MovieTickets.com's Most Anticipated Upcoming Movies Poll
by Alex Billington
October 30, 2008
We ran this exact same report last year, too. MovieTickets.com recently did a poll to find out what the Top 10 Most Anticipated Films are for next year. The results are always a bit odd - mainly because their polling technique doesn't result in a completely accurate representation of most moviegoers. This time they polled some 4,000 ticket buyers throughout August and September to get the results seen below. This list is a good representation of some of the most highly anticipated films for next year, but not all of them. For example, Watchmen is missing entirely, but I doubt it was even included in the choices anyway.
MovieTickets.com Top 10 Most Anticipated Films:
1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
4. Public Enemies
5. Angels & Demons
6. Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian
7. The Informant
8. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
9. The Day the Earth Stood Still
10. The Taking of Pelham 123
The only reason that Half-Blood Prince has so much buzz at the moment is because the release date change was such huge news and its been on everyone's mind since then. And The Informant - does anyone even know what this is actually about? Why does it have buzz? The results were also different per age group, with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen the top result for 24 and under, X-Men Origins: Wolverine the top result for 25 to 39, and Angels & Demons the top result for 40 and older. All of that makes sense, but the rest of this list shouldn't be seen as the authoritative judge of what's hot next year.
Of course the next step is to ask myself, and all of you, what your most anticipated movies are. To stay out of the action, I'll only mention that Watchmen is at the very top of my list, as is Star Trek, Harry Potter, Transformers 2, and James Cameron's Avatar. What are your most anticipated movies?

When is Wolverine even supposed to come out? I haven't heard jack about it except that they got Van Wilder to play the greatest comic book character ever and his dumb ass is probably going to screw it up (on a good note I heard he beat out Dane Cook, which if that went through I would have had to go kill some people.).

Number 2, you're a fool. Michael Bay is a terrible storyteller and an even worse director (these days anyways). What is the Taking of Pelham 123??? I don't know anything of that one at all....

Did some research on 'The Taking of Pelham 123'. its based on a book and its also a remake. The movie is about some people who hijaked a train and the city must come up with money or the passengers will get executed. sounds like a good thriller. Denzel and John travolta is in it.

@#4 : Have no idea what character you're talking about, as I've never read the comics, but I think Ryan Reynolds has done some actually good movies after Van Wilder. Note that I say some. Never going to forgive anyone connected to Blade 3. Both "Chaos Theory" and "Definitely, Maybe" were solid movies. So I'm actually looking forward to the Wolverine movie. Watchmen wouldn't come near my top list, as I've never heard of the comics (graphic novel (?), whatever) before seeing the trailer here on FS (and I wasn't impressed). But had never heard of x-men or iron man prior to their releases either, and I have to say those turned out good. And if you're wondering what hole I've been living in to miss these comics (or graphic novels (?!)), it's called Sweden...

Tranformers and Wolverine for me. Of Course Watchmen and Star Trek for a strong curiosity of potential movie greats. Harry Potter ughh, did you have to read the books, cus every time I try watching them I feel I am watching a kids movie? Please let Wolverine be dark and borderline hero!!Stevo, A far as Ryan Reynolds ( VanWilder ) sucking. Your way off, that dude is bad ass. In my books he could and should do some serious Sci fi action roles. Van Wilder was just a stepping stone (also made him an Icon) he's done excellent in some tough roles (granted there was poor directing in many) and he is jacked unlike some comic roles played, so calm down there jerky.
