Tyrese and Bruce Willis Might Join the A-Team

Making me just a tad bit happy given my recent rankings of the top rappers turned movie actors today, MovieWeb tells us that it seems Tyrese is now the lead contender to play fool-pityin' B.A. "Bad Attitude" Baracus in the upcoming A-Team movie instead of the previously considered Ice Cube. Not only that, Latino Review recently reported that Bruce Willis might lead the soldiers of fortune as alpha dog Col. John "Hannibal" Smith. This is one remake that's starting to look pretty good.

I must admit, though, Ice Cube had a bit more fitting weight and gruff to play Mr. T than Tyrese. Nevertheless, Tyrese has long been a staple of John Singleton's films (Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers) and I do very much enjoy him in a supporting role such as this. Nothing has been signed as of yet, as Tyrese noted that the script is still in development, but this sounds pretty solid.

Similarly, the role of cigar-chompin' Col. Smith hasn't officially been filled either, but it's pretty easy to see Bruce Willis in the role. Granted, Willis might lack some of the sophistication of George Peppard's original character, but I think he can deliver with ease the trademark line, "I love it when a plan comes together."

As of this moment, John Singleton is still attached to direct the A-Team revamp, with a script in the works by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt (who both co-wrote 2 Fast 2 Furious, 3:10 to Yuma, and Wanted). Fox has already scheduled this for release on June 12th, 2009. Let's just hope they can get the film back on track and in production quick enough to make that release date!

No word yet on the remaining two roles that round out the foursome: Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck and Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock. Peck is a slick con-man, so Sam Rockwell immediately comes to mind as a possible candidate. And Murdock is sort of nuts, so maybe Steve Buscemi? What do you think?

OK, making this movie isnt' a good idea to begin with, but what the hell... can they not afford to get Mr. T to reprise his role? I mean, yeah he's probably kinda old now, but you know if anyone else tries to cop Mr. T's 'attitude' or fool-pitying style, it will just come off as hopelessly lame. Mr. T is the only dude who can do Mr. T. Unless they are taking that series far away from it's TV roots, I just don't see working. Besides... I love Mr. T. He pities me.

So long as Hannibal's chompin' on cigars, B.A.'s wearing denim suspenders w/ striped socks & Chuck Taylor hi-tops, and they keep the Ultimate Theme Song (especially when they build random improvised militaristic devices out of spare parts, over that iconic drum-roll); I'm in. Anything short of this, would be slightly more than cheesy. (I think Ice Cube would've been cheesy, b/c he's softened up too much since he's been Hollywood'd out.)

Who are the gettin' to play Murdock, dammit! I never cared about the other characters. But Murdock is funnier than hell..they need to get him right or else this is gonna be shit. Wonder what / who he thinks he is in the film. Can't wait.

I don't know, I think Rockwell would be wrong for Faceman, he needs to have more charisma, be more of a sly smiling pretty boy to play the part. And someone who can be a little less glum and a little more silly for Murdock would be better than Buscemi, maybe Jim Carrey or Woody Harrelson? That's my opinion, off the top of my head. I just hope Murdock has his invisible dog, and drives B.A. nuts with it. And maybe they'll have to knock out B.A. so they can get him on a plane.

I think Greg Kinnear for Faceman and Matthew Lillard for Murdoch would be perfect.

Why don't they just make one big 80's movie that has all the greats like GI Joe, and the A-Team in it, so they can ruin everything at once. This is lining up to be worse than the GI Joe film.

Tyrese as B.A.? Hell, why not Billy Blanks? Or Dennis Rodman? This is gonna be one crazy remake... 🙂

michael jai white for BA

Keep Bruce, but Tyreese as BA is not a good choice. I'd Honestly rather see Vin Diesel. He's got the gruff & buff, and doesn't need the Mohawk to pull off a modern BA. The dude who plays Sawyer or Ed Norton as Faceman, with Adam Corolla(?) as Murdock . I can't see anyone but Jim Carrey ($20 mil+) for that role.

Colin farrel's emaciated right now and looks like he's got aids, Ving Rhames is like 50 and almost as old as mr t, and Sandler's 25 Mil a movie. I bet this was the same jackass who thought heath ledger was mis cast as the joker. Laime choices. This movie looks like an abortion.

Ice Cube is as horrible an actor as he is a cRapper.
