Gort in The Day the Earth Stood Still Trailer

Finally we get to see some Gort! MySpace has debuted another international trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still. At this point I don't think I really need to introduce this any more or say much about it. However, all I should say is that you need to watch this trailer. Is everyone finally coming over to the good side on this one? Or are there still a few of you that are skeptical about it? To me, this is just proof that Hollywood can actually remake classics and deliver a great movie in the end. At this point there's nothing left to do except wait until we finally get to see this. And in the meantime, check out the new trailer.

Watch the international trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still:

[flv: 480 210]

The Day the Earth Stood Still is directed by up-and-coming director Scott Derrickson, of only The Exorcism of Emily Rose previously, with a script written by screenwriter David Scarpa, of only The Last Castle previously. There are a lot of fresh creative minds involved in this project who haven't yet had a lot of experience. The film is a remake of Robert Wise's 1951 sci-fi classic of the same name. Fox is releasing the re-imagined The Day the Earth Stood Still on December 12th this year.

Didn't really need this trailer to go see it... I was already sold

Aaron on Nov 12, 2008

I think I just filled the cup. HOT DAYUMN! This looks AWESOME... now let's hope and pray it's not another War Of The Worlds... classic sci-fi updated but much less thrilling in execution. We don't need another one of those!

RobOh on Nov 12, 2008

Brilliant! I kind of now know the plot, this trailer really gives it away.

mercy on Nov 12, 2008

"To me, this is just proof that Hollywood can actually remake classics and deliver a great movie in the end." Sorry...the proof is in the trailer??

Evo on Nov 12, 2008

This movie looks incredible i cant wait for it to come out the trailer is great

dave on Nov 12, 2008

Evo - Everything I've seen has been exceptional so far. There is nothing I've seen that has lead me to believe otherwise, so sure, proof shows that it's likely to turn out that way in the end, too.

Alex Billington on Nov 12, 2008

I am very impressed. But I do feel like fox has given away all the money shots and action stuff. Well frankly speaking all the studios give away that. It feels like fox and everyone involved in this movie cared about this a lot and are giving their best.

Jojo on Nov 12, 2008

Oh it seems like Keanu turns into good at the end of the movie. That is why he is gonna try to stop Gort.

Jojo on Nov 12, 2008

Why does everybody criticize War of the Worlds so much? Sure no one really cares for crazy Tom Cruise nowadays, but was the movie all that bad? I personally was expecting more of a slow plot anyhow, and we already have great films like Independence Day to thrill us, don't we? I think I understand everybody's point of view pretty well, and I completely respect it, but I just can't find it in myself to think so negatively about Spielberg's version.

The Whom on Nov 12, 2008

with modern day special effects technology this should be pretty cool

Chris on Nov 12, 2008

Sorry Alex, but I gotta disagree on this one, even if the trailers look "exceptional." I've seen enough crappy movies with awesome trailers to know to wait. The first to come to mind being Transformers. Great trailer, flaming turd of a movie. Same with X-men 3 and, from what I heard, both AVP movies. Besides, this mostly just looks like a bunch of environmentalist/global warming crap.

Joshua m on Nov 12, 2008

I can see this not being amazing, but it'll be worth watching

Scott McHenry on Nov 12, 2008

Looks good, but as a few folk said, the trailer has now given away a lot and i don't think Gort had been shown in those before? I might actually go to the cinema to to see this.

Crapola on Nov 12, 2008

Agree with #12. This movie is going to make Al Gore cry tears of joy. Bogus, enviro-radical joy. The nuclear war overtones would have been so much more fitting, especially considering the legitimate concerns surrounding nukes falling into the hands of certain nations of the Middle East.

Who dunnit? on Nov 12, 2008

So great !!! Cant wait until "the day the earth stood still" ^^

You would've thought some scenes were from Constantine (Hey that rhymes)

Jaf on Nov 12, 2008

SPOILER Klatu-Varata-Nicto!!!

Ripper on Nov 12, 2008

The only damn reason Im going to see this is because of Jon Hamm.

Derek on Nov 12, 2008

holy fucking shit. did u see that alien thing. its huge.

darrin on Nov 12, 2008

Gort looks AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!! Can't wait! The trailer is great and the movie has a sense of menace ... I hope it delivers! Long time without a good sci-fi flick.

Sam on Nov 12, 2008

Geez I'm worried. The trailer is pretty good, but this is Fox. Their the masters of editing wonderful trailers that gets people in seats, but once in the seat your watching crap. Still can't trust it.

jesse on Nov 12, 2008

Avatar will own this

Bob on Nov 12, 2008

Intense! No shit #24.

Nick Sears on Nov 12, 2008

The only reason I'm going to see this is because of Keanu Reeves. That's right fanboy haterz! My ovaries have made their demands known. Like females everywhere, I'll be dragging my date to see that sexy bastard on screen.

Marie on Nov 12, 2008

wa wa that T-bag i saw shrieking in us army gear??

Dexter on Nov 12, 2008

Alex - Not to be pessimistic but I'll have to agree w/ Michael Connelly from Rhythm and Hues whom I saw speak recently, who said that the first sign of a bad film is a whole gob of visual effects. That from a guy who makes a living in the field. Not to mention, trailers can give a deceptively good impression of a film, Star Wars: Episode 1 comes to mind. Plus, I can't say Keanu's acting has really come that far from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. That being said, I loved the Matrix and have high hopes for Watchmen. But, for me, the proof will be in the final cut, not the trailer.

Evo on Nov 12, 2008

Fox better not screw this one up!!

Blue Silver on Nov 12, 2008

Now THIS looks great. Take note Roland Emmerich. And while "War of the Worlds" had some genuinely terrifying moments, it was saddled with really terrible dialogue, more than a few eye rolling scenes and the worst performance ever by Dakota Fanning. The scene in the car with her screaming is Spielberg's worst directed ever.

Film Fan on Nov 12, 2008

Thus far, it just looks like another disaster flick. I don't think we need another disaster flick. This flick could have taken a more intimate look at ourselves instead of what appears to be a "we're destroying the Earth, our resource, so we too must be destroyed" plotline. I'm of the same mind as Evo: It's a bunch of flash, but where's the meat of the storyline? Have they saved those special interactions for the film's opening, or final trailer? Personally, I doubt it. I guess this is just more of a current personal preference Alex: I'm bored of all the glitzy effects and want some substance wrapped up in a flick like this. If I'm wrong about it's initial appearance, then I'll gladly call it a film once that is proven. 😉

Quanah on Nov 12, 2008

RIGHT! Fox Better Not Screw This Up. Trailer is A W E S O M E! Hope the movie will be the same. Which week of December is this coming out?

Shawn Gregory on Nov 12, 2008

Crap. One for the kiddies.

nef deppard on Nov 13, 2008

Damn!!! I think I just shat my pants! The more I see of this the more I can't wait to see it! BIG SCREEN... BIG SOUND! This one absolutely needs to be seen on the big screen. This looks awesome! Don't really remember the original, it's been a while. Have to give it viewing before going to go see this.

K on Nov 13, 2008

Damnit I can't wait. It'll be the first time I went to the movies since Batman.

*giant version*

Hideo Kojima on Nov 13, 2008

This is a FOX movie. FOX makes shit. Practically everything they've touched for the past five or six years has been entirely shit. The only saving grace to Fox is their "Searchlight" arm, which distributes a lot of really excellent films. The main studio is helmed by morons. FOX could learn somthing by watching Warner (fuck, all the studios could learn something by watching Warner...) Seriously, how does this look good at all? I've not seen anything so far that leads me to think this is going to be any more interesting than any of Micheal Bay's or Roland Emmerich's garbage. It's a star-studded cast full of people who can barely act and a shitload of completely crap-looking CG effects. It's just Independence Day with some alterations. There's even scenes of the military launching crap at the 'enemies', and all I can think of when I watch this movie is the kind of garbage that Ed Wood used to make, along with every other shit film-maker in those days. "OH NOES!! THE ALIENS / GIANT INSECTS / SUBTERRANEAN MONSTER IS ATTACKING! WHAT WE NEED IS A FIVE MINUTE SEQUENCE OF MILITARY STOCK FOOTAGE OF MISSILES BEING LAUNCHED!!!" The only difference is the fact that it's not stock footage anymore. It still manages to look fake as hell, tho.

Squiggly_P on Nov 13, 2008

This is going to suck. Don't believe the hype.

Lefthanded on Nov 13, 2008

im gald it said only in theatres at the end of the trailer. think i may have seen the whole movie IN the trailer though, hells yeehyah #38

Go watch the original movie. A little dated, but still well made. Also, it's good for a couple of laughs...

Google The Oct8pus on Nov 13, 2008

in the words of Keanu - "WOO" (spoken like a stoner and FROM EVERY MOVIE he does)

Dusty on Nov 13, 2008

Uh, it's "WHOA"

hibbidy dibbidy on Nov 13, 2008

Last shot was amazing. Now Alex, why don't you credit Fox for doing something right here and with Australia?

Ryan on Nov 13, 2008

big r on Nov 13, 2008

I think we've seen just about the whole movie in these teasers/trailers, haven't we... Boring.

avoidz on Nov 13, 2008

My main concern is that not enough of an explanation will be delivered. I hope I am wrong, cause this could be a great sci-fi movie if they get the screenplay right. But Scott Derrickson directing? hmm...not sure if he's got the goods.

Conrad on Nov 13, 2008

Damn, that's a shame. The original was so well done and without CG elements at all. Gort was so much more scary by just standing there with his glowing, throbbing eye. This Gort is over-the-top rediculous. The threat of distruction is much more intense. Sometimes, less is more. I will see the movie but it has nothing to do with the original and that's too bad. I wish they would stop calling them "remakes" when they're actually stand alone films that have nothing to do with the original material. Regarding, The War of the Worlds movie, now, that was crap. The ships are underground and while digging subway tunnels, laying pipe and feeding cables, no one ever stumbled across one? Complete bullshit.

Defeatedfrog on Nov 13, 2008

I highly hope that FOX doesn't turn us all down this time.. I have a very high expectation on this one since WAR OF THE WORLDS. Of course there were a couple of flaws in the movie, but yet it delivered the big bang.... especially on the horror and action sequence and of course not forgetting the special effects. There are only few movies that has this kind of big time special effects, definitely on the list is this one.. FOX don't screw this up. You have done this before a couple of times... no no... many times. If you keeping on doing this then people might start spitting at you. As a matter of fact they already have....

Steven on Nov 14, 2008

Trailer looks like promising. We should wait for the whole movie and see it...

Anonymous on Nov 16, 2008

Always keep in mind GILLICK'S LAW OF COMING ATTRACTIONS: "These are the good parts."

JTG on Nov 23, 2008

looks like it's full of dramatic one liners but I'll give it look see.

velequest on Nov 29, 2008

This will have a lot to live up to, however. "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is my favorite SciFi movie of all time. But virtually anything's better than supporting Scientology by paying to see Tom Cruise movies.

Jonathan on Dec 3, 2008

The trailers look promising! In Germany there's also a music video with sequences of the movie in it (but no new scenes besides the one from the official trailers I think), you can probably say that that's the 'official song of the movie' here. If you want to see it, look for 'Thomas D - Vergiftet im Schlaf' on Youtube.

oesi on Dec 6, 2008

Usually when studios promote a movie so heavily, it's because they know it will be disappointing -- they want to get as many people in as early as possible before the bad word of mouth spreads.

Miguel on Dec 7, 2008

reeves is the best choice for klaatu,he has a detached quality as an alien in a foreign body would have. i think this film will be very good.

Barb! on Dec 9, 2008

cant wait to see the new wolverine trailer

TIm on Dec 9, 2008

This could have been a great remake of a classic but I was disappointed because they had all the tools to do it right. Gort was awsome as far as the new look and potential. I believe that if Gort was used as in the first movie, the movie would have been so much better. Go check it out. Matt

Matthew on Dec 13, 2008

This movie SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! total BS political correct/ global warming DUD!!!!!!!!!!!!! watch the original.

dont waste time on Dec 13, 2008

I don't know why this movie was named after the classic black and white film because the new one was nothing like it. This new movie might have been way better if it was an altogether different movie. *shakes head, tsk tsk*

RSH on Dec 15, 2008

I liked the old Gort he had that put together in an alien's garage look. I liked the way he melted the weapons. He didn't need to do anything else because when Klaatu said he could destrioy the whole planet you just knew it was true. I agree with comment number 62 (RSH), they should have named the new movie something different. Return of Gort or something like that.
