Rumor: Hawkeye and Black Widow Will Be in Iron Man 2?!
That's it! If this rumor turns out to be completely true, then I'm proclaiming that The Avengers is probably going to be the most epic comic book movie in modern history. Our good friends at Latino Review have picked up two very interesting scoops related to Iron Man 2 tonight. First, they say that Tim Robbins has been cast in the role of Howard Stark, Tony's father, for a very important flashback scene that will setup The Avengers movie. Second, they add that apparently both Hawkeye and Black Widow will appear in the film - but not as cameos. Obviously the execs are Marvel are already planning for one hell of an Avengers movie, because now it seems both Hawkeye and Black Widow will eventually join the team as well.
The reason why this news is so exciting for Marvel fans is that ever since this Avengers movie was first announced, everyone has been speculating that the actual team we'd see wouldn't consist of more than just the basic superheroes - Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and potentially Hulk, Ant-Man, or a few others. But now that we know Hawkeye and Black Widow are going to appear in Iron Man 2, this means we might get to see a full fledged Avengers team that consists of more than just four members. While I usually trust Latino Review's scoops, especially from El Mayimbe, we need some actual confirmation on this before we pop open a bottle of champagne. Either way, there's one hell of an exciting Marvel future ahead!

also since they both dont have super powers it wont effect IM realism

Yeah Nelson until the point where IM's realism goes down the drain when he joins a shrinking green super serum northern god crew... This is going to happen and I'm only expecting fun out of it! If this is indeed true, then it is good news!

The only thing with having more than 4 Avengers in one movie is screen time. We all know what happened with JC Van Dammes version...Too many characters, not enough screen time for each. It was a cluster fuck of fighters with some more screen time than others. I would like to see how Marvel pulls this one off. If not at least a 2 1/2 hour movie I would say 2 movies in the summer one month after the first. We'll just have to wait and see.

The difference between this and the abysmal (or sublime, I'm not sure. It's a brilliant bad movie) Street Fighter is that the characters will already have their own films setting the characters up. We won't need each character to be introduced and given a tale to tell. They can just get on with story of the group coming together and fighting a big bad.

Well I'm jacked, Iowan's represent. Getting our only superhero on the big screen, Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, is the man. This is going to be awesome.

kick-ass if true, but it's real early...and there were similar rumours for IM1 weren't there? i seem to remember hillary swank's name being thrown around.

why isnt the original line up a "full fledged avengers" team? The original 5 (not four that you mention) with the early addition of cap saved the world and stomped enough villain tail to be called a "full "fledged" team if you ask me...

starting to sound more and more like the "Ultimates" as opposed to the Avengers, not that it's a bad thing.

Wow this movie just gets better and better!! I hope they make Hawkeye and Widow badass SHIELD super agents!!
Daas on Dec 18, 2008
They are going to base The Avengers off The ultimates, introducing these characters in Iron Man 2 sounds like a very smart thing to do.

"I would like to see how Marvel pulls this one off. If not at least a 2 1/2 hour movie I would say 2 movies in the summer one month after the first. We'll just have to wait and see." It would be one astronimical feat, but one HELL OF A FUKKIN' IDEA!!! I love your thinking, man. Brilliant concept for a double feature, same-season release. It will surely kick any hobo-homo hobbit or broomsticking riding chode in the ass. IMO, i believe the support and afficionados that Marvel has trumps any other sci-fi realm. If they make it, not only will we watch, but we will view in BILLIONS OF DROVES!!! Iron Man 2 = 150 mil first weekend, quote me on that come release weekend. YAH!!! Marvel > DC. *in Bruce Buffer voice* "LET'S GET IT ONNNNN!" 😛

I am cool with adding in these characters as long as IM2 and Avengers doesn't end up like the cluster-f that X-men 3 was. I think one of the big flaws (of the many) of that film was there were just way too many characters and not enough time to establish and expand on them all. If anything I think these will be smaller, more cameo type roles, instead of getting major screen time. I'll be interested to hear how big a role these characters are actually going to be.

i think it sounds like an awesome idea! introduce all the avengers without having to wait for a ton of movies to come out for each character and not that they're not worthy of it but if we were to go that route then the avengers would be a 2020 release or later just so long as they aren't all clamoring for too much screen time, it is an iron man flick after all! and i like the more than cameo roles because it will hopefully give a little more background on each

Sounds cool. I just hope they don't switch actors again (i.e. Rhodes / WM) from one film to the next. I'm looking forward to it either way and I think it will be good overall so see the various characters in live action.

I believe Alex is not an Avengers fan.

I agree with 15. I cant understand why first we are subjected to a liefeld cap, and now a Land widow =[

Nothing, shes an interesting Character and will fit the film perfectly as she doesn't take anything off Ironman, same with Hawkeye, both make excellent supporting characters. concerning post 12 - this is why they are going down this route, X-men would have worked much better had they gone this way, hopefully if X-men Origins does well they might look into it, but I sadly doubt it. But aye for a superhero team film, this is 100% the best way to do it.

Alex - #16 is criticizing artist Greg Land's take on the Widow. 9mm - Why are you hating on Land and Liefeld anyway? Both fine artists. In any case this sounds awesome, but I really hope Black Widow and Hawkeye don't join the Avengers in the first movie. They need to do the original team.

I can't say that I agree with 13. What would be wrong with a 2020 release, as long as they have more marvel movies in between to tide us over. Not saying that introducing multiple chars per film is a terrible idea. It's just more risky. Walking a fine line between not enough char development, leading to non-comic readers to fail to know much, or care much about them. Or taking so much screen time for char development, that we get short changed on the action. Further if they take that long to build up to an Avengers movie, special effects tech should progress a lot by then. Giving them much better tools to make such a large movie truly ground breaking Either way I think Marvel will likely do a bang up job of it. Only installment that didn't do so hot was a Hulk movie.
