Fandango's Most Anticipated Blockbusters of 2009 List
As 2008 starts to come to a close, it's time to look ahead at 2009. Fandango recently published its annual Hot List, which includes its results for the Most Anticipated Blockbusters of 2009. Similar to the MovieTickets.com list, this features a bunch of odd choices, based on a poll of 2000 visitors. But we can't forget that this list was affected heavily by current news, for example, all the news about New Moon and Catherine Hardwicke being replaced made that a popular choice. Additionally, Fandango has divided the list up via women and men, which gives us a better look at what might be the biggest movies of 2009.
Most Anticipated Blockbusters of 2009 - According to Women:
1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
2. New Moon
3. Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen
4. Angels & Demons
5. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
6. Star Trek
7. Public Enemies
8. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
9. The Lovely Bones
10. Where the Wild Things Are
Most Anticipated Blockbusters of 2009 - According to Men:
1. Star Trek
2. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
5. Terminator Salvation
7. Angels & Demons
8. Public Enemies
9. G.I. Joe
10. New Moon
Finally, some vindication in opposition to the claim that Star Trek is going to bomb! Although I know that this is only representative of a handful of moviegoers, I think both of these lists do present a very accurate representation of the most highly anticipated films for next year. I'm also very surprised to see both The Lovely Bones and Where the Wilds Things Are on this list, considering there are hardly any details for either of them out yet. Buzz usually skyrockets when we see a trailer or poster, and those two have neither yet. Either way, I can't wait to kick off 2009, because there definitely are some great movies coming up!
I thought the book The Lovely Bones was highly overrated, I have precisely no desire to see that movie. I only heard it was in progress because for some reason its release date on Rotten Tomatoes is listed as December '08.
Lady Aerin on Dec 26, 2008
James Cameron's Avatar isn't on the list, which is unfortunate. Maybe as the year progresses and we see more advertising for it, like a trailer, there will be more hype for the film.
ed_1138 on Dec 26, 2008
see this proves that ppl who have not heard of or don't know enuff about watchmen are NOT excited about the movie. im also surprised to see that the takig of pelham 123 is not up there. that movie has an all-star cast and a slight cult following from the original.. my top 5 are: 1.watchmen 2. taking of pelham 3. public enemies 4.fast and furous 5.night at the museum [cause of the surpirisnly hellarius trailer]

Wait... New Moon is coming out next year??? How cheap is Summit Entertainment??
Ajax on Dec 26, 2008
Public Enemies! YES!
OneBadAce on Dec 26, 2008
The ONLY reasonable answer to the question what the most anticipated of 2009 is, must be ENTER THE VOID.
Angelo on Dec 26, 2008
I was NOT expecting to see New Moon in the guys' list. C'mon guys... really??? Too bad Avatar's not there. Other than that and Angels & Demons, I CANNOT wait to watch the other movies in the guys' list.

new moon is on the men's list. what the hell.

G.I. Joe needs to be removed from there ASAFP!
Adam on Dec 26, 2008
Is the next year really that poor when it comes to blockbusters? No offense to the fans etc but that was one of the most lowsiest lists Ive ever seen. Harry Potter ? GI Joe ? Teenage Star Trek ? Are you kidding me.
Shige on Dec 26, 2008
"Watchmen" is mud, too.
adam on Dec 26, 2008

This chick likes the guys list better sans Harry Potter, New Moon and Angels and Demons. The main two for me are Transformers (gotta see my Saleen Mustang) and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (finally some shameless beefcake...so far it's been kinda dry...where's 300 TWO when you need beefcake!!)

Errr... AVATAR! First James Cameron film in ten years doesn't even get a mention. This "poll" just lost all credibility right off the bat. Pfff.

NEW MOON!! and yes a lot of guys like the twilight series and just fyi new moon isn't as...sappy, i guess, as twilight. Its a lot more cinematic and the italy part is gonna rock...if they cast it right. this should be interesting with the american pie director, though haha oh and summit is getting these movie out quickly because the actors can't age. Also because the fanbase is really REALLY impatient! So by the time Harry Potter is finished, Twilight will be almost completed lol 1. NEW MOON<3 11/20/08 (already counting down) 2. the unborn (CAM GIGNADET<3) 3. transformers!! 4. Harry potter 5. watchmen
katie on Dec 27, 2008

tara on Dec 27, 2008
I think this list is bullshit as I've never even heard of Public Enemies, and I know for a fact none of my other random movie watching friends have a clue what it is so how the hell can it be that anticipated if no ones ever heard of it? I just googled it and it does sound ok but gimme a break, I haven't seen any publicity, stories, news, info, posters, trailers, fucking inklings of this movie so WTH, I don't know where they pulled that from.

HURR I AM TRENDY MAN TWILIGHT SUX HURR
A MANLY MAN on Dec 27, 2008
Since the Men's list contains G.I. Joe (remember it has Marlon Wayans), I think New Moon fits perfectly under it as no man wants to see either film.. As for Watchmen? Maybe they are anticipating a 2010 release, if Fox has anything to say about it.
L on Dec 27, 2008
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is my number one most anticipated movie for 2009! I am so freaking excited! After that, I'm not even really sure about any other movies coming out next year. I think that movie Push looks good, although it really reminds me of the t.v. show Heroes. Umm... I think 17 Again looks like a movie I might want to see... other than that, I don't really know much about any 2009 movies. Oh, and am I the only girl on here that isn't freaking out over New Moon? How did it even make the list for guys???
Sam on Dec 27, 2008
I'm an 18 year old girl. I wanna see 1) Harry Potter 2) New Moon (Hopefully it won't suck as much as Twilight did. Now that there's a new director, I have hope.) 3) Transformers 4) X-Men Origins: Wolverine 5) Watchmen (Just cause they're hyping it ridiculously.) I've never heard of the other movies on the woman's list except for the book, Angels and Demons, which I know nothing about. My grandmother read it a while back. I have no idea why New Moon would be on the guy's list UNLESS it's cause every guy will be taking his girlfriend/wife to go see it.
Briann on Dec 27, 2008
Adding to my last post: Disney's newest 2D animated feature: The Princess and the Frog. 🙂 It's ganna be big for little kids, and for me so 😛
Brianna on Dec 27, 2008
I think I have a tie for first on my list between Star Trek and Watchmen. Watchmen is one of the best and most complete stories I have ever read/seen and that Star Trek trailer was incredible. I think I would follow that up with Avatar, the plot doesn't call out to me, but the use of 3D in the hands of an excellent filmmaker like James Cameron excites me to no end. Then I think I would go with Wolverine, Terminator, and Transformers, in that order. And for those who just scan for lists: 1. Star Trek 1. Watchmen 3. Avatar 4. Wolverine 5.Terminator 6. Transformers

My most anticapted 1.New Moon 2.Harry Potter 3.TransFormers:Revenge of the Fallen 4.Watchmen 5.Xmen:Origins You might see me on the big screen one day.

xMrs-Jasper-Halex on Dec 28, 2008
It's an interesting perspective to see two lists from men and women. Somehow, I don't quite understand how Harry Potter is listed higher than X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Terminator Salvation, Watchmen and G.I. Joe for the dudes. I mean, c'mon dudes?
Yowazzup on Dec 29, 2008
Watchmen should be number 1. When people see it however, I am certain they will realize which one they should've chosen.
Conrad on Dec 29, 2008
wow, no Avatar or Watchmen, but GI Joe is on there...I'm not gonna take this list too seriously.

Look ppl. Twilight was an intro to how they fell in love New Moon isn't going to be sappy at all (until Edward and Bella get back together but still what he says to her in the books are the most memorable from the whole series [chapter titled The Truth])....I mean werewolves, evil red eyed vampires and not just a few of em...I am surprised its on the guys list but who wouldn't be looking forward to it...I know I've been counting down the days.... Twilight the movie could've been better but now that there's a new director for New Moon hopefully its awesome...cause the books def are... 1.New Moon 2.Avatar (not to be mistaken with Avatar The Last Air Bender) 3.Harry Potter 4.Transformers 2 5.Watchmen 6.The Unborn (Cam I love ya)

It appears from these lists of most anticipated movies of 2009 that - Men prefer action packed films where as Women prefer those that have more fantasy content. Two things are common to both though: Huge Budget and tremendous Creativity involved in making such kind of high profile movies. My personal favorite: 'Star Trek', as i always believe there is life on other planets, besides Earth!

OMG! I definatly can't wait for either New Moon or Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. New Moon just barely beats Harry Potter for first place though. Here's my top five list from my most anticipated down. 1. New Moon (YEAH it's finally coming out!) 2. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (been following the series since I read the first book back in the year 2002) 3. Night at the Museum 2 Battle of the Smithsonians 4. Seventeen Again 5. Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen (I've heard it's not that good but I still want to see it) There are still more movies I can't wait to see this year but these are my top five anticipated ones.
