Danny Elfman Scoring Benicio Del Toro's The Wolf Man
Sure it may just be a simple scoring announcement, but it is some of the best news today. Harry from AICN announces that Danny Elfman has been hired to score Joe Johnston's upcoming Wolf Man movie with Benicio Del Toro. Elfman is one of everyone's favorite composers who has created the iconic sound for films like Tim Burton's Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas, Men in Black, Spider-Man, and most recently, Hellboy II. This is great news because I do think Elfman is the perfect choice for The Wolf Man. His music is always very moody and considering Wolf Man is a period piece with lots of dark, nighttime scenes, he'll set the mood perfectly. As Harry said, this "is a sad sad story… he can make us feel that."
I didn't have the chance to write anything up about the footage we saw of Wolf Man at Comic-Con back in July. I was quite surprised by the footage and thought it looked pretty damn good, but the design of the werewolf still seemed odd. Maybe I'm just not a werewolf guy, but I'm hoping this will be one of the first movies that shows me how badass werewolves can be. So far Benicio Del Toro was the perfect casting choice and now Danny Elfman was the perfect scoring choice. I just hope Joe Johnston was the perfect director, as that is yet to be seen. For now I'm excited and will remain optimistic. Are there other readers who are big werewolf fans as well? Was Elfman the perfect choice to score Wolf Man?
All they need is Werewolves of London.

Teen Wolf will always be the ultimate werewolf movie, I'm looking forward to this though.

Great choice! He's written some fantastic stuff over the years, and his work for the Batman movies is still the most memorable superhero music that isn't written by John Williams as far as I'm concerned. The only worry about this film is the transformation; I hope they let Baker do it with make-up and animatronics, or at least a combination of techniques, rather than 100% CGI.

no it was not. get some one else please. everytime he scores a film he makes it feel too unrealistic.

werewolves are unrealistic, genius.

i might be wrong here, but didn't Elfman did the score for Wanted too?

God werewolves? What the hell. People need to stop supporting these movies with horrible scripts and plot holes. (kidding).

I hope this does will so monster movies can make a comeback. I don't really understand why Universal drove the concept top the ground though before. VAN HELSING raised some intrest so hopefully this will be profitable.

Good job Ryan...alot of fans missed Danny doing the Sdtrk to "Wanted"....he has done so much and is just brilliant. From Oingo to all but 2 of Tim Burton's films. (remember he was the vox of Jack Skeleton)....and married to Bridget Fonda is not too bad either. Some say one of the reasons Spidey 3 was weak is because Elfman KNEW Rami was way off track and said no to doing the 3rd Sdtrk after creating the musical sensations in the first two Spiderman films. At least they are still friends. I mean they worked on "Army of Darkness" for God's sake! I have to say besides "Nightmare before Christmas" and "Corpse Bride"....my favorites are "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"."Goodwill Hunting" and "Men in Black".....The Simpson's theme song may be his best known work, but he won an Emmy for "Desperate Housewives". I cannot wait to hear what he does with the Wolfman. During Mars Attacks he was influnced by the orginal Day the Earth Stood Still....and his research in regards to the orginal film ( Wolfman) I am sure will be referenced and will do it justice. Can't wait for this film!

Good call D and Ryan. My hope is with this film and the Creature re-boot we can expect some more in the future. I guess we will see if in deed The Monster Squad gets a re-boot as rumored. Elfman is the man. I am sure though, Butt-ons does not like him either. Red, now funny stuff. Oingo Boingo is still some great stuff.
