Repo! The Genetic Opera Trailer

The first official trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman's rock opera titled Repo! The Genetic Opera has finally arrived. The last time we showed you anything from this it was a teaser in October last year. I must admit that this new trailer looks awesome, just plain badass. I've got a good feeling that they've spent the last 8 months beefing this thing up with some visual effects and incredible music and now it looks top notch. I love the comic book style imagery and dark operatic feel to it. I am really, really liking this so far and I do think it might be an instant cult classic. I'm just genuinely excited to see this and I'm still holding my breath hoping it's not pure crap. With this trailer, Repo! The Genetic Opera finally looks awesome!

Paris Hilton Alexa Vega Im sorry what ?

Shige on Jun 27, 2008

Umm... the movie part looks cool. I just can't get with films that break out into song throughout. In light of Johnny Depps Barber monstrocity... I won't be checking this one out. That's just me though...

C-Young on Jun 27, 2008

This movie looks so damn cool. Paris Hilton? What's going on? Wow!

DCompose on Jun 27, 2008

... Was that Amy Lee from Evanescence? (Joking!) Two words: Paris. Hilton. Enough said.

And ... Cut! on Jun 27, 2008

C-Young, thats the point of a rock opera... and Sweeney Todd is a Broadway Musical.

nate on Jun 27, 2008

I am kinda excited about this

James on Jun 27, 2008

Holy SHIT! That's Anthony Stewart Head!

Quicksilver on Jun 27, 2008

i actually forgot about this film.looks alright.

Darrin on Jun 27, 2008

OMG! Giles is in a movie! As a main character! Sweet! Okay that movie looks awesome. I'll go see it.

JeepFu on Jun 27, 2008

I am surprised no one has made a comparison, if only in general, to Rocky Horror...this looks just perverted enough to be the next generation answer to it...looks pretty darned good to me...

moldybread on Jun 27, 2008

Anthony Stewart Head is an amazing actor and singer! I'm in! I agree with moldybread, it seems a little Rocky Horror 2.0. I can't wait!

Stephanie on Jun 27, 2008

@moldybread - I agree It looks like a worthy successor to Rocky Horror Picture Show. And Stephanie is right, Anthony Stewart Head has an awesome singing voice. I just pray Paris won't sing and will be killed early.

Nunya on Jun 27, 2008

This looks AWFUL! I can teel you right now this will be a bigger flop then THE HOTTIE & THE NOTTIE. I can't see a very large audience for this. Maybe a Rocky Horror Picture midnight show thing but others it looks very cheap and just odd.

Ryan on Jun 27, 2008

I love anything that breaks out in song and the new original movie musicals have gotten my attention...everyone remembers Moulin Rouge and I thought it was very well done and Across the Universe was an interesting venture with Beatles songs...I think this could easily do well with DVD sales but I dont know about in theaters...I am definately going to see this in the theater...there is no experience like a movie musical or rock opera in the theater with surround sound and total darkness...

Maxx on Jun 27, 2008

Ryan, tell your crack dealer to stop selling you bad stuff lol. Did we even watch the same clip? This is one of the freshest looking films Ive seen in the last 5 years. Something beyond the reboots, remakes and retreads of late. What an eclectic cast and the producion looks stunning. The premise is nothing short of chilling and this may just be one of the most talked about films of the year.

Mike on Jun 28, 2008

God awful.

Brad on Jun 28, 2008

As a long time Industrial music fan I'm just hyped about seeing Nivek Ogre on screen. And the fact that I really didn't recognize Paris until her name flashed on the screen gives me some hope that they were able to hide her personality (or lack thereof) as well.

jason_md2020 on Jun 28, 2008

Yeah, that looks terrible. Maybe a $1 Redbox rental. Maybe. I totally dig Sarah Brightman, though. Hrm.

Nicholas on Jun 28, 2008

Ugh, look at the other trailer on their website: Seriously, why does this stuff get made? Doesn't anyone on the set ask "Guys.. why?"

Nicholas on Jun 28, 2008

streaming this maybe.....................Dont' watch anything with Paris Hilton

SHANE D on Jun 28, 2008

OMFG this looks amazingly horrible! Should go straight to video.

Tirrell on Jun 28, 2008

I dont know. Looks weird but Paris Hilton isnt a selling point. Giles is awesome though. Cyoung.....Depp was awesome in Sweeney Todd. Get some culture.

Heckle on Jun 28, 2008

I don't know maybe the story is good but the video quality is like movie made for TV broadcast not cinema.

d_c on Jun 30, 2008

I agree with #15! Everyone complains about reboots and remakes and un-original material all day long... But when something original finally comes along, they don't like it either! Pick a side!! Repo isn't going to be for everyone. The reason Sweeney Todd wasn't a huge box office success is because it's hard to get people in to see dark, horrific musicals. This is a movie that horror film fans and rock music fans might enjoy, but the audience won't be much bigger than that... If you think it looks okay, give it a chance, otherwise, just realize it's not for you. Just like Kitt Kitridge is also not for you... But you don't complain, do you??

Alex Billington on Jul 2, 2008

I agree with *15 and *24, it's about time we had something different from all the same movies that seem to be coming out. Over the past few years, nothing new has really come out and gotten people's attention, this movie on the other hand I'm sure, as you can see from the trailer will have a great effect on people.

minadrake on Jul 3, 2008

Huh. I'm definetly intrigued, but i'm not sure if it's in a good way or not. Seriously, what was that? lol

C.M Lamson on Jul 5, 2008

Wow! Lot's going on with this movie. Horror, rock, opera, comic...Hilton. I don't know. Only thing missing is Marilyn Manson and Alice Cooper. I see alot of high school drama thespians lllooovvviiinnngggg this! Look forward to double showings of this and Rocky Horror at your local theaters. As for originality, c'mon Moulan Rouge, Rocky Horror and so on. This would probably have been better praised if it were on stage.

Dave V. on Jul 7, 2008

i cant wait for this!!! something different, something with some awesome vocals, looks beautiful despite the poor video quality. its like the crow set to music ( obviously a diff. plot tho.)

sarah on Jul 11, 2008

Just thought I'd toss this out there. It's directly from IMDB. "Darren Lynn Bousman originally refused to hold an audition for Paris Hilton. He did not think she would be capable, and feared media backlash or accusations of stunt casting. When he finally caved in, Paris came to the audition dressed "perfectly for the part," and "rocked" the sound booth audition. After the audition, he was convinced she should play the role." Those already noticing Paris and crediting the movie as garbage may be speaking too early. Who knows.

Ryan on Jul 11, 2008

WTF? Another movie with Paris Hilton? Oh geez. Sex tape, House of Wax ... Hilton sucks & too see her killed in the remake of "House of Wax" was worth watching that movie alone. This flick looks good & if they kill her in this as well, it might be well worth it as well. 🙂

Steven Penrod on Jul 25, 2008

Actually, this is very much like Rocky Horror in that it started as an actual "nightclub" entertainment musical. But aside from that, the movie looks amazing. And who doesn't love some Giles?

eliza on Jul 30, 2008

It was also staged off-Broadway at one point.

eliza on Jul 30, 2008

i think this is going to be a hard rock version of across the universe, its going to have a love story and all, but it think its going to have some really Epic songs, this looks like a one of a kind original film and to me those are usually the ground breaking ones

Epic on Aug 17, 2008

Still must say this looks like one of the most interesting ideas out there and its a down right shame Lionsgate is trying to dump it even worse than the way the screwed over Midnight Meat Train. If you want this film in a theater even remotely near you, its gonna take a lot. It takes people like Alex Billington here to bring it the attention it deserves. Theres a grassroots effort for this film on the Repo message board accessed through where many fans like myself are doing all we can. Check it out!

For those Paris haters (of which I am one, to be honest), go to the website (linked in the comment above mine) and watch the Zydrate Anatomy film clip. Paris is the one with the two bodyguards that comes in about 30-45 seconds into the clip. At least judge her by her ability to play the role, I don't particularly like Robert Downey jr. but he did a great job as Tony Stark. She doesn't wow me (unlike a lot of the rest of the cast), but I do think she does a passibly decent job. Much better than I was expecting to be honest. Of course Graverobber totally steals the scene, as should be expected from the co-creator that's been playing the role as long as its been aroud.

Jev on Aug 19, 2008

This looks great, I can't wait for it to come out. Finally something new and exciting to look forward to in the cinemas!

Marcos on Aug 19, 2008

Never though id see Ogre in a musical. i'll be there opening weekend. before hot topic exploits it.

Gerardo on Sep 25, 2008

Im Mike (commentor #15) and I've now seen the film 3 times at Austins Fantastic Fest. Visionary, breathtaking, and extraordinary are the closest I can get to trying to explain just how different this surreal and infectious musical movie is. The visuals and cinematography are striking, and with this film Darren Bousman rises from director to auteur in my opinion. The performances (while those from Hilton, Brightman, and Ogre are all too brief for me in some regards, especially Brightman as she just draws you into her character in every scene she has) are astounding, Alexa Vega has a voice thats at once both smooth and edgy, Anthony Stewart head plays her father/Repo Man with a duality thats comedically fiendish, and Paul Sorvinos powerful vocals enhances the depth of his villianous character to superb effect. That said, it is not for everyone, but thats what makes it unique. Its a horror/science fiction/musical experience with what has to be the most oddest ensemble cast assembled in years tinged with black comedy and a fierce heart (no pun intended). Its a shame that Lionsgate Films still doesnt see this as what 3 different singing, laughing, and clapping audiences did, a darker, more dystopian Rocky Horror Picure Show with a truly touching climax. If you want this in a theater near you and want to support original, avant garde cinema that breaks the mold go to the movies official site and join in the grassroots effort to help this film.
