Must Watch: First Terminator Salvation Teaser Trailer!
by Alex Billington

This wasn't supposed to be online this early, but here it is anyway, the first teaser trailer for the (soon to be) highly anticipated Terminator Salvation. Christian Bale stars as John Connor, Bryce Dallas Howard as Kate Connor, and Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese. After seeing this, I'm finally able to tell you that officially this does not look that impressive… at all. In comparison to the Watchmen trailer, it's like night and day (this one being the ugly one). Although this is a teaser and barely shows any footage, I'm still not that excited. However, I think we just need to see more. There are a few scenes that make me feel like it could be great, plus I don't think anyone can go wrong with Christian Bale! Overall, I'm not looking forward to this (yet), but maybe I need to see this trailer on the big screen to fully take it all in. Thoughts?

In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
Terminator Salvation is directed by McG of Charlie's Angels and We Are Marshall with a script written by writing duo John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris (Into the Sun, The Net, The Game, Terminator 3). This film marks the return of the Terminator series after Terminator 3 in 2003. Terminator Salvation arrives in theaters next summer on May 22nd, 2009. Stay tuned for more!

It doesn't feel anything like the originals. But, it looks better then T3. To me it reminds me of Transformers which I liked. It was just pure popcorn entertainment. So I guess it will be T4 vs T2 next summer

The teaser itself looks okay. The scenes of the robotic hand grabbing the man and of the robot emerging out of the water seem somewhat familiar to the likes of Transformers. Of course, it would have been a great if we had a peek at a T-800 or lower model. However, in a sense I like how the Terminator universe is being expanded...into daylight. I don't mean to be sarcastic, but all the futuristic sequences from the two movies (and third if you count that as canon) are at night, but this trailer had some daytime scenes of the future which I welcome with open arms. I did like the homage to Cameron's first terminator with the tank's tracks running over a skull just like from the first movie. On another note, this is the first time I'm reading the premise of the film (thanks for posting that, Alex) and I like how Marcus is an ambiguous character sent from either the past or future. And Bale's voice over was good in setting that up as well. In any case, this is an excellent take on John's father's, Kyle Reese, quote..."No fate but what we make." Or am I mistaken and did the future John make his father memorize it? Nonetheless, I think I'm a bit more excited than earlier...but McG is still holding me back.

I support this movie because Sam Worrington is in it and he is the lead her of AVATAR movie from James Cameron. Other than that fuck you Christian Bale and everyone involved with this movie except James Cameron if he is involved.

I was just in Albequerque, New Mexico, where this was filmed, and I used to live in the area. And I feel that while a lot of the action from the first two movies took place at night, the war would be an ongoing thing, and therefore daylight would have to come into play. Which is why I am quite happy that they chose to film in New Mexico. If the environment is used correctly, it could lend a great deal to the atmosphere of the movies and to the franchise as a whole. As for this trailer, I think it is far too short to really get an idea of what the film will be like, but it did have a "Terminator" feel to it, and I think Bale will be great as always.

This teaser really got me hyped and excited for the film i thought it did a great job of leaving you with the feeling of whats going on. It feels like Transformers but with a Terminator touch to it, maybe thats just me and i get excited to easily but im really digging this teaser and cant wait to see it on the big screen on sunday and looking forward to a full trailer in the coming months.

For a trailer the pacing seemed a little off, but obviously they didn't want to give too much away this early on and, yes, the strong use of daylight did give it a nice immediacy. Interested? Sure, why not?

Well, at least it is not one of those trailers that shows the whole movie. But it showed dark and light scenes, possibly one robot at the end. The trailer wasnt crafted very well, but to me it looks like another war flick based on the scenes. I think a pre-Craig Bond film trailer. Lots of dust, shooting and that is about it. I am excited for it being a great trilogy. Dont get me wrong, but felt that it was limited, could be because the animation to run the robots or the secrecy of the robots are being held back, but I only really saw one character fully and that was Christian Bale, there was another man in the shadows, but that was it. Need more or a more clear visual.

Well, #6, it actually DID die, but see... time travel does a lot of goofy things to that whole "death" deal-e-o. 😉 I liked #3, so I could be being partial when I say that I'm interested. Wow did I go into 3 with low expectations, but I loved what they did with the end of that movie.

FARK YAH!!! I feel like they're gonna give a good amount of that 'scared-human-race-in-danger' pacing to it, like how I felt during the first half of war of the worlds. I'm pumped. BRING IT!

Chill out. The trailer did exactly what it was supposed to do. It gave us a tiny taste to get us interested without showing too much. Everybody complains when the trailers spoil too much of the film & everybody else complains when they don't show enough. I like what they did w' this first TEASER trailer & I'm excited about this one. Well done. We desperately need more manly action movies. JUST SAY "NO" TO GIRLY MEN. Wouldn't you agree Safi & Manfred? Nevermind, I guess you wouldn't.

I like the looks of this already. I wanna see some shifts in content now that the past was affected by the future, what was thrown off, how the war changes, and what John Conner has to do to keep the whole timeline in check.

During the first trilogy, the whole point was: "We are the mankind of the near future. Everything seems to indicate that this guy John Connor will be the saviour of all of us, he is SO big and monumental as a figure that we need to keep sending humans and robots to the past in order to save his ass, because the machines don't learn a damn thing and they keep sending more and more robots to kill him when he was a boy!" So, it will be great to actually see the grown-up John Connor kicking terminators in their freaking mechanical and cold butts, and we all will get to see how the guy became a legend in the first place... Besides, Christian Bale is great, so, i'm not afraid of this movie at all!

Looks pretty good, especially the vfx. The only only thing that worries me is that Bale decided to use the same accent he uses for his Bruce Wayne character which is kind of annoying. I hope that McG does not screw this reboot of a good franchise too badly!

What the hell Alex? This looks GREAT! Dumb title but it looks and feels kind of like Transformers with a slick newer look. Bale put my fears to rest on this one and I don't mind McG too much. When Terminator 3 came out I didn't care one bit, although I went to see it in the theaters. It was rather boring. When the TV series started I didn't care even less. I haven't even seen one episode. The commercials were enough to know I'd hate it. But this just gave me chills. Maybe it was just the music, but I have a feeling this movie's going to kick ass. And I don't mean that it'll be fun to see in theaters and then forget about it. I mean kick ass like the first Terminator movie.

Cristian Bale-Arnold+Robots!!! I'm there dude! You guys obviously aren't the same people going down on Bale for Batman. Not that I'm going down on Bale for this movie. But it's Cristian Bale! I gurantee I'll end up giving it atleast a 8 out of 10. On another note, can anybody think of a movie he did that sucked? And don't say that one he did when he was a kid. (Something about a sun and Japanese Spitfires and stuff.)

Christian Bale has been a favorite of mine since American Psycho and Equilibrium. To have him suit up as Batman, then take on the role of John Connor is like crack for me. The teaser was short, but caught my attention. They're obviously keeping this under wraps pretty tight. The first full trailer should be amazing.

We all know that McG was involved in the CA films, but he also did We Are Marshall which wasn't bad. People angry because it not the original give it a chance, the originals were amazing, the third wasn't bad and the new series will be good, as long as you give it a chance.

This might be good since its really the story in the future during the battle with the machines. This is not the timeline we are all familiar with in the first 3. If you remember in the first 2 there were flash backs to battles in the future against all sorts of "machines". This is the story in that timeline. There are two quick scenes of machines and it looks pretty awesome. You may have missed it but that first one is an actual massive "arm" grabbing someone.

I like it! It's still almost a year away, relax people. Bale is such an amazing actor, really come into his own over the past few years. Think he is perfect for this type of role. That whole piece recently about "are trailers giving to much away..." Yes they do. I like the small teaser trailer that just give you a glimpse, leaving you wanting more. But I'm sure by the time next May roles around we will have half a dozen different trailers, behind the scences, clips upon clips, etc and then we won't really have that much to look forward to by the time the move roles around.

Now that was an awesome teaser! Although I admit it's very easy to get my hyped up for movies I think I'm going to like. 🙂 I really had no problem with any of the previous terminator movies, and I also liked the series. Wow, I'm a huge fan of the Terminator saga, even of T3 which was a bit underrated I think, but essencial to close the present time circle...for a teaser this was pretty awesome...ever since the news of this 4th installment coming, i've been hoping to see some sort of openfield, huge epic battle between the robot infantry and cavalry and the human armies, that would kick some serious ass!!

You think the Watchmen trailer was better than this? Really? I went from counting down the days until the Watchmen opens to actually considering waiting for the DVD after watching the horrible CGI-fest that was the Watchmen trailer. This however...wow. I think this is going to be better than T-2 (or as I like to call it "T-2: A Boy and his Robot").

Looks like crap. Why even be "hyped up" for a movie like this? "The Dark Knight", "X-Files", "Iron Man" - these are movies to draw hype around, not a failure from the get-go like T4. Especially since this is directed by McG of all people. If it wasn't for all the politics we might as well just get Uwe Boll to produce this at the same time. I like Christian Bale, but that doesn't mean the movie is going to be any better, now does it?

Hopefully, this will be like Batman Begins. everyone was like "another Batman, whatever"! Then people actually saw it and now it's sequel is the most anticipated movie if the year. Let's put it this way, if this movie IS good than Christian Bale will be the Jesus Christ of dieing movie franchises. Because Terminator is kinda like Lasserus right now. Not to mention the new Terminator guy is very much modeled like a young Arnold, hope that translates well.

This looks like Mad Max rather than Terminator. I also don't know how you would have clear bright blue skies after a Nuclear Holocaust, surely it would be a nuclear winter. This whole thing with daylight is stupid. In the first Terminator movie Kyle Reese when speaking to Sarah Connor says "You stay down by day, but in the night you can move around. You've still have to be careful cause the HK's use infra red....". I thought McG said he had studied the first three films and talked to James Cameron. Doesn't look like it. But after saying all this I really want to see a Terminator film that explores the Future War. They should end the planned trilogy with Bale sending Michael Biehn back through time.

The post-apocalyptic Terminator is the flick all of us have been anticipating since experiencing the future-sequences in T2. This is going to be stupendous!!! And i'm most def. glad they decided to produce it now (with the cgi creating visually stunning graphics with optimal results and seamless quality). And why opt to give Xtian Bale the cold shoulder? He's a magnificent actor who will do the film quite the on-screen justice. He's now a coveted action star, but hasn't pigeon-holed/limited himself in such roles, and that showcases his variety and depth as an actor. Kudos to the Bale. As for the teaser? Yeah, the point of such is to arouse the curiosity and get us wet, so to speak. The marketing execution is grand and will definitely have our appetites partially served until the big trailer arrives this fall/winter. I'm just so excited... i can eat porcupine penis!!! *sighs*

I hope the director and the producers fall on their knees and beg Arnold to come back and do the role of the terminator cause if there's no him in the movie…, then this is just another ordinary summer flick designed and produced just to fill up the theaters during the holiday season in hoping to make a couple of bucks at the box-office. Nobody will have the urge to watch it if there is no Arnold in the movie. There's no meaning in watching the movie. The 1st question they will ask is "NO ARNIE ??" and this itself will put them off from watching it..at least half of the urge.. There is no one on earth that can fit on the role of the terminator than Arnold Schwarzenegger, unless they look for somebody on the planet Mars… maybe they can :-). Nevertheless, terminator movies became famous because of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Without him in the movies, i highly doubt that anybody would have recognized these movies today including myself.. I would have recognized it as another cheapskate cyborg movie that's all!!! And fans will force them-self to watch it just because they think it's their responsibility that they need to do since they are fans of terminator trilogy… Pray to god Arnie comes back or not this movie will end up as just another rubbish/crap on the silver screen. If they can put Harrison ford back as Professor Indiana Jones and Bruce Willis as John Mclane in Die Hard 4, obviously they can do it for Terminator.. if they think Arnold is too old for that role, it's just another lame excuse for being laaaazzzzyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-0 And one more thing, Christin Bale looks like the best choice for John conner.. He has that though rough look suitable to take on the machines and also a leader…..
Steven on Jul 20, 2008
72
OK...I see alot of you talking about Arnold being in this, and the fact if he isnt that people wont watch it. You all have to realize that this one is set when the war starts. So it may not have him...Only because even in the S C C...it shows that Reese didnt go to the past for quite some time after the war started. So they would only need to show Arnold as a cameo to show WHY they used him in the first place as the ectoskelton of the cyborg. Other than that..this movie is based on the begining of the war up to when Reese and the T-100 gets sent back in the first place. All we can really do is wait for the bigger trailor and see what happens, or wait for the movie itself.
