First Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian Teaser Trailer
Fox has debuted the teaser trailer for Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, the highly anticipated sequel hitting theaters this summer. The trailer was launched online at McDonald's (yea, no joke) and can be viewed below. I'm just going to get right down to it - this looks just plain awful. I really didn't like the first Night at the Museum anyway and was hoping the more grand scale (it is the Smithsonian!) would make for a better movie, but I was wrong. Only Night at the Museum could make a mockery of Abraham Lincoln and have a sculpture showing off his "guns" like a piece of trailer park trash.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian is again directed by Shawn Levy, of Big Fat Liar, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, and the first Night at the Museum as well. Original screenwriters Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon (of "Reno 911!" fame) are back and they're joined by Simon Kinberg, of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Jumper. Night at the Museum 2 will arrive in theaters everywhere on May 22nd, 2009 this upcoming summer. Who will win this fight: the Terminator or Larry Daley?

It doesn't look as bad as Alex makes it out to be...although I do agree the first movie was terrible

The first one was really enjoyable. A very rare thing - an entertaining family film. This looks just as good...and it's got Bill Hader in it. So I'm sold.
jason on Dec 19, 2008
this looks pretty dumb.

This looks almost identicle to the first. But maybe it can improve on the other. Im not going to hold my breath.
Chris on Dec 19, 2008
I'll bet they'll be making Night at the Museum: Love at the Louvre in a few more years...
Luis M on Dec 19, 2008
alex, i usually agree with your opinion, but cant understand why this looks so bad? Abe Lincoln looking like "trailer park trash" is called a joke. chill out.
Al on Dec 19, 2008
I liked the first one, the trailer was just okay for me, but I think I thought the same of the trailer for the first one too.
tzarinna on Dec 19, 2008
As I watched this trailer, I found myself laughing and thinking two thing: 1. this looks better, 2. i bet i'll be ashamed for laughing once I read the comments. Glad to see I'm not alone in actualling thinking this will be fun.
Matt on Dec 19, 2008
Looks about as good as the first, except what is the point of this one? First movie he didn't know what he was getting into too and needed the job, this time it seems like he does it on purpose. So what's the conflict? Nothing.

dam alex ease up a little, it's just a kid's movie. i mean sure the first one was mostly a steaming pile but it had its moments, as will this one. just hope it doesn't turn into the next chronicles of narnia and make half of what the first one made
LeeMan on Dec 19, 2008
Let's look where it begins. The "Star".. .... 2nd worst actor in the World....... Equals piece. The End.
Tim "Cloverfield" on Dec 19, 2008
Alex! Once again, you have managed to skirt away from telling us WHY something is "awful" and instead just fire out "This is just plain awful!" If we were at the local Starbucks talking about film, that's okay. But this is different. Please! Please! Try to follow Roger Ebert's example! Ebert is very good at explaining WHY something is "great" or "awful". Please! Say YES to Substance! Say NO to Rabble!
SS on Dec 19, 2008
For example, Alex: Instead of saying "The Aliens in The Day The Earth Stood Still are Stupid!", Ebert chooses to point out that the Aliens are contradtictory as characters because they are so advanced, yet they do not understand that the Earth will outlive humanity, and therefore the conclusion to do what they did is a bit hard to accept. By that token Ebert appears to run on a sense of fair game, that is, if a film already established a path of logic or a set of propositions, he can play along a bit and again give good feedback if it is convincing within its body of work or at least follows "The Logic of the Film's Reality". Please be more analytical. I think you can do that if you really try. Thanks.

Jonah Hill was really funny!

lots of Hank Azaria in that movie, playing that spartan type guy, the statue and Abe Lincoln memorial. Gotta love it as a Simpsons nerd

I'm a history buff who would love to spend hours in that museum, and it didn't offend me at all, Alex. Actually looks really entertaining.
scm1000 on Dec 19, 2008
Ben Stiller looks a lot older in this film...
Chris W on Dec 19, 2008
I'm sure you are aware, but the HD link to AOL points to the movies Obsession, not Night at the Museum

Movies like this are awesome for those of us with kids. Or those who want a movie to take neices/nephews to, pump them full of sugar and caffeine, the dump them back at home "Have a good night!"

This trailer is just what I expected it to be. I expected it to be dumb, but I am sure there are a few good laughs for the kids and the parents. It will probably even get some kids interested in history and museums again, which is a good thing. What I do not understand Alex is that you go buck nutty for a Friday the 13th remake that looks atrocious, and you think this movie looks terrible. Then again, the Friday the 13th people let you come and hang around their set and you have given the movie nothing but positive reviews and have began to hype it like The Dark Knight of horror movies.
John on Dec 20, 2008
Stiller Second Worst of all Time. I have to agree plus this is a shitty idea. But goes to the an actor of sub-par talent, so ...yes what a shit idea. Shit Shit SHIT!
D-9 on Dec 20, 2008
This looks awesome! Funnier than the first one if possible! Come on people, it's entertainment, not a life changing situation. Enjoy it! And remember, no one's forcing you to watch it!

I liked the first film and I will like this one too................
SHANEDAV on Dec 20, 2008
When this franchise dies and winds up with straight-to-DVD titles, who do you think'll replace Ben Stiller? I'm gonna guess Jamie Kennedy or Dane Cook.
Fiddie on Dec 20, 2008
It's not as bad as Alex makes it out to be, but it is only ok. There were some good one-liners in here, but there were those that fell flat on their face. Maybe the film will be better, but probably not. Oh, and that question that you gave at the end, it is a bit of a moot point. Terminator will be absolutely awesome, but this film is a lot mor family friendly. Most people will probably see this. Then again, Dark Knight wasn't very family friendly, yet it made awhole lot of money...
Ajax on Dec 20, 2008
I liked the first one and this one look good too. xD Its a good family film!!
Yamika on Dec 20, 2008
Haha! Looks great!! Just like Madagascar, I think this one will be at least as good, maybe even better than the first. Take it for what it is, that's what'll make it a great movie. Cept Lincoln... That wasn't.... no... But, I have been waiting for this since the news of its production came out, so I'll deffinitely be there.
Lauren on Dec 20, 2008
That looked hilarious, I'm going to see it.
N on Dec 20, 2008
"I have seen things you can't even imagine" that was the best part of the trailer and because of that part i'll be openminded on this
Silver on Dec 20, 2008
That was great, I'd totally be into seeing this. I NEVER LIE! lol
Nick Sears on Dec 20, 2008
How does this look awful? sure it looks a little bit corny at times but cmon, this looks like a riot! count me in!

I don't understand why serious film buffs can't get into family films. These are fantastic family films because they incorporate so many factions of childlike imagination into one story. I think this looks pretty funny. I'm hoping they can keep the adult humor to a minimum, because I think the only thing that could ruin this movie for me is making this movie too adult. And that is a definite possibility with Jonah Hill and Bill Hader (who has also done his fair share of childrens movie voice work). I place the early bet that this movie beats Terminator on Memorial Day Weekend. There are too many people who aren't sold on more Terminator movies, and there are those who will see the Terminator preview and the Transformers preview and think they look kind of similar and opt to wait for Transformers (those who don't go to the movies that often anyway). Whereas this will be the first big family film of the summer opening on a 3 day weekend, a weekend that suits family films, and I don't know many parents who aren't big fans of Night at the Museum and I think they're going to eager for another one.
ImaginaryVisionary on Dec 20, 2008
The first one was good. The second one has promise and it will beat Terminator on Memorial Day. It is a date/kid movie. It will win. Now I have to decide which movie I'll see on opening day...
TookyG on Dec 21, 2008
Seriously guys, this is the same Alex who watched the second installment of The Day the Earth Stood Still and said he liked it BETTER then the original version...oh yeah, he didnt even WATCH the original version. Alex is nothing but a piece of shit fanboy who has NO CLUE about movies. If it isnt about comic book nerds...*ahem*, I meant graphic novels stories or some CGI-blown BS, then Alex isnt liking it. Of course he gets personal about everything. How FS.net has gotten as big as it has with this moron running it is beyond me. I, for one, think Ben Stiller is overplayed but I loved him in Tropic Thunder and I think this film looks good. It's definitely do $200M+ domestic. (Doesnt mean it'll be good tho!)
AlexIsaTool on Dec 21, 2008
I'm just really bummed with the way this site has been going. Honestly, it is great for news on upcoming films and whatnot, but absolutely rubbish for reviews. You guys don't explain things it is just along the lines of "Hey this movie is retarded, and every arguement you use is invalid because I work for the site." Take some freshblood in there, I noticed you guys were hiring before, let the new guys take a stance on something instead of letting the old war vets decide what is great and what isn't. People have different opinions, maybe Alex you should look into opening up your mind.
Movieraider321 on Dec 22, 2008
i think it looks delightful.
justin on Dec 22, 2008
Family movies are fantastic.....seriously. But when starring complete .....complete HACKS and Non Actors, you have to draw the line somewhere. There are so many out there, if you despise the lead, then you don't see it. Period. Again. Shite! I would see this film if Stiller was not in it, and just like the first, I cannot support bad actors.
Tim "Cloverfield" on Dec 22, 2008
Could just be the trailer, but this looks like it has potential. I was very much disappointed by the first NATM; thought it could have been so much better. Love the Lincoln part. Not sure why we have to wait until Memorial Day. Looks like this is pretty much in the can.
didisaythatoutloud? on Dec 23, 2008
looks like fun.... loved the gunshow line and the sacagewiea(spelled wrong) line
neonblue on Dec 28, 2008
yaa look way better than the first one looks nice but i wanna see more trailers to be sure chill down alex leave the kids alone its a good movie
alan on Dec 29, 2008
It being a kids' movie doesn't give it a free ride and allow it to be mindless garbage. I give you Space Chimps as a perfect example of a movie that was made nearly unwatchable due to it's being 'written for kids' IE 'written for stupid people'. Kids are not just stupid people. Sure, a kid might like this as a kid, but this will be one of those movies they will hate when they grow up because it's so dumb. Which isn't to say that this is going to be a dumb kids' movie, but the first one was borederline. Good kids' movies: ET, several of the old and new Disney flicks (animated and live action), Pixar's stuff, Ghibli's stuff, Neverending Story, Labyrinth, The Sound Of Music, the Star Wars flicks Maybe i had an odd childhood, but I remember watching and loving movies like La Strada when I was a kid - and most adults think that flick is boring. I think a lot of people think a movie has to have some kind of retarded crap going on all the time to keep a kid engaged in a movie, but I think kids just need a reason to be engaged. The solution with a lot of films is to just throw as much slapstick into a movie as possible, but I watched very little of that sort of stuff when I was young. Aside from Looney Tunes, of course. But then, I didn't really watch a lot of movies and TV when I was a kid, either, so maybe that explains a lot as well.

lol @ "i never lie!" part.
Fisherr on Feb 2, 2009
Personally I had no interest in seeing this film and then I saw this trailer. It made me laugh harder than any trailer I've seen in a long time. The gun show part and the I never lie part were great. Defininitly count me in.
