to see something like that sometime and lets see what reaction we get. And YES, Green Lantern does compare to MLK the two!!

Hulk on Sep 4, 2008

sounds great but who's playing green lantern

Darrin on Sep 4, 2008

How does this classify as concept art? It's fucking... drawings, nothing acute or detailed at all.

DCompose on Sep 4, 2008

I agree with #7 Hulk. Green Lantern should be the white Hal Jordan. I hated when they made the white character Black in The movie; The Wild Wild West and I hated when they made The Kingpin black in The Daredevil Movie. Finally; I hate the Justice League Cartoons have The Black Green Lantern instead of The White Hal Jordan. It has nothing to do with race because my mother was Puerto Rican White and My Father was Cuban Black. The hell with political correctness. Hal Jordan is the Greatest Green Lantern and The Movie should be about him.

Ivan A. Arcaya,Sr. on Sep 4, 2008

drawings are art dumbass.

dac_fan on Sep 4, 2008

#8: You do realize that the Green Lantern in the cartoon was in the comics? The ring doesn't stay with one person forever, it can change from person to person. Still, the concept art looks great. I am hoping this movie turns out.

Chris C. on Sep 4, 2008

Ok, how is this concept art supposed to tie into the script? They're not detailed scenes, just GL posing. Even I could've drawn that.

Alfredo on Sep 4, 2008

I still see John Stewart from DCAU as the best green lantern. I know I will catch some hatred for this but whatever.

Nick on Sep 5, 2008

eh, Hal Jordan's amazing and all.....but Kyle Rayner/Ion will kick Parallax's butt neday. 😀 😀 😀 lol then again....he doesnt hav the same kickass dramatic arc as Hal so i gotta give props to Jordan for that hahaha.

Reza on Sep 5, 2008

#12Chris C. I have been reading Green Lantern since The very first Green Lantern Comic Book came out. The Greatest Green Lantern has always been Hal Jordan. The Green Lantern Ring leaves The Green Lantern when the Bearer dies. It then looks for the best replacement. Abin Sur Chose Hal Jordan not John Stewart. It was Hal Jordan that was trained by first Kilowog and then Sinestro , The Greatest Green Lantern before Hal Jordan surpassed his teacher. John Stewart was given an extra ring by Hal Jordan to protect the earth whenever Hal Jordan has to leave Sector 2814. #14 Nick No one will hate you for your opinion. I respect your opinion. My opinion is that Hal Jordan is The Greatest Green Lantern. If someone attacks you then they are the problem. You stick to your opinion. lol

Ivan A. Arcaya,Sr. on Sep 5, 2008

#16Reza Kyle Rayner couldn't beat Hal Jordan. He was just a stand in until Hal Jordan returned. Kyle Rayner is no longer Ion. Hal Jordan is The Original Green Lantern. The Guardians and most of the Green Lanterns believe he is the Greatest Green Lantern alive in the present. No other Green Lantern is thought of as highly as Hal Jordan. lol

Ivan A. Arcaya,Sr. on Sep 5, 2008

#16 Technically, Alan Scott is the original Green Lantern. Hal Jordan is just the most famous.

Chris C. on Sep 7, 2008

Cool to see that there will be a GL movie. The cool thing is that there are so many Green Lanterns and arguing about black or the white one is silly. "Bring on the hot female Green Lanterns!!!" There is so much they could do with the entire story and DC is finally expanding its universe on the big screen... so thats a good thing. I don't know how many more decades I could go only seeing batman and superman on the big screen.

DJ SID on Sep 7, 2008

#18 Alan Scott was the first magical Green Lantern from the Justice Society . Hal Jordan was the original Human Green Lantern with a power ring, The first Human Green Lantern who was a member of the Green Lantern Corp and the First Green Lantern to be a member of The Justice League of America. The planned group movie is called The Justice League not the Justice Society. So you're right about The Magical Alan Scott using the name Green Lantern First but wrong about him being the first human Green Lantern to wear the ring. None-the -less; you were correct about who had the title first. I respect your knowledge. lol

Ivan A. Arcaya,Sr. on Sep 7, 2008

DJ SID ; There is only one Green Lantern that has the background and will power to be the most famous and greatest of the Green Lanterns. Your idea of bringing in the Green Lantern Corps is a great idea. I love to see the female Green Lanterns too. However; the color issue is important. I am a half breed like Obama. If fact Obama's color skin is the same color as my skin. However; The Race issue is important. I am tired of political correctness. First; the Wild Wild West and then Daredevil. There was no Black in the starring role of The Wild Wild West and The Kingpin is white. Stop pandering to the black audiences. How about it if someone made the black soldiers in The Miracle at whatever white. The Black groups would be out in mass to protest. We can't make a movie About Al Ghaida because The Moslem Groups protest. We can't make a movie about an actor that changes his skin color to become a black soldier in Pine apple Express because it brings blacks memories of the time when actors painted their face black to make blacks look stupid. We can't make a movie about Jesus Christ that makes The Jewish Merchants look bad. Anything that minorities don't like ; we cave in to them. We are all Americans . We are not African, Spanish, Jews etc. I don't consider myself black because my father was a black Cuban. I consider myself American. So I say stop appeasing the hyphenated races and ethnic groups and if the character is white then damn it let him stay white!

Ivan A. Arcaya,Sr. on Sep 7, 2008

I think they should use a black green lantern, it would be an injustice not to have at least one black guy play a superhero. The only superhero movie I can think of where they used a black guy is spawn, and yes he is a superhero. For instance, they only seem to be using black guys as the villains in superhero movies. SO WHEN WILL THERE EVER BE A MODERN DAY AMERICAN SUPERHERO MOVIE WHERE THE SUPERHERO IS NOT WHITE? such as Asian, Hispanic, African, etc. That is the question I would like people to ask themselves. Many Caucasians portray colored people as foreigners, just the other day some white person came up to me and asked me where I'm from cause you don't look American, so i proceeded to tell her where I was from. Anyway my point is you don't half to be white to be an American, and the same should go for a superhero. IVAN: that would make you a Cuban American so be proud of both heritages...

mr. meogy on Sep 17, 2008

mr.meogy; There is no Latino Group more proud of their heritage Americans of Cuban Descent. We speak as good as our brothers from Puerto Rico. We play Cuban music, eat cuban food, read Cuban Authors, marvel at Cuban Art and practice our Cuban Culture as much as our Puerto Rican Brothers. As for African Americans ; they play reverse discrimination against Cubans especially in Miami and the rest of Florida because we come to America and become successful without blaming White Americans. In fact; when they rioted in Miami it was us there so called minority brothers who they killed and burned their stores and houses. I lost my best friend in that riot. You will find Cubans and Tejanos and Mexicans playing football. Read some of the back issues of Hispanic magazine especially their section on 'THE BEST 100 HISPANIC ATHLETES". you will find that most of the athletes are Mexican, Cuban, Central and South America. American Football which is my favorite sport you have QB Sanchez from USC. In National Football; we have Tony Romo who is American of Hispanic descent. You have Willie Colon ORT for The Pittsburgh Steelers, Luis Castillo ILB for San Diego Chargers TE Tony Gonzalez for The Kansas City Chiefs, You have Anthony Herrera RG in my favorite National Football team; The Minnesota Vikings, Roberto Garza RG Chicago Bears, Jeff Garcia QB for The Tampa Bay Buccaneers,Anthony Gonzalez WR for the Indianapolis Colts and then there is Rich Rodriquez last year The National College Champion coach with LSU and this year coach with The Michigan Wolverines. They are mainly Cuban and Mexican. Minorities are not Homogeneous. We are all different. So please don't tell me about minorities. I have lived among more minorities then you ever will. You are probably a young white Liberal that feels that we have to change the color of a man's skin to pay back for all the terrible things that you did to us. Well ; We don't need you to fight our battles for us. Hal Jordan is The Greatest Green Lantern and he is White. Kyle Rayner was half Hispanic and half white and I do not want him playing Green Lantern. Please read Rayner's ethnic background for your self. If I were an Hispanic liberal that wanted reparations for what the White Americans did to us in Cuba during The Batista Regime and how they failed to have our back in The Bay of Pigs betrayal. A betrayal by A white American President-John F. Kennedy. We lost friends in The Bay of Pigs. However; that didn't stop my father from being a US Ranger and I am a Marine Captain. Both of us had Brother Rangers and Brother Marines who thought of themselves as Americans. They were white, asian, Hispanic and Black. We are Americans who are of Cuban Heritage. lol.

Mr. Meogy: I guess you missed Steel (1997) starring Shaquille O'Neal. See

Ok so although I am UBER-STOKED about a GL movie...his outfit looks way too much like Ion's. Any fan could see that....Other than that I can't wait to find out who's playing the lead roles...

Sinestro84 on Oct 6, 2008

why not make GL , a chinese, a chinese with a yellow skin. or indian with a blue skin. and they will get their rings from pawnshop.^_^

michael on Oct 13, 2008

I'd rather see a Justice League Movie!

Tony on Oct 14, 2008

Just throwing these out there. Matt Damon as Guy Gradner or Wesley Snipes as John Stewart?

Tony on Oct 24, 2008

OOPS! I meant Gardner! But you all knew that.

Tony on Oct 24, 2008

Can Green Lantern carry his own movie? I'd rather see THE FLASH on the big screen. Green Lantern is more of a supporting player.

Tony on Oct 30, 2008

that's a crappy outfit, they should at least try to make it look like the comic book one

Joe Mama on Jan 12, 2009

Lose the Hood. Gil Kane's Costume is both classy and CLASSIC.

Oddzball on Feb 28, 2009

I've been waiting for this movie for over a decade!!!!!!! Every time a new superhero/comic book movie comes out, I think that's great, but when are they going to make a Green Lantern movie? It's about time!!!!!!

patrick on Mar 9, 2009

Here's an idea for all of you racist sheep. Green Lantern is a Corps, not just one guy. Save some bucks by using no name actors (ones who may actually LOOK the parts for once) and make ALL of the Lanterns. It is possible to please ALL of the people SOME of the time. Now for the part where you get to hate me. Hal Jordan should be the focal point of the movie. The cat ain't the 'greatest GL of all time" for nothing. Dude deserves his props.
