Universal Pulls Fast and Furious From Their Summer Line-Up!
by Alex Billington
December 9, 2008
Universal Pictures has pulled Fast & Furious from its original June 12th release date and moved it to April 3rd, making it a forgettable pre-summer release instead of the big summer event movie that originally it seemed it might be. I guess it won't be the big reboot of the Fast and the Furious franchise that everyone was hoping it would be from that first trailer? Universal also pushed back the release of their creature feature The Wolf Man from April 3rd all the way to November 6th, as was rumored a few weeks back. Seems like Universal is having some trouble figuring out what to do with their movies.
With this release date shift, Universal now only has 3 confirmed summer movies in their line-up: Drag Me to Hell on May 29th, Land of the Lost on June 5th, Public Enemies on July 1st, and potentially Bruno, if they decide to release it in the summer. No reasons were given for the switch, except a measly claim that it "was the sensible thing to do." I don't think if the reaction to this release date change will be too severe, considering most fans of the Fast and the Furious franchise will probably be excited to see it earlier. Although, to me, this does not seem like a confident move on their part. Only time will tell!

so, when iron man is released in may it means the summer starts early, but when the fast and the furious is released in april, it means the studio is not confident? funny. but also true...

Obviously this is the best possible move... The movie doesn't even look very good and now they get to put it up against Dragonball and probably eek out more money than they would have in the middle of the summer... But obviously they aren't confident in its ability or they would have kept it in the summer. This always happens year after year and these movies that seem to be good open in April and are horrible.

I agree, I think this might be a sign that the movie isn't that great if they moved it to the April dumping grounds. March would have been a little bit better considering that March movies generally have a better shot at making a lot of money i.e. 300.

Meh. I'll watch it regardless. I usually like my movies with a little brain, but Fast and the Furious is my little guilty pleasure.

maybe they're trying to experiment with a tentpole in the spring since wanted didn't get to make it this year. i'll still see it... especially now that it's coming out earlier.

Universal Pictures has also moved Ridley Scott's "Nottingham" from November 6th back to 2010-TBA. I'm not to sure about this November 6th release date for "The Wolf Man". The weekend after Halloween seems to be a horrible time to release a Horror film. And it won't even be the only Horror film releasing that day; Richard Kelly's "The Box" is also slated to be released on 11/06/09.(Along with two Big-Budget Animated films).

"making it a forgettable pre-summer release instead of the big summer event movie that originally it seemed it might be....you have GOT to be kidding....Fast & Furious, a major event movie...well maybe, with the pre-teen crowd...but seriously, is this the stuff of "event movies"???? pathetic to even consider....
