TRAILERS
The Coen Brother's Burn After Reading International Teaser
by Alex Billington
June 19, 2008
The Coen Brothers have done it again - they've already made one of this year's best films. I thought the red band trailer for Burn After Reading was the best we would get for their next film, but I was wrong. MSN has debuted the first international teaser trailer and despite it's half the length, it's just as good. Everything for this film has been perfect so far: the first two trailers, including this one, are fantastic, and the poster is wonderful. I don't know how anyone could say this movie looks bad after seeing this teaser and I don't expect it to do anything but surpass my expectations, considering it is the Coen Brothers. The entire cast looks phenomenal, too, from Brad Pitt to Tilda Swinton to John Malkovich to J.K. Simmons. If you're a Coen Brothers fan at all, you definitely need to watch this new international teaser.
Watch the international teaser for Burn After Reading:
Burn After Reading is both written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, the directing duo behind Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and most recently the Oscar winning No Country for Old Men. After debuting at the Venice International Film Festival, Focus Features will be releasing the film domestically in the US. Burn After Reading arrives in theaters on September 12th.

I'm afriad it won't live up to the hype, but I'm still looking forward to it.

Yeah AB, it didnt really do it for me. Looks intresting but i think it wont have the suspense that were all hoping for. Just really witty murders.

I love how people can think they can judge a whole film by a minute or sow of compiled footage.

Sorry, but that trailer looked f*cking dumb. The cast is exciting but I don't see much of a storyline - if any - to lure me in. Did like the song though..heh..

In response to #4: The point of a trailer is to market a movie. If it doesn't create some sort of excitement or interest its either an accurate representation of the movie (meaning it has nothing interesting to offer) or the editors who create the trailors suck at their job. I'm guessing more often its that the movie has nothing new to offer. How else are you supposed to judge if you want to spend $10 + dollars on a trip to the theatre?? duh...

Better than No Country For Old Men? I think that was one of the best movies I've seen in recent history. I'm a big Coen Brothers fan (aside from Ladykillers) and I think this film looks great. It's definitely in the top five on my highly anticipated list.

I much prefer the other trailer, which sells the film on its story rather than its cast. I also hate that editing trick where spoken lines get dug up that seem to "respond" to what the trailer is saying. For example: Title: A film by the Coen Brothers. Character: "That's fantastic!" It's so gut-wrenchingly cheesy.
