The shooting and production of Bond 22 is being covered closer than nearly any other movie this year, with random casting details and set reports coming in daily. It's great to see interest in James Bond picking up again, but sometimes it's a bit excessive. The latest news to hit the internet is about the real Bond girl. In December we posted a report that British actress Gemma Arterton had been cast as the Bond girl, however that's not entirely true. She is cast in the film, but Hitman actress Olga Kurylenko will play the real Bond girl.
Gemma Arterton's role has only been identified as MI6 Agent Fields. It was first thought that she was cast as James Bond's primary female interest in the movie, but it turns out that her role is different than originally expected. Instead, Olga Kurylenko has been officially announced as the actual Bond girl in the upcoming currently untitled Bond 22. Kurylenko joins the returning cast of Daniel Craig as James Bond, Judi Dench as M, Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter and Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis. French actor Mathieu Amalric also stars as the villain.
Despite I'm one of the few who had to fight to show my appreciation for Hitman, I really thought Kurylenko was the weak link. She didn't seem to pull off her character and was more of annoying, nagging type than anyone I took interest in. This is another case where I really don't think her ethnicity and look fits into the Bond universe. But then again, any "hot" woman fits into Bond's universe, but that's not the point. Maybe I'm just missing it here and I'll give it a chance, but for now I'm not too excited.
Bond 22 is set to arrive in theaters on November 7th, 2008. The film will be directed by Marc Forster of Stranger Than Fiction and The Kite Runner.

Her ethnicity doesn't fit into the Bond universe? Ok, what the heck does that mean? She is a quintessential HOT white chick with some flavor - she could be anything, Latin, Eastern European, French, etc.

I don't think her ethnicity has ANYTHING to do with the role- she's beautiful and exotic-looking, as are ALL the bond girls. recall Halle Berry?! That's the point, isn't it? HOT girls= danger= Bond. That aside, I agree with you on Hitman- I actually liked it more than I thought I would have (mainly due to the cinematography). Olga's character was supposed to be annoying... so, let's give her a chance!

I think that she is a good addition and definitely played her character well in Hitman. I think that she will be a perfect exotic Bond girl!

Thank God Alex Billington does not manage most men's love life fantasy. It is hard to imagine any normal-alive Male not Day Dreaming about at Olga Kurylenko as The Dream Date. I do not share the same appreciation of Women as Alex and that is fine with me. Viva La Olga Kurylenko. GTCPA

Yeah if you found her annoying that means she did a damn good job, because like one other mentioned she was supposed to be exactly that. She was supposed to be that bad the hot chick with that bad lil kid behavior. Ethnicity doesn't have anything to do with the role but if it did, how does a hot Russian/Ukrainian lady not sit with Bond? She is in the role lets just hope she does well.
