Back in December we wrote about Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess' next film - a comedy called Gentlemen Broncos. The concept sounds great and it's something I'm already looking forward to despite it hasn't even started filming. At that time a cast had not been announced, but today that changes. Michael Angarano (above, left), Sam Rockwell (above, right) and Jemaine Clement (above, center) have all joined the cast as the primary three characters in Gentlemen Broncos. Sounds like a very solid cast for the upcoming comedy. Sam Rockwell was sporting a gnarly beard at Sundance just last week (see the photo above), which makes me wonder whether he's growing it for fun, or possibly for this.
Michael Angarano is a 20-year-old up-and-coming actor who made quite an impact in Snow Angels (from Sundance 2007) and also stars in the upcoming martial arts epic The Forbidden Kingdom. Sam Rockwell is a very well-known actor who has only been improving with time. His past roles include Zaphod Beeblebrox in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Charley Ford in Assassination of Jesse James, and most recently, Victor Mancini in Choke. Jemaine Clement is one of the creators of the new cult New Zealand TV show "Flight of the Conchords" and also starred in Eagle vs Shark.
Gentlemen Broncos "follows a high school outcast who's an aspiring fantasy author. He attends a fantasy convention to show off his work and finds his supposed masterpiece - 'Yeast Lords' - ripped off by legendary novelist Ronald Chevalier, who has turned desperate for ideas." The film's script was written by Jared Hess and his wife Jerusha, the same two who wrote both Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. Production is set to start in March.
Michael Angarano will play the teenaged aspiring fantasy author, Jemaine Clement will play novelist Ronald Chevalier, and Sam Rockwell will play the fictional story's title character who appears in book-come-to-life sequences under two guises: one in the teen's story and one in the author's story. I don't think I could have imagined a better cast than that to fill the shoes of these characters from Jared Hess' mind. This will definitely be a movie to keep your eye on in the next year.

Ha, glad to see Jermaine in this. I just finished watching the first season of Flight of the Conchords and it's hilarious.
