Marc Forster Will Direct Max Brooks' World War Z!

To top off an already very exciting day, with the debut of the new Watchmen trailer as well as Kick-Ass photos, Variety has announced that Marc Forster will direct Paramount's adaptation of World War Z! This calls for celebration! Anyone who has ever read Max Brooks' novel knows that it's an amazing story that will make a great post-apocalyptic movie. Forster, who just directed Quantum of Solace, is an fantastic choice for director, especially if you've seen Quantum and know how capable he is at directing action. The adaptation was written by comic book author J. Michael Straczynski and will be produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment. This really is some of the best news to come out of Hollywood in a long time!
Back in March we ran an extensive article looking at the script, which deals with the world wide zombie epidemic known as World War Z. Max Brooks scours the world ten years after the end of the war collecting stories from those who survived the fight that almost eradicated humanity. It was described as Children of Men but with zombies, which is more than enough to get me excited, although Forster has somewhat of a different take. He explains that, "the genre always fascinated me, and when they pitched it to me, it reminded me of the paranoid conspiracy films of the '70s like All the President's Men." I'm very interested to see what he'll do with this - since I've become an even bigger Forster fan after Quantum of Solace.
If you have never read the book, be sure to pick up a copy right away! You won't stop reading it until it's done and will instantly become a fan of it as soon as you do. Anyone else excited for this?

I recently read the whole book in about 2 days, it was so amazing I couldn't put it down. I, for one, can't wait to see this movie!

Just got done reading it as well and the whole time I just kept running it as a movie in my head and how they could do a really good zombie flick, which we dont see much of, and with forster on the job we are good to go.:) Im excited to see how he depicts the global devastation and the comeback. Also I really hope he shows the Japanese characters storyline because I think it would make a great story on the big screen with the escape for both of them and the uniting of them both and how they survived and such TIGHT!!!

I think you meant: "especially if you've seen Quantum and know how incapable he is at directing action". Book is good, this director ruined James Bond by not being able to direct action 🙁

Yup. Why bother getting the Bourne fight coordinator if you can't see what's happening? Just have some people wrestle and shake the cam in their face.

chrisUK says: "Book is good, this director ruined James Bond by not being able to direct action." Agreed. I've never been impressed with Forster's work. Very bland. I'm not saying he's Ratner terrible, but he's nowhere near impressive.

I read this book during the past summer on my way back from vegas. I personally thought it would be a better tv show then movie. Cause theres so many stories in the book being told. Who's to say thats all the stories left. I would watch it, its better then what we have on now anyways. But a movie could work as long as he adds all the detail the book has. It could even be about 2 movies worth of good story telling. Even if he ruined the bond movies with dumb action which i find hard to believe cause there were a few bond movies before that i rather not watch again. Atleast he does make a pretty looking movie and hopefully will be able to pull off wwz

YAY! I cannot WAIT for them to turn this book into SHIT! Maybe we can all hold hands and pick apart the trailers just like we have with Watchman! Weeeeeee!!!!!!!!! "@37...I agree Spamcracker the way they used a red car instead of a blue on, WTF? This movies going to suck! I hate this directer. He's but there with Ratner! ASSbag!" And just imagine, no matter how much we cry, we'll all go see it anyway and then get to complain about what they do to the second book in sequel. Ahhhh....Hollywood.

omg...omg...omg This is the best thing ever. I loved world war z and now seeing that the movie version will be directed by the same person who did Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale....omg..soo happy I was waiting so long for some news about this book!

I hope Forster and the rest of the production crew and writers keep one important thing in mind..... zombies are slow and methodical. None of this Dawn of the Dead / 28 days/weeks crap with sprinting zombies that are more rabid animals than mindless flesh eaters. I really hope they do this right and stick with the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z descriptions of zombies.

I'll get excited for this movie when I'm sitting in a theater and the previews have ended. I've seen too many good ideas for a movie end up tanking for one reason or another. And PLEASE stop calling it "children of men with zombies", children of men sucked.

I have read the book and did exactly that. I COULD NOT put id down until the story had ceased. Huge fan of the genre and have an odd fascination with the flesh eating infected we know as ZOMBIES!! HAHA i have been following developments on this piece as soon as i finished reading the novel and realized the potential it had as a full-length feature film. Not to my surpise i am not the only one who understanding. To say i am anxiously waiting the completion of this project like a desert dweller waiting for water is a vast understatement.

I doubt it will be terrible, it will be at least an acceptable movie but it has the potential to be AMAZING and i just hope Marc Forster knows just how important this movie is to the world and he needs to pull as much out of it as he can
