Must Watch: Adam Sandler's You Don't Mess with the Zohan Trailer
by Alex Billington
April 25, 2008
A new full-length trailer for Adam Sandler's You Don't Mess with the Zohan has made its way online. I'm going to be bold here and say this looks a lot better than Will Smith's Hancock. While it may not be the best comedy of the summer (that will most likely either be Get Smart of Tropic Thunder), Adam Sandler is way better at comedic acting than Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and maybe even Will Ferrell. When I first heard the concept for Zohan, I thought it sounded awful, but now I'm digging it - something about Sandler in this trailer just had me laughing the whole time. I got a good feeling this could be pretty damn funny - or am I wrong on this one, too?
Watch the new trailer for You Don't Mess with the Zohan:
You Don't Mess with the Zohan is directed by Dennis Dugan, who previously directed I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, The Benchwarmers, Saving Silverman, and Big Daddy. The film is written by three comedy greats: Knocked Up's Judd Apatow, SNL's Robert Smigel and Adam Sandler. Zohan arrives in theaters this summer on June 6th. The latest poster is featured below.
Let me be the first to state that you are DEAD WRONG. Adam Sandler is awful. Yeah...I can sit through Happy Gilmour or Wedding Singer if there is nothing else on cable on a sleepless night...but there is also a lot of tripe this guy puts out. Better than Murphy or Myers?...eh. But this does NOT look better than Hancock. You are certainly fixated on that blue screen (hanging by a wire) clip. I'd watch Hancock 3 times before I spent my 10 bones to look at this on the big screen.

Completely agree with Kaiser Soze. Adam Sandler should of been shot a long time ago.

I'm a bit of a Sandler apologist because his dumb frat-boy routine worked for me as a comedic device for a long time. Nothing tops Happy Gilmore. Good times. That said, Sandler has been slacking the last few years. I appreciate that he's attempted to branch out with films like Punch Drunk Love, Spanglish and Reign Over Me - but we haven't seen an out of the park comedy from him in a long, long time. I have to admit, Zohan not only looks like a return to form, but Sandler appears more confident in his abilities as a comedic actor NOT having to resort to "abbey doobey" histronics. I'm really looking forward to this one.

Listen... I definitely think that Sandler is a lot better than Edie Murphy and Mike Myers. Murphy's film "Meet Dave" looks awful and Myers' "The Love Guru" looks equally horendous. I think that Sandler is the #rd best SNL alum making moves right now (behind Ferell and Tina Fey). But wil "Zohan" be better than "Hancock"? If I had to put money on it, I would say no. However, it's a big posiblity that I would be wrong, so I'm just gonna wait and see.

You've gotta be kidding...Must Watch? This movie still looks awful. The first trailer that came out and this new one doesn't improve upon the concept. How did the pitch meeting go for this movie? Ex Israeli soldier who comes to the states to be a hair dresser? Wha? With comedies like Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express, Get Smart coming this summer, I hope audiences are smart enough to save their money for the good stuff. Then again, judging by who this movie is appealing to I don't know if they even care to save the money. Eh...But everyone is entitled to an opinion. At least it doesn't look "Little Nicky"-bad

This does look funny and pretty original. I like Sandler's comedies more than Eddie Murphy's. "Meet Dave," does not catch my attention. "The Love Guru", with Mike Myers seems to be another take of his famous Austin Powers persona. I believe that Sandler's comedy will do better than the other two. Heck, he even looks like my sister's hairstylist.
Spider on Apr 25, 2008
This movie looks god awful. i would go see the love guru before this and thats about as likely as me caring about the cronicles of narnia still existing.....absolute crap.
Mortuus on Apr 25, 2008
You think this looks good? What part? Where he kicks through the wall or where he dances to 'Pump up the Jam' as if he were in a early 90's video. At least Hancock looks like Peter Berg is trying something new with superhero movies (putting Smith is jail is creative). This has Little Nicky written all over it.
TALL on Apr 25, 2008
I love Apatow but this does not look good. I'd definitely rather see Hancock over this. This just looks like another forgettable Sandler flick.
Bridget on Apr 25, 2008
no way does this do better then hancock. hancock is going to make a killing in theatres and is a greattttttt idea love guru has had a TON of momentum for instance check out mike meyers and deepak churpra (bad spelling) on the lil known iconoclasts series from sundance channel adam sandler in happy gilmor and billy madison were very succesffuly films hence why the guy has survived the last few disaters (maybe since he has his own production studio, or something to that effect, he can?) mike meyers is a comic GOD, literally a living diety when it comes to comedies i think its going to play out like this: 1.) hancock - release date + will smith + very catchy well executed idea = low level block buster 2. ) Love Guru - mike meyers + good release date + timing = money maker 3.) zohan - stupid story idea - bad streak sandler - way to long of a promotional campaign zohan is going to bomb but not as bad as meet dave which is going to be 2nd only to pluto nash

This looks better than Hancock? You also make no sense. Was it you that said you didn't like Hancock because: "I still hate the ridiculously bad wire work and stupid lines..." And yet you think this movie looks good? Alex its pretty clear your taste in movies is a bit off.

What was the last truly funny movie Sandler was in? And, what was the last Adam Sandler movie that didn't have him playing the 18 year old trapped in a 30 year old's body? I'll watch it, just cause it's Sandler doing something different.
nate on Apr 25, 2008
Wow... this still looks like crap. At least the new Hancock trailer made me want to see it...this just confirmed that I really don't want to see this. I can't believe you think this looks better? What was funny about that trailer... I never cracked a smile one.
Jeff Warner on Apr 25, 2008
...and everyone here will be lining up to see it. "Click" made bank 2 years ago. "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry", made bank just last year. This movie will, no doubt, make bank 2. One thing's for sure, women love Adam Sandler's comedic schtick--and this one seems aimed at the women. *** As long as Adam Sandler stays away from dramatic pictures, he'll be fine.
Pickle on Apr 25, 2008
Haha, I like Sandler but HATED Click. Otherwise he makes a good flick. This one looks very funny too.
Ryan on Apr 25, 2008
I think it will be pretty funny and people like Adam Sandler. Mike Meyers is using the Austin Powers schtick with a different character. Hancock looks great though, the new trailer is far superior to the previous one.

Adam Sandler is the man his movies are hilarious specially his older ones, his new ones are not so great but they still make me laugh and Zohan looks great and im wanting to see it not only for Adam Sandler but Rob Schneider as well that man just makes me laugh out loud. Though i think this film looks good and funny i dont agree with you at all Alex when you say this looks better then Will Smith's Hancock i think the first trailer didn't look to good but the second one looks really good and i cant wait to see it, Im looking forward to Hancock more than Zohan but im going to see both.

I LOVE IT... I am so happy to see that it is getting this much response in the comments... good or bad.. I am personally pumped for the movie.. I KNOW IT WILL BE DUMB AS ALL *BEEP*... but still .. I am pumped.. and of course my wife just smacked me upside the head for saying this... but hey... I like the concept.
Dusty on Apr 25, 2008
this is a must RENT alright
bltzie on Apr 25, 2008
Yes, this does look funny. No, it won't come close to Will in Hancock or the special effects in Hancock. The difference is huge; I'll go see Hancock, no question, & I'll rent Zohan.
Sinner on Apr 25, 2008
This looks terrible!! Hancock looks much better, Will Smith rules!
Twister on Apr 25, 2008
Sandkler hasnt been funny since he recorded "Piece of Shit Car"....he ranks right along with totally not funny Will Ferrell...but I did like the martial arts scene with the foot jokes...
CORNHOLIO_BY_THE_SEA on Apr 25, 2008
How did this discussion go from "Zohan" to "Hancock"; such an inane comparison. Apples and oranges anyone?
Musty Breath on Apr 25, 2008
It's a good idea to read the post first Musty. But yes, apples & oranges.
Sinner on Apr 25, 2008
"Adam Sandler is way better at comedic acting than Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and MAYBE EVEN WILL FERRELL"....blasphemy
funnytunney on Apr 26, 2008
I think Hancock has better potential to be funny (the fact that it's a superhero parody but NOT the same kind of parody that the 'movie' movies are... It's good parody...). The sad thing is that after I saw Punch Drunk Love, I was really hoping Sandler would do more serious work / more dramatic roles.
Squiggly_P on Apr 26, 2008
I just don't find Sandler funny. I was laughing at other jokes in the trailer, but whenever I see Sandler, all joy just leaves me. Maybe his fake accent in this film can hide some of his regular speech inhibitions that I just find plain annoying. That would at least make it watchable.
dak on Apr 26, 2008
How can this site maintain any sort of credibility when it actually recommends Adam Sandler movies? :p
avoidz on Apr 27, 2008
I will go watch this, and from just the trailer alone. I will buy it on disc. The crazy out there concept and his funny friends from his other movies make it worth watching to me. I looks like it we will better than Click, and Chuck and Larry.

I SEE A LITTLE BIT OF BORAT IN THIS ZOHAN CHARACTER. DOES ANYONE AGREE?
ANTHONY on Apr 27, 2008
the only thing they have in common is their politics. jewish superhero = arab klutz.

I look just like XZohan and this guy is about to honestly ruin my life! When this hits theaters everyone will be calling me Zohan, its got me up at night. A friend of mine had gotten me a full sized Sandler cardboard cut out as Zohan, I think he stole it from a Theater....anyway its not funny to me. The movie looks like he finally went back to his roots, which is good. He is a comedian and Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore were classics, come on the wooden hand in Gilmore was hilarious and Stiller as the sick bastard running the old folks home was priceless. I am just hoping there are some funny scenes with Schneider also although it doesn't look like he says "You Can Do It!" which is too bad (running gag throughout many Sandler films which started in Waterboy).
Cofoni on May 28, 2008
This movie looks like utter crap. Mass produced garbage, just like everything else. PS, Brad- "Completely agree with Kaiser Soze. Adam Sandler should of been shot a long time ago." You mean should "have" not "of". Man, I hate that...
Me on Jun 5, 2008
Exactly that "not even funny". I was just hoping that this movie would be something better, but I found out that it was just like all his other movies. JUNK. I was debating to see the Zohan or Kung Fu Panda, the later would have been the right choice. Let's see how many stars we can fit into one movie, because it is all senseless and stupid. If I was an Arab or Jew I would be totally offended.
Not Even Funny on Jun 6, 2008
I dont think Zohan is gonna be better than Hancook...but it will be better than Meet Dave and the Love Guru...and hell yeah he is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than will ferrel. He is the best actor in comedy...just watch Click
