9 Trailer

We definitely have a treat for everyone today. Focus Features has debuted the first trailer for an animated film called 9 that is being produced by Tim Burton and Wanted's Timur Bekmambetov. You need to see this. It's being described many different ways, but I like this one the best - if LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy found himself in the world of Half-Life 2. That might only mean something to gaming geeks, but either way, you still must watch this trailer. Not only is it visually astounding, but the story and experience overall look incredible! I'm sold - this is the first time I've ever been this excited for a non-Pixar animated movie!

9 is both written and directed by visionary filmmaker Shane Acker, of two previous animated shorts The Hangnail and The Astounding Talents of Mr. Grenade. The screenplay was co-written by Acker and Pamela Pettler (Corpse Bride, Monster House). 9 was first an animated short that debuted in 2005 and earned an Oscar nomination. Providing their voices for the film are Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Christopher Plummer, and Martin Landau. 9 will arrive in theaters on September 9th.

hhhmm....I could've gone to a test screening of this back in the summer. I regret not signing up for it now.

this looks pretty sick. and i hate to be that guy but could someone tell me the song used in the trailer. thank you πŸ˜›

Corey B. on Dec 24, 2008

"Welcome Home" by Coheed and Cambria. This looks great, and I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

Cody on Dec 24, 2008

Simply incredible. You can see the influence of Burton in the animation style, and dark theme of it.

CK on Dec 24, 2008

Looks dam good from the trailer...... going to be a long wait to actually see it though!!!

Warren on Dec 24, 2008

thank you cody

Corey B. on Dec 24, 2008

WOW! That was amazing! So different but looks incredibly interesting.

K on Dec 24, 2008

the words AWESOME, and VISUALLY SPECTACULAR come to mind when watching this trailer. however alex, a better game analogy would be: what happens if the world of "fallout 3" is explored by LBPs sackboy.

dan on Dec 24, 2008

Wow. Something fresh. πŸ™‚ Here's hoping.

nef deppard on Dec 24, 2008

I am not sure what to think, but one thing is for sure. It's very interesting.

L on Dec 24, 2008

Looks very interesting. Anybody knows the music used in the trailer??

Mac on Dec 24, 2008

The animated short this is based upon was an amazing short. I recommend everyone seek it out. It is well worth the time.

Necrothug on Dec 24, 2008

@#17-try reading the comments above you. not being rude, just blunt.

sarah on Dec 24, 2008

Finally they started using this kind of animation for a good purpose, an action film.

9001 on Dec 24, 2008

This looks really really good!!!

Jeremy on Dec 24, 2008

*Gasp* Is this an original idea, being made into a movie? Finally! It does look great.

Nate on Dec 24, 2008

remember the omen, 666. this is 999. looks great though.

darrin on Dec 24, 2008

Wow this looks'll be quite the change to see Pixar competing with someone for an Oscar for once. Putting Timur and Burton together will produce something so wild that I'm sure it'll be on my favorite films list in the near future. Bravo...

I usually kinda hate all things Burton, and have no idea wtf LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy is, but that looks awesome, I'm there!

Richard on Dec 24, 2008

what is this about

cheater on Dec 24, 2008

9 looks effing amazing seriously. I'ts so damn cool and refreshing that more studios are starting to put out darker and more mature anime movies instead everything being the next Shrek or Madagascar. I will deffentially have to check the flick out. πŸ™‚

wrongturn on Dec 24, 2008

Wow. I really have no idea what was going on in that trailer. And at the same time... I did. This movie is definitely on my radar now...

Lauren on Dec 24, 2008

Samma on Dec 24, 2008

Wow I need this now. 9 months till it's out (get it 9 oh so witty marketing), though... πŸ™

Dan Mace on Dec 24, 2008

coheed & cambria made this trailer hahah such an epic mix of the two.

swisschez on Dec 24, 2008

the characters resemble Drywall from Rob Schwab's Comic Book Scud...any fans?

Al on Dec 24, 2008

This looks awesome....but I think we're looking at the first big bomb of next fall. Unless this gets incredibly good word of mouth it's too dark to attract families with kids, and there just isn't a big enough market for non-kid friendly animated films. But I like said....I think it looks incredible. I wish it were coming out in the summer instead of the fall!

ImaginaryVisionary on Dec 24, 2008

this looks filthy good.. i cant f*ckin wait for this

sorr on Dec 24, 2008

haha i know what sackboy is but never plaed half life

aj on Dec 24, 2008

The soundtrack made by the chilean metal band MYTHOLOGY????????????? That gave me goosebumps cuz i'm from chile... And some kind of Fallout3 movie??

Zandhu on Dec 24, 2008

looks great πŸ˜› but is it me or some of the bad guys look like big daddys from bioshock?

Padme on Dec 24, 2008

Wow this is great news. I remember watching the short film on the internet and thinking it was amazing! I know this doesn't matter, but i don't agree on the Coheed song they picked apart for the trailer. It doesn't have the right mood for it.

Dan W on Dec 24, 2008

Really? Story= cool, Filmmakers= cool, Animation= well, I hope they spend the next nine months rendering the crap outta this. Otherwise it's just Pixar-Lite. That P.O.S. Delgo looked less video-gamey than this does.

chickachickaboomboom on Dec 24, 2008

46 - Watch it in 720P or higher, it really does make a difference. It looks absolutely gorgeous to me, and a lot of tallent is involved.

Kelley on Dec 24, 2008

Very nice.

N on Dec 24, 2008

Oh... ummm... my mistake... was coheed... not mythology

Zandhu on Dec 24, 2008

i just busted a Rock Band nut.

dennis on Dec 24, 2008

This is the best trailer I've seen in a while. Too bad it's so far away, guess ill just have to keep watching it. also in 1080p it is spectacular.

Alexander on Dec 24, 2008

so they've got a musical comin called nine, and theyve got this one too. is that even allowed, cuz if it is then it's got confusion written all over it

LeeMan on Dec 24, 2008

dude the music is so epic

Eric on Dec 24, 2008

This looks really good. I hope to see a bit more of the plot fleshed out in future trailers, but the whole "life after death" thing makes me really happy and stuff.

jman571 on Dec 24, 2008

SCORE! This looks great!

Nick Sears on Dec 24, 2008

HELL YEAH Coheed and Cambria!!!!!!!!

peter on Dec 25, 2008

@#19 - blunt works for me πŸ™‚ Thx for remembering me to clean my glasses.

Mac on Dec 25, 2008

WOW awesome animation awesome score looks promising πŸ˜€ darn time we saw some real action in animation πŸ˜€ its been so long since final fantasy advent children πŸ˜€ (this years Resident Evil Degeneration is also nice but not that strong :D) i will certainly wait for this one to hit the theatres (does anyone know anything about the actual rating? pls dont let it be pg13 πŸ™ ) cheers

burak on Dec 25, 2008

@ 58... Was Resident Evil Degeneration worth a watch? I've been intrigued by it, but haven't dedicated the time yet...just wondering what your review would be.

peloquin on Dec 25, 2008

fuckin' WOW.

Kingbender on Dec 25, 2008

Very nice, very nice indeed.

tzarinna on Dec 25, 2008

The hell?

Nick on Dec 25, 2008

I like the videogame comparison the enemy thingys and the feel of the world felt like half life 2.

Cody on Dec 25, 2008

hmmmm... um ok.... interested, but have no clue why I am or what will compell me to see it, cause that triler did not. Some ragdolls from Caroline do battle???

Dusty on Dec 26, 2008

@ 59…peloquin well to say the truth i am not good at reviewing since for each movie i watch, i use completely unique checklist dedicated to that movie alone πŸ˜€ mostly i dont compare movies with others (unles they are really meant to be in the same line same genre and this is not according to my point of view but in general :D) but i can certainly say that it was certainly not Advent Children but it was fun to watch, had some cool effects and story telling sequencing the graphics were also good but not top notch the story is as usual it had some very good potential to pull serious twists but the way they have handled it was cheap, could be told from a mile away its good to see old friends from the previous games show up πŸ˜€ oh, about the hair animations i didnt like them πŸ˜€ the Advent children was awesome in that department too πŸ˜€ hope its been usefull πŸ˜€ cheers burak

burak "daequitas" on Dec 26, 2008

I understand the relation to LittleBigPlanet, but for those insinuating that 9 is copying LBP, know that the short film has LBP beat by several years. That said, I was rivetted by the short when I saw it, and I'm ecstatic for this.

Ian Kazimer on Dec 26, 2008

Whoa! That looks awesome. It also looks totally original. I'm really down on this re-make madness now-a-days.

Puke on Dec 26, 2008

Thanks for the critique Burak, I'll have to check it out seeing as I liked Advent Children.

peloquin on Dec 26, 2008

the pure awesomeness of this trailer made me melt in my seat. I don't know if I can wait 8-9 months!!!! Oh god... I just can't think about it ><!!

Eric on Dec 28, 2008

answer to the music question: the first part of the trailer uses "the captain" by the knife. not so sure about the epic guitarfest though.

evil jellyfish on Jan 1, 2009

0:45 on is Coheed & Cambria - "welcome home" aka epic guitarfest

swisschez on Jan 1, 2009

I think that song just killed it. It would be way better with some dark moody soundtrack to give it that "end of the world" or "the world has been destroyed" feel.

Somni on Jan 6, 2009

This movie will be great, I've already watched that trailer to the point I can tell you what happens XD But I highly suggest to anybody thats a big action fan. Like meh. I like the song though, it really goes with the plot. "Sometimes fear, is the appropriate response." Bahha, awzome And go on you tube and search up 'The Animation Show' and click the one that say 'Animation show (ending)' this might be the reason he made this

9fan and Me on Jan 6, 2009

This almost looks like a Tool(Band) Video!

Duncan on Jan 10, 2009

This is the kind of animated moive I have been wanting to see. I will buy on DVD without hesistation and I can assure everyone it'll PG, maybe PG-13 but I doubt it. If this had came out in October of 2008 I would have bought it by now. I must see this and an determined not to miss it. This is a one-of-a-kind rare animated movie. If someone doesn't like it they should watch AVP R then campare the two.

Acro on Jan 27, 2009

Gods. that looks amazing. FYI, you should check out the short film it's based off of. Same title, by indie animator Shane Acker. It's brilliant!

Nerbomber on Jan 29, 2009

according to here : the movie will be rated PG-13 for "Frightening Sequences and Language"

Stallan on Jan 30, 2009

"welcome home" ...FUCK YEAH! I'm seein this.

dan on Feb 1, 2009

LittleBigPlanet meets Fallout 3, looks like it anyway... XD Awsome

Nate on Feb 28, 2009

#81, I am not too suprised by the "Frighting Sequences" part but "Language"? Thats not only a suprise but a let down. I would not expect a movie like this to get that, especially considering allot animated/CG movies (at least not the ones aiming for R or PG-13) get their ratings when they are at this caliber with CG. I will watch it or get it either way but still, not something I like to see coming.
