The first official trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman's rock opera titled Repo! The Genetic Opera has finally arrived. The last time we showed you anything from this it was a teaser in October last year. I must admit that this new trailer looks awesome, just plain badass. I've got a good feeling that they've spent the last 8 months beefing this thing up with some visual effects and incredible music and now it looks top notch. I love the comic book style imagery and dark operatic feel to it. I am really, really liking this so far and I do think it might be an instant cult classic. I'm just genuinely excited to see this and I'm still holding my breath hoping it's not pure crap. With this trailer, Repo! The Genetic Opera finally looks awesome!

Umm... the movie part looks cool. I just can't get with films that break out into song throughout. In light of Johnny Depps Barber monstrocity... I won't be checking this one out. That's just me though...

... Was that Amy Lee from Evanescence? (Joking!) Two words: Paris. Hilton. Enough said.

C-Young, thats the point of a rock opera... and Sweeney Todd is a Broadway Musical.

I am surprised no one has made a comparison, if only in general, to Rocky Horror...this looks just perverted enough to be the next generation answer to it...looks pretty darned good to me...

Anthony Stewart Head is an amazing actor and singer! I'm in! I agree with moldybread, it seems a little Rocky Horror 2.0. I can't wait!

@moldybread - I agree It looks like a worthy successor to Rocky Horror Picture Show. And Stephanie is right, Anthony Stewart Head has an awesome singing voice. I just pray Paris won't sing and will be killed early.

This looks AWFUL! I can teel you right now this will be a bigger flop then THE HOTTIE & THE NOTTIE. I can't see a very large audience for this. Maybe a Rocky Horror Picture midnight show thing but others it looks very cheap and just odd.

I love anything that breaks out in song and the new original movie musicals have gotten my attention...everyone remembers Moulin Rouge and I thought it was very well done and Across the Universe was an interesting venture with Beatles songs...I think this could easily do well with DVD sales but I dont know about in theaters...I am definately going to see this in the theater...there is no experience like a movie musical or rock opera in the theater with surround sound and total darkness...

Ryan, tell your crack dealer to stop selling you bad stuff lol. Did we even watch the same clip? This is one of the freshest looking films Ive seen in the last 5 years. Something beyond the reboots, remakes and retreads of late. What an eclectic cast and the producion looks stunning. The premise is nothing short of chilling and this may just be one of the most talked about films of the year.

As a long time Industrial music fan I'm just hyped about seeing Nivek Ogre on screen. And the fact that I really didn't recognize Paris until her name flashed on the screen gives me some hope that they were able to hide her personality (or lack thereof) as well.

Yeah, that looks terrible. Maybe a $1 Redbox rental. Maybe. I totally dig Sarah Brightman, though. Hrm.

Ugh, look at the other trailer on their website: http://www.repo-opera.com/flash_home.html Seriously, why does this stuff get made? Doesn't anyone on the set ask "Guys.. why?"

I don't know maybe the story is good but the video quality is like movie made for TV broadcast not cinema.

I agree with *15 and *24, it's about time we had something different from all the same movies that seem to be coming out. Over the past few years, nothing new has really come out and gotten people's attention, this movie on the other hand I'm sure, as you can see from the trailer will have a great effect on people.

Wow! Lot's going on with this movie. Horror, rock, opera, comic...Hilton. I don't know. Only thing missing is Marilyn Manson and Alice Cooper. I see alot of high school drama thespians lllooovvviiinnngggg this! Look forward to double showings of this and Rocky Horror at your local theaters. As for originality, c'mon Moulan Rouge, Rocky Horror and so on. This would probably have been better praised if it were on stage.

Just thought I'd toss this out there. It's directly from IMDB. "Darren Lynn Bousman originally refused to hold an audition for Paris Hilton. He did not think she would be capable, and feared media backlash or accusations of stunt casting. When he finally caved in, Paris came to the audition dressed "perfectly for the part," and "rocked" the sound booth audition. After the audition, he was convinced she should play the role." Those already noticing Paris and crediting the movie as garbage may be speaking too early. Who knows.

WTF? Another movie with Paris Hilton? Oh geez. Sex tape, House of Wax ... Hilton sucks & too see her killed in the remake of "House of Wax" was worth watching that movie alone. This flick looks good & if they kill her in this as well, it might be well worth it as well. 🙂

Actually, this is very much like Rocky Horror in that it started as an actual "nightclub" entertainment musical. But aside from that, the movie looks amazing. And who doesn't love some Giles?

It was also staged off-Broadway at one point.

i think this is going to be a hard rock version of across the universe, its going to have a love story and all, but it think its going to have some really Epic songs, this looks like a one of a kind original film and to me those are usually the ground breaking ones

Still must say this looks like one of the most interesting ideas out there and its a down right shame Lionsgate is trying to dump it even worse than the way the screwed over Midnight Meat Train. If you want this film in a theater even remotely near you, its gonna take a lot. It takes people like Alex Billington here to bring it the attention it deserves. Theres a grassroots effort for this film on the Repo message board accessed through http://www.repo-opera.com where many fans like myself are doing all we can. Check it out!

For those Paris haters (of which I am one, to be honest), go to the website (linked in the comment above mine) and watch the Zydrate Anatomy film clip. Paris is the one with the two bodyguards that comes in about 30-45 seconds into the clip. At least judge her by her ability to play the role, I don't particularly like Robert Downey jr. but he did a great job as Tony Stark. She doesn't wow me (unlike a lot of the rest of the cast), but I do think she does a passibly decent job. Much better than I was expecting to be honest. Of course Graverobber totally steals the scene, as should be expected from the co-creator that's been playing the role as long as its been aroud.

Im Mike (commentor #15) and I've now seen the film 3 times at Austins Fantastic Fest. Visionary, breathtaking, and extraordinary are the closest I can get to trying to explain just how different this surreal and infectious musical movie is. The visuals and cinematography are striking, and with this film Darren Bousman rises from director to auteur in my opinion. The performances (while those from Hilton, Brightman, and Ogre are all too brief for me in some regards, especially Brightman as she just draws you into her character in every scene she has) are astounding, Alexa Vega has a voice thats at once both smooth and edgy, Anthony Stewart head plays her father/Repo Man with a duality thats comedically fiendish, and Paul Sorvinos powerful vocals enhances the depth of his villianous character to superb effect. That said, it is not for everyone, but thats what makes it unique. Its a horror/science fiction/musical experience with what has to be the most oddest ensemble cast assembled in years tinged with black comedy and a fierce heart (no pun intended). Its a shame that Lionsgate Films still doesnt see this as what 3 different singing, laughing, and clapping audiences did, a darker, more dystopian Rocky Horror Picure Show with a truly touching climax. If you want this in a theater near you and want to support original, avant garde cinema that breaks the mold go to the movies official site and join in the grassroots effort to help this film.
