Indiana Jones' Crystal Skull Revealed

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I'm not sure whether this would really fall into the category of a major spoiler, or I wouldn't be posting it, but since it's such a big part of the upcoming Indiana Jones movie, I thought why the heck not! Although an official synopsis still hasn't been released for the movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is obviously about a crystal skull in some way. A few new interesting photos have popped up all over the internet and we wanted to share them all with you. Hopefully by now you're as excited for the fourth Indiana Jones movie as us, and if not, maybe these last few photos will help.

This first seemingly harmless photo comes from the Official Pix Blog, who will be releasing a full size version of this as a collectible print later on in the year. But if you take a closer look in the background to the left behind Indiana Jones, you may notice a creepy alien-like skull stuck in the wall. I think all I need to do is wink and nudge you there.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

And this last one comes from our friends at MovieWeb and is apparently a live, full version of the actual crystal skull from the movie. Rather eerie and creepy I'd say! Check it out:

Photo has been removed at the request of Paramount Pictures.

Is there any reason to doubt that this is legitimate? MovieWeb just pulled this out of nowhere, but it looks pretty authentic. I guess we'll find out in the next few weeks after the first trailer is revealed.

Apparently the most that we, or anyone else, knows about the plot is that Indy goes on a hunt down in South America, while being tailed by the Soviets, for this mysterious crystal skull. Beyond that, it's anybody's guess how this will all play out.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg with a story by George Lucas and screenplay by David Koepp (Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, War of the Worlds). The movie arrives in theaters this summer on May 22nd!

Mmmm, looks like the skull of a classic grey alien. This could be an interesting flick, can't wait!

That is definitely a Alien Skull, probably one of the ancestor aliens that brought us to Earth...or maybe its just a really bug eyed human skull? I can’t wait to find out...

EtotheZ23 on Feb 5, 2008

It could be a grey alien, but all the ones described in any story you hear about have no teeth?

EtotheZ23 on Feb 5, 2008

If it turns out to be a skull of an actual alien that mean that there is some kind of artifact that can be use as a weapon and that explain why the russians are interested on the skull location.

Indiana Jones going Sci-Fi? not diggin it.

The Phantom called, he wants his skull back.

Brad on Feb 6, 2008

To #6 Aside from three of my friends, you are the fourth person that has made the comparison to the phantom. Even with the skull theme, i'm pretty sure that the movie will be really good.

Some further information can be found in a Vanity Fair interview:

Believe it or not, this is a movie based upon true events. Sounds unbelievable? Search "skull of doom" or "master skulls" in your search engine. There are 13 legendary crystal skulls, of which are said to have been left behind thousands of years ago by Mayan Elders. Frank Doland (a crystal carver) examined one of the crystal skulls at a Hewlett-Packard lab (in 1970) and said that there is no way the Mayan could have carved the Crystal Skull with their tools. Infact, the "[skull] had been carved against the natural axis of the crystal. Modern crystal sculptors always take into account the axis, or orientation of the crystal's molecular symmetry, because if they carve "against the grain," the piece is bound to shatter -- even with the use of lasers and other high-tech cutting methods."

OK 10 now you got me way more interested in this movie, thats more like it!

If you seek more information on the Crystal Skulls, check out a book called The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls. The Crystal Skulls were sacred to ancient Meso American peoples, their Ark of the Covenant so to speak. My concern is that they may use this movie to denigrate long held Mayan oral traditions, or demonize the Maya as did Mel Gibson in his movie Apocalypto, because they were not Christians. Enjoy the movie, but at least know the truth.

This movie will probably be a hit, but it most certainly will suck. Aliens in an Indiana Jones movie? Dear god I couldn't think of a worse idea. By the way, the Crystal skulls you people are talking about were fakes. They were manufactured in the 19th Century, not in Mesoamerica or by Mayans, they are sham artifacts. Like peltdown man.

Jonathan on May 16, 2008

Although it is true, there are Crystals Skulls that have been proven to be fakes, there are Crystals Skulls in existence that are genuine ancient artifacts. Oral tradition has it that 13 Crystal Skulls were brought to earth over 250,000 years ago by "Aliens" who came here to save our ancient ancestors. The skulls were used to store the knowledge and information brought to earth by the "Aliens". Not so far fetched when you consider that today, computer memory chips are made of quartz crystal and used to store information. The Mayans and Aztecs did not manufacture the Skulls, but were merely the last known civilizations to have them in their possession.

Aliens? Stupid.
